Chapter 152

Chapter 152: Chapter 152

"Princess, your dress," Gina said, panicking at the sight of the mud on the bottom of Amelia’s dress. She wasn’t made aware they would be going through the mud to get to someplace that was on fire or she would have picked a totally different dress. One she would toss out after this trip.

Amelia looked down at her dress and her shoes which were the worst. The road to reach the other village was wet and with the mud being soft, they could not use the carriage to get there and since no one offered to fly, Amelia was walking behind Alastor.

Nothing would stop her from seeing what was wrong with the village. Not even the cold water filling her shoes when she pressed in the mud with each step would make her turn back.

’I really liked these shoes,’ Amelia sulked. Once again she was in need of a proper heads-up for her to bring different shoes. ’I didn’t think I would be traveling through the mud to get to villages. Did Killian forget that I cannot fly? I swear if he did this because he thinks it is amusing I am going to kill him.’

Cyrus walked right behind Amelia, not bothered by the mud as he was once used to it. The only people having a bad time at the moment were Amelia and Gina. He would love to fly her to the village but his wings weren’t strong enough to carry two people. His were smaller compared to Killian’s and just strong enough to lift him around.

It was amusing to see Amelia push through the mud, determined to reach the village and bring peace to it. Anyone who didn’t know how stubborn Amelia could be would certainly be surprised by her not turning back. Once she put her mind to completing something, she would finish it. It was a trait he both admired and disliked about her. He disliked when the determination would lead her to trouble and he could not talk her out of it.

Alastor looked over his shoulder, highly amused at the sight of Gina walking through the mud like it was on fire. She was taking big steps and cried each time her foot went down into a deep puddle. He was hoping she would take the wrong step and fall flat on her face. The perfect revenge for her annoying him.

Gina used her hands to pull her leg out of the deep mud she had lodged herself into. She was in the north to help Amelia achieve her goal of becoming queen but nowhere in those plans did it say she needed to be going through mud. ’Why is the mud even like this? I don’t recall any rain yesterday. This entire mountain is hell,’ she thought.

"Ah ha!" Gina celebrated pulling her foot out. She looked up to see how much further they needed to go but was surprised to see that Alastor was looking in her direction.

Gina narrowed her eyes when he looked away. She looked behind her to see if there was something behind her that was amusing hence his smile but there were only the two guards who were just walking. ’Is he crazy?’ She thought at first but then realized he must have found it funny to see her struggling to get through the mud. If they were not all adults here she would have scooped up some mud and tossed it at the back of his head.

"Finally," Amelia sighed in relief when they made it to a rocky pathway. "I take it that since all four of you weren’t surprised by the mud it is normally like this. The path needs to be covered with rocks so wherever the water is coming from to make the path soggy does not hinder anyone from getting to and leaving this village."

"There have been no complaints about the path. Others just wear better shoes when they are coming this way," said Alastor.

"Just because you have not heard any complaints does not mean everyone is happy about it. Back home, people were scared to send concerns to the court ministers for fear those men would be upset and they were. They didn’t like when our people asked about something new. They are faced with a new predicament to make their lives difficult if they speak up. The road needs to be fixed," Amelia said in a demanding tone.

She didn’t care if most of the people here would fly their way out. The road would be fixed even if she had to use her own funds. "It seems because there is conflict in this village no one has cared to fix the issues around it. No matter what trouble they cause, they are deserving of a good road. I need to have a good talk with my dear future husband."

Amelia needed an out-of-this-world explanation from Killian for why the road was like that.

"No one frequents this village. We might be their first few visitors in a long time. No one wants their chaos added to their life-"

"It does not matter," Amelia interrupted Alastor. "They still need a good road and if this feud has been going on for a while, why are you taking so long to fix it? You are demons but it does not mean you have to ignore chaos and destruction because you are used to it. In this world, you should act civil. If it is hard to do, go back to the underworld."

Amelia was not going to let the behavior they would normally engage in the underworld continue to be the norm here. There were better ways to spend your days instead of fighting and setting things on fire. She would bet one of her fingers that the people in this village were fighting over something stupid but due to the fact Killian or anyone else with power had not stepped in, it was continuing for this long.

Once again, the moment Amelia stepped foot in the village, all eyes went straight to her.
