Chapter 98: Meet again

It was a sunny afternoon, and the hospital gardens were bustling with activity. Patients in wheelchairs and on crutches, accompanied by their loved ones, were taking in the fresh air and the sights and sounds of the garden.

Ava had suggested that they take a walk in the gardens. With four bodyguards trailing behind them. Two from Rhys and two were Ava’s.

She realized over the past weeks of Ava accompanying her that her boyfriend was very protective, possessive and controlling.

He rarely talked let alone acknowledged Beatrix anytime he came to pick Ava up from the hospital.

But Ava was in love with him and seemed happy that’s all that mattered. She was not the one in the relationship to make assumptions.

As they walked, Ava chatted and laughed with Beatrix , trying to take her mind off of her troubles. She told funny stories and shared bits of gossip, anything to bring a smile to her friend’s face.

Despite her best efforts, Ava could see that she was still struggling. She wrapped her arm around Beatrix and gave her a comforting hug,

"It’s okay, Beatrix, " Ava said soothingly. "We’re going to get through this together."

Beatrix sighed and looked up at her friend. "I know you’re trying to help, but it’s just so hard," she said, her eyes welling up with tears.

"I don’t know how much longer I can keep going like this. I miss him."

"Don’t worry Beatrix. I’m sure he will wake up soon"

Beatrix wiped away her tears and nodded. "Thanks, Ava, You’re the best friend anyone could ask for."

Ava smiled and gave Beatrix another hug. "Anytime, Beatrix. Anytime."

"I know this is hard but love conquers all. I have spoken to Ace, I know with Damien in the hospital the syndicate must be under attack and going through—"

"Wait what? How did you know about what Damien does? And what do you mean by you have spoken to Ace? Who is Ace?" Beatrix looked at Ava, her face scrunched in a frown.

She couldn’t help but feel suspicious of Ava. She saw how people avoided her in the club and she knew it wasn’t because of the bodyguards that were guarding them.

It was almost as if they all knew she was off limits.

Also, she told Beatrix that her boyfriend stopped the media and police from investigating the blast after Xavier called her.

She had been too preoccupied with Damien to even question how powerful this boyfriend of hers was.

"Well...before Ace would allow me to hang out with you, he had you and Damien investigated. So I know—sorry Beatrix. I had no idea that he did that. He just told me recently."

So Ace was the name of her boyfriend. Seeing how protective he was, she understood Ava.

"Hmm...I understand, don’t worry. So what does your boyfriend do? Because he seems like a really powerful man."

Ava shrugged, "I don’t know. All I know is that he is extremely wealthy and powerful. Probably more powerful than the president."

Ava chuckled as if she was remembering something.

Beatrix raised her brows but said nothing. How can you date someone without being curious about what he did for a living?

"So how did you meet him?"

"Well erm—" Ava blushed.

"I was working as a stripper at a club. I met him there."

Beatrix nodded, "Well even though his face is blank all the time I can see he loves you."

Ava broke into a deep smile, "Really? Do you think so? He is bad at expressing his feelings but he is always there for me and treats me really well. I-I love him but I’m afraid to tell him.

What if I scare him away? He told me initially not to fall in love with him. But I can’t help it. He is just—"

Ava trailed off.

"Perfect?" Beatrix finished for her.

"Yes!" Ava chuckled.

Beatrix couldn’t help but smile too. She knew exactly how Ava felt.

"I think you should tell him. You might never know what will happen next. Life is full of uncertainties. Take the risk."

Ava bit her lips, "You’re right! I will do that."

Beatrix nodded, okay. So you were saying?"

"Yes. So I said I have spoken to Ace. He said he is going to help. First he will be bringing in a set of doctors to look at Damien’s condition and then he will talk to the guys about how he could help with the mafia business."

Beatrix’s eyes widened in shock. Looking at how cold Ace was to her she was surprised that he was agreeing to help them. But he was probably doing it because of Ava and not because of her.

Also they had sort out all the best doctors in the world already. Maybe they missed someone that Ace knew.

"Thank you very much Ava. I owe you one."

Ava shrugged, "That’s what friends are for Beatrix."

Beatrix nodded, they continued their leisurely walk through the hospital gardens, soaking up the warmth of the sun and the beauty of the flowers. It was a small but meaningful gesture from Ava.

"What do you want to eat? I will let the chef prepare it then let someone bring it to you." Ava suddenly asked.

Beatrix shrugged, "I don’t really know. I’m not in the mood for anything."

"What about we have pizza and coke? A delicious pizza can lift anyone’s mood." Ava suggested.

Beatrix nodded, "Alright."

"Okay let me make a phone call."

Ava removed her phone from her pocket and dialed a number.

"Hi John. Please can you pick up—hello?"

Ava walked away from Beatrix as it seemed the connection was poor and the person couldn’t hear her on the other side of the phone.

Beatrix lowered her head and stared at the grasses as she waited for Ava to finish the call.

"Hey! You’re the girl from the club aren’t you?"

Beatrix looked up and saw the crying girl she met at the club.
