The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 142
Chapter 142: Chapter 142
"I know I should but I do not like this. You are making me take back a lot of the things I said about arranged marriages and marriage itself. You are too kind," said Amelia.
"Do you want me to be mean?"
Amelia shook her head, "No. I just meant it feels like it is surreal that you are being so kind. You are the feared king of the north, the war demon and you actually are a demon. It is strange how you are so calm when it comes to me. My mind can’t help thinking I should prepare myself for something bad. Or maybe I just want something bad to happen so that this all feels normal. Do you know what I mean?"
"I think I do. I should anger you a few times so that my being nice isn’t odd. Go it," Killian made a note of this.
Amelia sighed, "Honestly, you are a high-level demon as you said and with the few stories about you at war, you have to admit my suspicion about you. There is definitely a dangerous side to you and a side of you I should fear like everyone else who walks past you."
Amelia eyed a young maid who quickly turned around once she noted Killian was coming her way.
"You are to be my wife. A calm side is reserved for mostly you but I have always been like this unless someone pokes at my peace. Isn’t there a side of you for only me? I would hate to learn that I am not special," said Killian.
Amelia couldn’t say she had one at the moment. Gina and Cyrus were the ones to see a side of her that no one else got to see so it wouldn’t be special to Killian. "Once we are married, there will be one. I will try to open up and show you my vulnerable side. By the way, when are we getting married?"
"In two days’ time. The invitations will be sent to your family tonight. What?" Killian asked in regard to her shocked expression.
"Two days? That is fast. How am I supposed to help plan a wedding in two days? I have no wedding dress or shoes, and I have not even the slightest clue about your culture here to know what I am supposed to be doing leading up to the wedding. Then there’s-Oww!" Amelia touched where Killian flicked her. "That freaking hurt, you brute!"
"It got you to shut up, didn’t it? The wedding is being taken care of by someone else and all we need to do is add input here or there. I’ve assigned someone to teach you about our ways. They shall come to you after breakfast. Cyrus has been tasked with gathering a group of guards to protect you. You will be going outside to see the land you will rule. You have two days’ time to mentally prepare yourself to be queen," said Killian.
"I have been preparing all my life. It is being a wife that I must prepare myself for. Finally," Amelia felt relieved when they reached the dining hall. Food would take her mind off the two chaotic days she needed to prepare for.
Amelia held Killian’s hand as they entered the dining hall to show how comfortable they were by each other’s side and to prove the union would be strong. She knew she shouldn’t have been expecting much but her shoulders fell when she only saw Alastor sitting at the table. Anyone who was present in the castle had no bother showing up.
Normally Amelia wouldn’t care but the repeated cycle of people disapproving of her had to hurt at some point. Amelia released Killian’s hand as there was no use to act a certain way when only Alastor was present. "Good evening Alastor," she greeted him.
Alastor looked up from the papers he had brought to the table surprised that she had greeted him. He hadn’t exactly warmed up to her as the future queen but seeing her sad expression from the lack of guests tonight he had to acknowledge her. "Good night Blackwell princess," he greeted her.
"Is the Blackwell part necessary? You can just call me Princess Amelia. Is it because you think I will always be a Blackwell princess and not the queen of the north in your eyes?" Amelia asked as she sat down in her chair Killian pulled out for her.
"Yes," Alastor replied. The lack of people at the table was a clear sign she might not last long here.
"I see. Is there something strong for us to drink? I find this room to be depressing," Amelia said, looking around the table for alcohol to take her mind off what she was feeling
Killian sat down beside her, noticing how she was disappointed by no one being present. He wanted to say those people did not matter but knew she wouldn’t care for his words. "It is not you that they are avoiding. It is me," he told half the truth.
"You do not need to lie to make me feel better Killian. I am used to this cold welcome so I don’t need to be comforted but thank you for trying."
"I mean it. I sort of pissed off quite a few people today. Isn’t that right, Alastor?" Killian shot Alastor in search of the man to back him up.
Alastor was unamused by what Killian was doing and didn’t wish to join in on cheering up Amelia because he didn’t care about his feelings but Killian would try to kill him if he didn’t reply. "He did, which is why I have these papers on the table. They are complaints about what was said today."
"Really? Let me see one to confirm it," Amelia held out her hand for Alastor to give her proof. She wasn’t a fool to not notice what they were doing. She truly did not need Killian lying to cheer her up.
Alastor looked at Killian, annoyed he was being wrapped up in his lie and now he would have to meddle to make it believable. He hands Amelia what was once a blank paper but thanks to his skill, words formed on the paper right before Amelia took it from him.
Amelia was surprised to see that the paper did have complaints about Killian. Quite colorful complaints she had to say. "You were telling the truth," she muttered. Amelia felt bad for not believing him. "I’m sorry. Here," she handed Alastor back the paper.
She was relieved to know the table was not empty solely because of her.
Alastor wiped away the complaints he had about Killian now that the paper was back in his hands. Considering that she was now living with demons she should be wary of everything present to her as they were all excellent liars with little tricks to fool others.
She shouldn’t believe anything anyone said but perhaps, did she believe him because she trusted him? It couldn’t be that since it was clear he did not like her. Alastor wondered if she trusted him because of his loyalty to Killian. If that was it she would know she shouldn’t take his being loyal to Killian as a factor she could trust him. Alastor would kill Amelia at any point if he felt her presence was gravely affecting Killian.
"What did you do to make them angry with you? Did it have something to do with me?" Amelia asked, certain that it did. She would not believe for a second that the table was empty because of something Killian did and not her presence.
"I might have threatened to off their heads if they touch you in the future. Serve the food," Killian said, ignoring the fact he had brought up killing not just one person but a group of them.
Alastor sipped on the wine he had poured for him and awaited the princess yelling at Killian for threatening someone but to his surprise, the young woman smiled. ’What the hell is going on?’ He thought.
Amelia started to laugh, amused by what Killian had done. She only had her grandmother stand up for her against other powerful people so hearing Killian continuously do it was exciting to hear. This man was certainly determined to reckon all of her judgment and make her like him even more. "Thank you, Killian. That has cheered me up."
Killian was happy to hear threats of death were something to cheer her up. He could do it more often since there were many people in the castle he had plans to either threaten or kill now that she was here.
Alastor looked back and forth between the two trying to make sense of what was happening. One, Killian was showing emotions he never thought the man had and two, a princess was enjoying threats.
"What is the matter with you?" Killian addressed the burning gaze.
"I am trying to make sense of your thoughts," Alastor answered. He was starting to change his mind as the two weirdos belonged together.
