The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 140

Chapter 140: Chapter 140

"You already look like a queen, Amelia."

"Thank you," Amelia replied to Gina’s compliment.

She stared at herself in the mirror in Killian’s room as Gina continued to fidget with her appearance. Unlike the first night, she spent in the castle she was now allowed to get dressed and go to the dining hall to have dinner with everyone present in the castle.

Gina placed Amelia’s tiara in her hair as the final touch for the night. "There might be someone trying to embarrass you but you must remain calm. Do not let them see they have gotten you all riled up. Remember how much it used to boil your father’s blood when you would not respond when he made sly comments? That will piss off the people here too."

"I already have a game plan for how I will deal with the people here but thank you. You are much more hands-on here than you were back home. I’m proud," said Amelia. As her personal maid, Gina needed to be quick on her feet to handle any situation that Amelia was worried about at first but Gina was proving her wrong. "Seems to me like you were slacking off back then."

"Hey! I like to think I was saving my amazing skills for when you would become queen. Besides, with how dangerous the north is for the two of us, I need to be on my feet," Gina replied.

"Right. Gina, I was thinking that what if instead of my maid you become a lady in waiting? It will grant you special privileges," said Amelia.

Gina was excited at the thought of it but then remembered her low status. "But I am just a commoner. There will be other ladies who come from good families and can offer you far better connections. People will wonder why you picked me."

"Because there is no one else I trust like you. Raising your status is not the issue. I can put one of the homes back home in your name to increase your wealth. And as luck will have it, I seem to have the king of the north ready to do anything for me to please me."

"I am still here," Killian said from the bed to make his presence known. He was bored from waiting for Amelia to get all dressed up just to eat. He did not see the point of it. She would dress up for an hour at dinner and then return to get dressed for bed. Killian was in his casual clothes not caring to dress up for anyone joining him at dinner.

"Would you prefer that I talk about you behind your back? I am ready for dinner so you can stop acting like watching me get ready is the most painful thing in the world. I am used to this from when I was a little girl so now you have to get used to it. You can retire for the night once you are finished and remember to think about what I suggested. Come you grumpy man," Amelia went to the bed to poke Killian.

Amelia understood why Alastor seemed to be very annoyed all the time. Killian did not look like he wanted to go out to have dinner with others and would rather stay in the room. "You are more antisocial than I would ever have imagined."

"You will see why if there are a lot of guests at the table." Killian stood from the bed and held Amelia’s hand. "There might not be anyone there," he gave her a heads up. It was expected demons wouldn’t be too welcoming to his human wife and he was not going to force them to like her. All they needed to do was not touch a single hair on her head.

Amelia forced a smile. "Then I will enjoy the two of us being there and getting to know each other."

Amelia found it to be childish if no one would show up. No matter how at odds she was with her father, they would always be at the table during dinner. She would be there no matter the irritating guest he invited to the castle. She got that she was different but to stay away before getting a good judgment of her was stupid. Nevertheless, Amelia wouldn’t allow them to ruin her plans.

Killian and Amelia left their room, taking a quiet stroll to the dining hall.

"Now that you have announced I am to be your wife, do I still need to sleep in the same room as you? There is a room beside your own and since you trusted me to be without you earlier today, it should be fine that we sleep apart right? All of my things-"

"Did I make you uncomfortable last night? I did not move from the chair while you slept," Killian interjected as he felt he scared her. He had been trying his best to not be terrifying around her. They kissed two times so one would think she would be okay with them sharing a room since he was trying to keep her safe.

"It is not that. I just don’t like that I am taking your bed because you are watching out for me. You do not make me uncomfortable nor do you scare me anymore. The only time you scared me was the first day we met. You can sleep with me on the bed tonight. That is the only way I will continue to share your bedroom," said Amelia.

"What happened to a man and woman who should not be in the same room at night before they are married?" Killian mused.

"That has long been thrown out the window and I am starting to enjoy how less judgemental the north is. If it is not a big deal here, why should I worry about it? That doesn’t mean you can try anything. I want to remain pure until our wedding. That is one tradition I want to stick to. Deal?" Amelia stuck out her pinky finger to make a deal.

"So kissing is off limits?" Killian started to wrap his finger around her own to seal the deal.

Amelia’s cheeks warmed up as she replied, "I never said that."
