The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 50: Brothers
Chapter 50: Brothers
"Okay who was that?" Ava asked Beatrix once Rhys left. She had forgotten that she was standing beside her all this while.
Rhys had made her feel like she was the only woman in the room. Now everyone’s eyes were on her.
Beatrix blushed and went back to her seat with Ava following behind her.
"Just an old friend I met a year ago. We hadn’t seen each other again until today" Beatrix said vaguely.
She felt guilty leaving out the big details about who Rhys was, or how she actually knew him.
But she didn’t know Ava enough to share her personal information with her and she couldn’t risk anything.
"Hmm he seems more than a friend you haven’t seen in a while, Beatrix."
Ava said, raising her brows at her.
Rhys was just a friend now, if you could call it that, more so an acquaintance, Beatrix didn’t plan on pursuing a relationship with him further.
Having Rhys in her life seemed like playing with fire, and she was not the type of person for that.
Beatrix shrugged, "What should we order? I was waiting for you. "
The rest of the lunch date with Ava went by in relative peace. She didn’t probe for more answers and didn’t ask any more questions about Rhys.
They talked about books, movies and their college days. Beatrix really liked Ava. She was such a sweet person.
She knew Stella would be jealous if she tells her about Ava. That girl was so possessive but Beatrix guessed that’s the thing when you have been friends with someone throughout your life.
You don’t want to share them with another person.
The driver came to pick them up and she let him drop Ava at the bookstore.
"Do you know when Damien will be back?" Beatrix asked the driver when it was left with them.
"No ma’am. He said he was going to meet with the young master."
The driver replied.
"His brother?" Beatrix asked. Damien hadn’t informed her that he was in town.
"Yes. He arrived yesterday evening."
"Alright."

"How long do you think Rhys will be?" Xavier asked, taking another long drink from his beer.
Damien pulled his phone out of his pocket, looking at the time
"It’s only 3pm, he said he was grabbing some coffee, so he should be here soon"
Damien checked to make sure he had no messages from Beatrix.
He knew she was going with Ava. He was happy that she had gotten a friend. He felt bad leaving her alone in the big house.
He had made Xavier investigate Ava before he let her go out with her.
And they had found some interesting information but the most important thing was that she wasn’t a threat to Beatrix.
He wondered what she was doing right now.
He quickly sent her a text, feeling like a whiny girlfriend.
Why hasn’t she texted him ?
Beatrix:
Sent 3:01pm:
Have you missed me?
Okay maybe that sounded corny.
His phone vibrated, grabbing his attention and he smiled
Beatrix :
Received 3:03pm:
No. My fictional boyfriends are keeping me company. When will you be back?
Beatrix
Sent 3:03pm:
Very funny. Not for a few hours, behave yourself.
Beatrix :
Received 3:04pm:
I always do
Beatrix
Sent 3:04pm
I know dear, I know. I will be coming with my brother. Maybe we can grab dinner together.
Beatrix
Received 3:05
Alright.
Damien shove his phone back in his pocket, rolling up the sleeves of his black dress shirt and shifted to get more comfortable in his seat.
A sinister smile graced Xavier’s lips as he turned on the chair slightly, resting his arm on the arm of the chair with the same look
"You’ve been acting weird for a couple weeks now.
You used to get laid at least once a day to release your fucked up emotions and now, I haven’t even seen you glanced at another female."
Damien shrugged his shoulders "What’s it to you?"
Xavier gave him a smug look "Should I assume that you’re falling in love?"
Damien’s jaw ticked as he took a large gulp from his drink, refusing to look at him.
"What? Don’t be ridiculous."
"Well you have seen the look on your face. You were smiling at your phone like a school girl five minutes ago" he grinned , raising his brows at him.
Damien turned his face to him with a blank expression "I will shoot vou if vou don’t shut the fuck up"
He bit back a laugh, raising his hands in surrender
"Calm down, Christ I’m just happy for you. No need to be violent. I’m your only best friend you can’t kill me over a girl."
"I don’t know what you’re talking about and you’re not my only best friend. Don’t flatter yourself."
Damien said, giving him a warning glare as he finished his drink.
The door opened and the person he had been dying to meet came inside.
Damien frowned, he looked thinner. Why the fuck does he look like some drug addict. He would never understand his brother’s obsession with those piercings and tattoos.
"Rhys." He said as he stood up.
"Bro." Rhys said as he stride towards him hugging him.
"Please, not this emotional dramatic scene again." Xavier whispered under his breath but they ignored him.
"Hey kiddo. You have gotten taller?" Damien said with disbelief once they pulled apart.
"Have you lost weight? You seem thinner. Don’t tell me you’re still doing that drug shit again. I swear-"
Rhys chuckled, interrupting Damien, "Stop being a parent Damien. I’m no longer a child. I’m 28 for Christ sake."
"So? You will always be my little brother."
Rhys rolled his eyes and sat down.
"Xavier" he nodded at him, pouring himself a glass of drink.
Damien sighed and sat down. He knew Rhys didn’t like it when he fussed about him but it was difficult not to. When you had literally raised someone.
Even though they were just three years apart he had been the one to take care of him ever since that day.
"So...You said you’re getting married?"
Rhys said, looking at his brother.
"Yes."
"Hmm and what caused you to make this stupid decision? Are you suffering from some condition I should know about? Are you dying?"
Rhys said with a deadpan look in his eyes. But Damien knew him enough to see the slight shake of his hand on the glass.
"No. I’m not dying. I’m not getting younger Rhys. I need to have kids to carry the family’s name."
"Hmm, touching." Rhys said with a snort, clearly unhappy with his decision.
"So who is she? I don’t remember you going out with anyone."
"Don Falcon Quinn’s daughter." Damien whispered, waiting for Rhys’ reaction.
Rhys glanced at him and chuckled darkly, "Funny."
"I’m not joking Rhys. I’m marrying his daughter."
Rhys studied Damien for a moment before closing his eyes and sighing wearily.
"Why?"
The breath Damien didn’t realize he had been holding came out in a slow hiss.
"You know why." Was Damien’s short answer. A look passed between the brothers.
"And you want me to babysit her? Are you that confident that I won’t kill her?," Rhys blurted out, his eyes lifting to lock with his.
Damien nodded, his mouth curling into a crude smile.
"Why don’t you meet her first? Maybe you might change your mind."
Rhys snorted and gulped down his drink.
