The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 170
Chapter 170: Chapter 170
"What is this crap? You mean to embarrass me don’t you?" Fraser yelled at his third tailor. No one could get the idea in his head created to his liking. They all presented him with an outfit similar to the ones past kings had when they were crowned king. He wanted to be different. He wanted to stand out. "Get out of my sight. How am I supposed to get my portrait done wearing this filth?" He asked, tossing the waste of material onto the floor.
"P-please allow me to fix it," the tailor said, getting down on his knees to apologize and pick up what he worked hard on.
"Fix it? You should be happy I don’t have your head for wasting my time. Leave before I throw you in the dungeon," said Fraser.
Beth watched from the shadows as her son failed before he was crowned king. She waited until the tailor left before making her presence known. "Fraser, how many times must I tell you to control that temper? You are not making me proud when you act this way," she said.
Fraser calmed his anger in the presence of his mother. "I cannot help it, mother. I have given clear instructions for what I want on the day I am crowned king but no one is doing their job right. I want the tailor we use at home to become the royal tailor. I should have done this from the start," he said.
"Son," Beth placed a hand on his right shoulder to calm him. "You need to stop taking your anger out on everyone. You have been doing this for two days now. The people you yell and fire will talk. The kingdom will turn against you if they think you are not a good king. Do not ruin your time as king before it even starts. Tell me, what is really bothering you?’
"Are you going to Amelia’s wedding, mother? It is all I hear everyone talking about in the castle when I should be their focus. I am going to be their future king. I never viewed Amelia as a competition but it seems I was wrong not to. She’s taking away my moment and as of right now, I have no plans to attend her wedding," said Fraser.
"Fraser, it is because of Killian Bune that you have what you always dreamed of. You cannot stay behind while everyone attends the wedding tomorrow. It will be a bad look. Suck up what you are feeling and get through with the wedding. It will be over before you know it," Beth reassured him. It wasn’t like she wanted to be there.
Beth harbored a bit of jealousy towards Amelia because while she was forced to marry out of the castle, Amelia was marrying a king. It was something Beth always dreamed of as a princess but never got. She was living her dreams of sitting on a throne through Fraser. Beth understood Fraser’s current jealousy toward Amelia but he mustn’t forget what they have now.
"I do not want to sit and watch her become queen of the north. Why couldn’t we have sent her off to marry a prince who would never see a throne? I don’t like how easy it was for her to get what she wanted," Fraser angrily spoke through gritted teeth.
"It wasn’t easy for her to reach this point," Beth said. She disliked Amelia at times but as a former princess, she knew this wasn’t an easy path for Amelia. "She wasn’t supported like you were because you are a man."
Fraser didn’t like how it seemed like his mother was defending Amelia. "Not you too," he muttered, stepping away with his mother. "You are my mother. Be on my side."
"I am always on your side but I was also a princess once. I still am even though everyone likes to forget. I know how hard it was for Amelia to survive in the castle. I faced her battles before. Worst battles because I am an illegitimate child. I love you but nothing upsets me more than hearing a princess had it easy," said Beth.
It was the one thing she shared in common with Amelia that Fraser would never understand. As an aunt, Beth held some sort of happiness for Amelia achieving something more even if she was jealous and wished it had been her.
"You are going to that wedding, Fraser. I don’t care how you feel about the north or your cousin. You are meant to be there. It is time I spend more time in the castle to make sure you are not doing something stupid. I’ve started to bring my things here to my old room. Your father might join us too," Beth gave Fraser the good news.
"About time. The three of us should have been living in the castle from the very beginning. I will make sure you never have to leave again, mother. Grandmother will not control your life anymore. In fact, I decided to sever all ties with her. She’s not my grandmother in my eyes. She only cares for Amelia," said Fraser.
’Amelia is her only grandchild,’ Beth thought. Fraser did not share any blood with Margaret. Only Amelia did. She never meant for her son to call Margaret grandmother but Fraser got used to it. It was odd since she never called Margaret her mother even as a child when she did not know about her real mother.
"I heard that Leonard is planning to leave the castle. You must go and make him-"
"What the hell is so special about him?" Fraser yelled.
"Do not raise your voice at me, Fraser. You are proving everyone who doubted you right. The crown is not yet on your head but you are making a bad name for yourself already. I don’t want you to be like my brother. Contrary to what you thought, he wasn’t a good king. Be better than him," Beth advised her son.
Beth wanted Fraser to be remembered as the king who saved this kingdom. The Blackwell men were nothing but disgusting bastards from what she witnessed. Fraser needed to be better than everyone.
"Perhaps it is my fault for not raising you better. I should have prepared you better for when this moment would come. I am not going to let you out of my sight. These silly arguments you have with the servants will stop now. Do not think I am against you son," Beth said, smoothing out his messy hair with her hand. "I have to be tough on you because I want you to succeed."
"I know mother," Fraser answered in a softer tone.
No one, besides his mother, believed he would make it this far. She pushed to have him meet with the former king and introduced him to the court men who would back him. His father wanted the two of them to give up but their hard work paid off.
If there was one thing Fraser loved more than being king, it was his mother. Hearing how she was quickly married out of the castle angered him. He knew there had to be some order that she could not visit regularly because she would give him the same expression of sadness each time he begged her to come along with him. He knew Margaret had something to do with it.
"Have you heard anything about Annabelle’s child? You know you mustn’t let it live. That child will have Blackwell blood and there will be people who want to support it instead of you. Your grandfather has the plan to get rid of it. Let him do the job and should he fail, he will take all the blame," said Beth.
Beth wasn’t fond of her father-in-law from the very first day she met him. He was too controlling and tried to use her position as a princess to get things he wanted without asking her. Now, he was planning to use Fraser to elevate his position.
Cedric hardly cared for Fraser in the past but now that Fraser was about to be king, Cedric wanted to act like a grandfather all of a sudden. Beth had no plans of letting that happen. Cedric and everyone else greatly underestimates her. She was not as useless as they thought.
Beth secretly plotted many things when it came to pushing her son further to be the king. It was often forgotten that she once lived in the castle and knew how the games here were played. She remained silent and obedient but now it was time for her to start showing her true side.
"Don’t avoid your grandfather from this point on, Fraser. We are going to use him as much as we can. It shall appear like he is pulling our strings until the very last moment. Come with me. You must apologize to the tailor before he starts talking," Beth said, walking off in the direction the tailor left.
Fraser had one concern about his mother’s plans. "What about father? He won’t like it if we use and get grandfather in trouble."
"Don’t worry about him," Beth replied. She was ready to cut ties with her husband and end the marriage she never wanted. The entire Adams family could perish for all she cared. Having her son on the throne and her standing behind him was all she wanted.
