Chapter 51: Don’t remember

Chapter 51: Don’t remember

"Beatrix Quinn you finally remembered that you have a bestfriend!"

Beatrix could almost imagine her best friend frown at her and stick out her bottom lip like a kid.

"I am so sorry Stella, I uh-... " She could’t come up with an excuse as she ran a hand down her face.

"My brother said he was keeping you busy with work so I didn’t want to bother you. You know how much I hate bothering someone."

"It’s okay Bee, I am just messing with you," She hummed out and Beatrix sighed in relief, glad she wasn’t angry at her.

The last time that had happened, she had ended up not talking to mher for three days before she finally gave in, unable to resist her best friend’s company.

"So tell me what’s up? How is everything with

you? I threatened your brother that I will beat his ass if something happened to you. You should have seen the horror on his face."

Stella chuckled.

"Yeah,he told me. He doesn’t understand how we have been friends for years when we are polar opposite."

Beatrix smiled, "So how is work?"

Biting her lips, she felt her back hit the bed as she lazily laid down, yawning,

"Boring. Being an assistant sucks but you know, it pays just enough to get by, well enough for me, at least,"

She huffed out and Beatrix smiled, happy for her. She had been through a hell a lot after her parents had passed away in a tragic car accident, leaving her with her father’s debts to pay off.

She had somehow held up strong and made her way through school, getting a bachelor’s degree as she worked as a waitress on the side.

Her father had been empathetic and understanding and he had paid of Stella’s tuition fee and treated her just like another daughter of his

"Well, I hope my brother is treating you well..." Beatrix muttered out with a smile gracing her lips. She knew Stella had a crush on Matteo, her big brother.

"He can be a jerk but at least the pay is good so I’m not complaining. Tell me what your fiancé is like? Is he treating you well?"

She let out and Beatrix let out a humming sound at the back of her throat,"Yeah he is good. He treats me very well."

"Well he better or I will murder him." Stella said.

Beatrix smiled, warmth rushing inside her. She was glad she had Stella in her life.

"So have you done the thing yet?" She suddenly asked and Beatrix couldn’t help but blushed.

"N-no."

"No?!" Stella’s bellowed, clearly she was shock.

"Why is he gay or has a dysfunction somewhere?"

Beatrix shook her head and sighed helplessly.

"No.. we are just taking things slow." She said in Damien’s defense.

"Okay babe. So this means you have forgotten about Rhys? I remember you were going crazy looking for him."

"Well I met him yesterday..." Beatrix mumbled.

"Wait what? Where?"

"At a coffee shop. We didn’t even exchange contact. I’m with Damien now. I don’t want to risk anything with him. You know he screams danger. It’s best that he remains a memory." Beatrix muttered.

"Alright. As long as you’re happy with this decision then I’m happy for you. Well sorry but I have to go Bee, your brother is calling me."

"Alright bye. Take care."

"Love you."

************

"Beatrix"

Beatrix woke up to find Damien standing next to her bed with his arms wide open, waiting for her to jump into them as soon as she registered what was going on.

"Darling. I missed you." Damien said

Beatrix wrapped her arms around him as soon as she recovered from her sleepy state.

"Hmm...but you saw me this morning." Beatrix smiled at him.

"Yeah I know but it’s long don’t you think? I haven’t seen my baby for almost 8 hours now. That’s torture."

He said, pressing a kiss on the bridge of her nose.

"My brother is downstairs, why don’t you freshen up? We can have dinner after."

Beatrix nodded, "Alright."

He smiled lovingly at her and kissed her softly on the lips before he left her room.

As soon as she changed into something decent and entered the gigantic living room, her eyes fell on Damien and a man. His back was facing her so she couldn’t see his face.

For some reason he seemed familiar.

Damien saw her and smiled at her, "Beatrix darling, come meet my brother, Rhys."

The man turned and suddenly her throat felt dry.

He just stared at her with wide open eyed, like the whole world was breaking crumble apart around him... he didn’t even shake.. Just there like he was in total paralysis.

Beatrix’s heartbeat got increased and she was shocked, she stood unblinking, trying to process what was happening. She couldn’t believe it.

Rhys....Rhys was Damien’s brother?!

"Darling are you okay? You look a little pale."

Damien said as he grabbed her hand. Beatrix had no idea when he had reached her.

Rhys averted his gaze and she released the breath she had no idea she was holding.

"I-I fine...just bad cramps." She lied. For the first time she was lying to her fiancé. Beatrix was sure this wasn’t going to be the last time. Because how was she supposed to tell Damien that she had a fling with his brother a year ago.

She knew how much Damien loved Rhys. It will crush him. God help her.

What should she do? Should she pretend that she didn’t know him?

"We meet again." Rhys was the first person to break the silence.

"You guys know each other?" Damien asked, raising his brows at his brother.

"Yes-

"No-"

They both replied at the same time. Beatrix flushed and bit her lips, her heart beating hard in her chest. God what should she do?

"We met at the coffee shop, don’t you remember me?" He smirked at her, clearly he found all of this amusing.
