The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 150

Chapter 150: Chapter 150

Fraser looked down at the sword on the floor unimpressed by Leonard being dramatic with his attempt to quit. It wasn’t like he was begging Leonard to stay here but Fraser didn’t like this big move Leonard was trying to pull. "That was funny. Now pick up your sword and make yourself useful by figuring out ways to stop those savages from entering our land so easily. Well, my land," Fraser grinned as this all belonged to him now.

"I am no longer offering my services to this castle. I will not make the mistake of following another fool who will lead this kingdom into the ground," said Leonard.

Like many others, he would save the people on his terms, going against the crown where he saw fit. It meant eventually becoming wanted by the castle where his days would be numbered but Leonard would not regret it. He swore to protect the people and right now, he had to protect them from Fraser.

Leonard left his sword just as it had fallen on the floor. This sword was gifted to him by Richard for all his brave efforts. Many of his peers envied the sword but Leonard hated it. In the past, Richard had told him to take the sword to make up for never having Anne.

Leonard turned his back to Fraser, having nothing more to say to the young man. Fraser would learn his lesson soon. It was only sad the kingdom would have to pay while he learned his lesson.

"Get back here!" Fraser yelled as Leonard walked away. It wounded his pride to see that Leonard was walking out of the castle when from the very beginning, Fraser had wanted the pleasure of kicking him out. "I will have your head for this."

"You are not the king yet," Leonard said as Fraser could not carry out his threat at the moment. Even if Fraser did have the power right now there was not a guard in this castle that would step to Leonard to strike him down. Fraser had a thing or two to learn about loyalty.

Fraser spent his life spoiled, taking down to the servants in the castle and now he expected them to respect him. Leonard on the other hand was in the castle for years and had formed many bonds with the guards and other servants. Though he was leaving the castle, he would still be given quick updates on what was happening and have their loyalty.

"Leonard. Why do you seem upset?" Margaret asked as he neared her at the entrance of the throne room. She was paying a visit to ask her grandson about the hefty bill she was made aware of from Fraser wanting to decorate the castle to his liking.

"I have resigned as a castle guard. When there is someone more interested in the people rather than how they will be dressed I will consider returning to the castle. It has been an honor serving your family, Lady Margaret," Leonard said with a bow.

"Resigning? What?" Margaret replied, deeply confused by Leonard’s sudden departure. Now was not the time for good people to be leaving the castle. She was always apologetic to Leonard because of what happened between him and Anne. Then Richard had always taunted Leonard each chance he got, forcing Leonard to be by his side though Richard claimed Leonard was Amelia’s true father and hated Leonard.

Margaret shifted her gaze from Leonard to Fraser who looked angry. "Leonard, before you make this final, let me have a word with him. You must have been wanting to get out of the castle for a long time but you are needed now more than ever."

If it was anyone else, Leonard would have ignored them and left the castle but he respected Margaret. She was always kind to him and somewhere along the line, it became clear she knew about his feelings for Anne. Whenever Margaret was in the castle, she would always send him away each time Richard would order him to stand and watch over his time with Anne.

"I will stay for a moment," Leonard replied before leaving.

This was the only time Margaret would love to be walking with a cane to be able to smack Fraser over the head with it.

Margaret calmly approached Fraser despite the anger building up inside. She tried to have high hopes for him since he was still her grandson but he was proving to be worse than her son. At least Richard would have the common sense to not be spending money at this moment. "Fraser, be short and quick with explaining to me why Leonard is resigning and why there is a large budget spent to remodel the castle."

Fraser clenched his fist, angered by how his grandmother jumped to be against him. "I am not wrong in this matter. I made it clear that I will never fight for peace in with the north-"

Fraser’s words were silenced by Margaret’s hand connecting with his face. "You will not do what? We could have all been killed when they invaded the castle you fool. Do you honestly think we would be spared if you go behind their backs and not push for peace?" Margaret yelled.

She would not allow Fraser to do anything stupid while Amelia was in the hands of the north. Margaret loved Amelia with all her heart and would not let Fraser put her beloved granddaughter in danger.

"Why do we need to become one with the north? Those barbarians are nothing like us and for years we have been far above them. Did you miss how their bastard king was enjoying us kissing his ass?" Fraser asked.

"Fraser, I tried to get rid of all doubt I had for you being chosen as the next king but you are proving to be the fool I predicted you to be. My mistake for not getting involved in your upbringing. Do not do something stupid to ruin what we are building with the north. You have no idea what secrets they are hiding and should they ever unleash their wrath on us, God’s help us," Margaret said as no one in this castle would survive the second attack.
