The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 149

Chapter 149: Chapter 149

"Make it as grand as possible! No other king in history should have a bigger coronation than I did!" Fraser yelled to the servants hustling around the throne room.

With most of the northerners gone, Fraser jumped straight into turning the castle to his liking.

"Fraser-"

"It is your highness now," Fraser snapped at Leonard. He didn’t see why he was advised not to fire the man standing behind him. Leonard was irritating and a failure of a guard. Leonard was meant to be the king’s closest ally and as a guard, he was meant to keep the king alive. Leonard failed at both in Fraser’s eyes.

"You are not the king yet," Leonard replied. Of all people, he did not see why this man-child was being placed on the throne. There were other boys from distant relatives they could have chosen instead of Fraser. Even Amelia was a better choice. The kingdom only needed to get rid of their dislike for women ruling.

Fraser gritted his teeth, feeling the need to give Leonard a piece of his mind but held back. He knew Leonard was on Amelia’s side which was why he was being so difficult. Well, Amelia was gone now so it was best Leonard get rid of this attitude soon. "It doesn’t matter if the crown is not on my head yet. I must be respected," he replied.

"I respect you as Fraser Adams at the moment. I have more important things to talk about instead of your title. A group of men from our side is going to join the remaining northerners to look for the rest of the slaves-"

"Under whose orders?" Fraser cut in. He didn’t order anyone to do such a thing and the men from the court had not mentioned anything about it when he was speaking to them this morning.

"It is an agreement we have with the north to aid them in the search for the slaves they didn’t find yet. They have been successful in saving more people from the slave trade. Both their people and our own. It is only right that we join them," said Leonard.

"I don’t know about that. I don’t have plans to do everything the north wants. I looked into this slave trade," Fraser said as he looked through fine cloth’s he wanted his clothes to be made of. "It was bringing in quite the profit. It’s no wonder why my uncle wasn’t in a rush to end it. Those northerners had been selling for more than an arm and a leg."

"Fraser," Leonard sighed. It wouldn’t end well for them to go against what they agreed to before Killian left. "Our people are a part of that slave trade. The kingdom isn’t profiting from this trade. Evil greedy people are. This kingdom banished slaves a long time ago."

"And then it wasn’t long before they regretted the decision. There is some money to be made in all of this. Free our people but keep the northerners you find in it. I’m thinking of killing off the ones he left behind-"

"Fraser," Leonard said in a frustrated tone. "The castle had not long been taken over by the north and our princess is in their hands. She is not even their queen to be completely protected. We cannot piss off the north when we are so close to peace," he tried to explain in a calm manner.

Nothing would reach Fraser’s ears if he felt like he was being argued with when he was getting advised. Fraser was brought up soft in Leonard’s opinion as the slightest sound of someone raising their voice would have him on the verge of crying.

’We’ll be losing another king soon,’ Leonard thought. No one would want a fool to sit on the throne.

Fraser swung his head around, appearing for a moment as if he would break it. "My word is final. I never had any plans of forming peace with those barbarians. The moment they spared us and I was set to become king, I started to plot. My dear cousin lost her mind by falling for their king."

Leonard knew Fraser was aware that was not the truth. Amelia never wanted to be married off to stop wars she didn’t start. Leonard heard her say it many times after she came of age. She was smart to get rid of all her suitors which ended in her getting married at this late age. "Princess Amelia was against-"

"Silence!" Fraser yelled, done with the disrespect from Leonard. Leonard was just a simple guard so why did he think he could offer the future king advice? Regardless of what he was advised to do, Fraser would get rid of Leonard the second he was crowned king. "I am going do what I think is best for this kingdom."

He continued to say, "The great Blackwells must have been a laughing stock to the neighboring lands. The north walked up to their doors and opened them. I am not going to let us be known as the north’s dogs. There is no peace. Only us listening to their orders. Your priority should be to strengthen our gates and the border so this doesn’t happen again. You should be happy to still have a job let alone your head."

Leonard sighed, feeling like he was the fool for thinking he could get through to Fraser but he had to try. No one else wanted to speak with Fraser because of his short temper and not wanting to lose their job. Anyone who wasn’t completely on Fraser’s side was already rumored to be getting replaced as soon as Fraser gets crowned.

Leonard didn’t have anything to lose like everyone else. He only remained in the castle to protect Amelia which was the last favor her mother asked of him. This castle had nothing left for him and he could only protect the people as he wanted if he cut ties with the castle.

"You do not have to worry about me in the castle," Leonard replied, tossing his sword on the floor.
