The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 169

Chapter 169: Chapter 169

"What are you looking for in the people who have come today?" Killian asked as he needed to know the qualities Amelia was looking for. For him, he was inspecting them for threats. It wasn’t hard for him to pick up on who would be trying to get close to her to harm her.

"People who will be loyal to me in the future. Since you will be able to tell if they are lying about something, please tap on my leg to warn me. I don’t want anyone by my side that I have to look out for from the very beginning. I want at least three maids to help Gina and two more guards. I don’t mind if we find more than that," said Amelia.

She needed many more eyes in the castle to watch out for people like Agramon.

"I don’t mind if we find more than three maids and two guards. The more the merrier. If you could make it happen before our wedding tomorrow, please get me two spells from a witch to block anyone from hearing what I say. Or maybe, you can just take me with you. I want to see what a witch looks like," Amelia said, curious about the creature they were told to avoid.

"After our wedding, I will take you to see one that lives near. You shouldn’t see one before your wedding day. Most witches cannot be trusted and they love placing spells on others for fun. They’ll love to turn a bride into a frog. It has happened many times," Killian stated. It was a pain in the ass when he had to fly to where the witch was and get her to change back his people to their normal form.

"I don’t want to be turned into a frog," Amelia muttered, shuddering as she imagined herself turning into the slimy creature she would run away from in the castle garden. "Maybe you should go alone. I had some questions about the stories my mother left behind. I will let you ask. We can begin now," she ordered the guard standing by the door.

He hustled to open the door and let the first ten people in. They spread out, lining up themselves for the king and future queen to see them clearly.

Before Amelia could speak, Killian pointed at seven of the people before them who were then told by the guard to leave.

"What was wrong with them?" Amelia asked as she didn’t see what Killian did.

"You don’t need those types of demons around you. I can feel their aura and it is not pleasant. One of them I have seen roaming around where Agramon resides. This is the best three," he said, pointing at the three left over.

Amelia inspected the group and found a familiar face. There was the woman Edith who made the claim of being the best fighter in her village. Since Killian had not sent her away and she saw Edith before, Amelia took this as a sign but Edith wasn’t chosen yet. There was still the man and the woman beside her.

"You will only get one chance to prove why I should pick you. What makes you stand out from the person standing beside you and the others who have come to the castle? It doesn’t matter who goes first. Start now," she motioned with her words and hands for them to make their point.

The man was the first to speak up, stepping forward in Killian’s direction. "I have pledged loyalty to you from the moment I came to this world. I am an excellent fighter, surviving in the most dangerous parts of the underworld for years. I once worked for the demos Greed before deciding that I wanted to come to the world above-"

"That is not impressive, king Killian. We have all worked for the seven demons at one point. I was a hunter in the underworld, taking care of the problems with hellhounds and terror birds. My aim is unlike any other demon you will meet today. I am also good at gathering souls who have escaped their punishments in the underworld. They are tasty," the woman licked her lips.

While the two tried to impress Killian, Amelia looked at Edith who stared back at her with a smile. Amelia was curious as Edith was silent until finally reached for a small dagger resting on her hip.

With quick movement and good aim, Edith attacked her two competitors hitting them in the back of their heads with the end of her dagger. Edith continued to smile when their unconscious bodies fell to the floor with a loud thug.

"I’ve had years of practice to know where to knock out others with one hit. I can protect you, princess," Edith declared, looking directly at Amelia. Her goal in the past was to one day work for Killian but Amelia’s visit changed her plans. Edith wanted to be next to the woman who would shake up the north. It wasn’t every day he came across a woman in a powerful seat who she could tolerate. "I am here for you."

Amelia looked at the two silent people laying on the floor. She did dislike that they went straight to trying to impress Killian when she was the one to invite them to the castle. She didn’t need followers who were using her as a stepping stone to get to Killian.

"Did you really need to knock them out?" Amelia asked though she was entertained by what Edith did.

"I needed to show my talent to prove that I should be picked. I hope that it was convincing enough for you, princess. And King Killian," Edith addressed Killian since he still needed to be acknowledged in the room.

"It was. Perhaps when you were the first person to speak up in your village, you had already convinced me. I hope you are ready to pack your things and move to the castle," Amelia said, picking Edith as her first person.

"They are here already. I didn’t doubt I would be picked," Edith grinned, showing a lot of the confidence she had in herself.
