The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 213
Chapter 213: Chapter 213
"I don’t feel sorry for you with everything my father put you through. You are just as bad as him. No, you are worse. You pretend to be innocent but you are the devil. My father never pretended," Beth stated, remembering her late father who never changed his personality no matter who stood before him.
"Your husband had an affair with your maid and I came from it. You have punished me for years when I did nothing wrong. Do you think I like the circumstances I was created from? Maybe you punished me because you could not punish my mother," said Beth as her father protected her mother until she passed away from a cold.
Margaret wasn’t interested in what Beth was saying. She made it quite clear over the years why she never cared for Beth. Beth wasn’t her child. Margaret never went out of her way to punish Beth. If she truly wanted to punish Beth in place of her mother, Margaret had worse things she could have done instead of just picking a random husband.
"I am not going to let you walk all over me again. I did everything you wanted because I wanted some of the love you gave to Richard. You were the only mother figure around after my mother died in my youth. I stayed out of a castle I had a right to be in to please you. Not anymore," Beth made up her mind. She would repay Margaret for all the things she put her through during her youth.
"Is that so? Then try your best Beth or just remain as you were before. Before you try coming after me, you should stop and think if it is something you want to do but I look forward to seeing you try to punish me," Margaret replied, somewhat excited to see Beth fail.
Only the devil himself could ruin Margaret but her family had experience dealing with demons. Still, watching Beth would be amusing. It would be like a small child trying to move a mountain. Until Margaret was ready to dispose of Fraser, Beth struggling to punish her would help her pass time.
"I hope you have been plotting well when you were out of the castle. It would be a bit embarrassing if you were going to use Fraser to get at me. That boy can do nothing for you, Beth. Don’t get him involved in your plans or you will find yourself crying at his tomb. Speaking of Fraser, shouldn’t you be watching over him to make sure he is paying attention to his lessons? You know he needs the knowledge," Margaret sighed.
Margaret was tired of hearing how Fraser could not grasp simple things.
Margaret plucked another flower from the garden. "I am truly disappointed in you, Beth. Not because you have chosen to speak up but the fact you spoke up before you made a move."
"Who said I have not made a move? I sent quite a lengthy message to Amelia this morning before I came here to speak with you," Beth said, her lips curling when Margaret looked up at her. "She’s been asking for information about her mother since Anne died so I thought it was only fair I finally gave her what she wanted. I know you are not an easy opponent but I know your weakness."
Beth used to be jealous of the relationship Amelia and Margaret had but now that relationship would be her way to toy with Margaret. The one person Margaret would not want to show what she was truly like was Amelia. Amelia was the only person Margaret cared for. If Amelia turned her back on Margaret, Beth had a chance. She only needed to plot well to make it seem like Margaret was the person who killed Anne.
"You," Margaret said with an expression Beth could not read. "Come out."
Beth was confused by what Margaret meant and looked around to see who else was there. She took a step back when a man she had seen before stepped out of the garden. Margaret had called out her guard.
"I should honestly just kill you right now," Margaret added, seriously considering doing it. "No one would care or remember you. You do hold the title of the forgotten princess. Not even your son remembers that you are royalty. I am going to be kind and give you a chance. If you are not bluffing and sent a letter, I advise you to do all that you can to stop it from reaching the north."
"I don’t have to-"
"My guards are all over the castle, Beth. You and your son have yet to control the Blackwell army and you never will. It is so easy for them to slip inside your or Fraser’s room to kill you in the middle of the night. Your son is already afraid of dying in the middle of the night like Richard. Do you want to see him lose his mind? You should know how easy it is to become paranoid in the castle. So," Margaret approached Beth and placed the yellow flower in her hands. "Think carefully."
Beth despised the warm smile Margaret showed while she was threatening her. Margaret continued to underestimate the allies Beth gained over the years. She was not picking a fight with Margaret without having the resources to protect herself and Fraser. A letter would eventually go out to Amelia no matter how much Margaret would threaten Beth.
Beth knew that despite the fact Margaret wanted her to be the one to stop the letter, Margaret would be in a panic to search for a letter that Beth never sent out in the first place. Beth wanted to see Margaret frantically search for something that did not exist. It was Margaret who would end up paranoid, not Fraser.
Instead of trembling as Margaret wanted her to, Beth laughed and squashed the flower in her hands. She meant every word of not being the quiet princess who sat back and let Margaret ruin her life. Margaret would not torture Fraser as she did with Beth.
"You should be treating me nice instead of plotting on my life, Lady Margaret," Beth said in a taunting tone. "You should fear how much I’ve known about you and Anne. I’ve already spread around to a few people that you were one of two people who visited Anne’s tower the night before she died. Don’t think of plotting to kill me off in the middle of the night. The moment I am killed, a good friend of mine will spread this little detail around the town and castle."
"The people of this kingdom will be confused but it will certainly catch Amelia’s attention. Wouldn’t it? I like seeing you angry. It is as satisfying as I thought," Beth chuckled.
Margaret didn’t respond to Beth. If she did, her hands would make their way around Beth’s throat and wouldn’t let go until Beth could no longer breathe. The one thing that annoyed her was the fact Beth might truly know something. Beth was always roaming the castle silently, listening to all the conversations from the maids or anyone else present. It was easy for Beth to slip by when no one cared about her presence.
Margaret stayed out of the castle after her reign as Queen but it did not mean she wasn’t aware of the dirty secrets of those connected to the castle. "You are your father’s child with your cheating ways. Is your husband aware of your old lover? Should he be referred to as an old lover?"
"No, he isn’t aware. Go ahead and tell him. I’ve been looking for something to get me out of this marriage you put me in. Then I would have nothing to do with the Adams family since Fraser is changing his name to Blackwell. Did you think that would work? You’re losing your touch," Beth continued to laugh as she spoke.
Beth couldn’t hold her laughter, not that she was trying hard to. Just a moment ago Margaret called out her guard to intimidate her. As a last resort to keep threatening Beth, Margaret was bringing up an old affair that Beth did not care about.
Beth would enjoy if Margaret was her way out of her marriage. She liked her husband but the marriage was boring. Knowing that Margaret was the one to set up the marriage, Beth did not want to remain in her marriage any longer.
"Why are you silent? Won’t you go ahead and tell him for me so everyone can call me a horrible wife? I will just say it runs in the family. Like how my father never loved you and fucked the maid who was beneath you. Like how my pathetic brother brought in women to try to make Anne jealous. I wouldn’t bother to mention your affairs," Beth said.
Margaret was in the same position as her where she didn’t care if her affairs were known. The kingdom loved Anne so framing Margaret as her killer would do more damage.
