The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 48: Propose

Chapter 48: Propose

"Tell me when did you start wearing your glasses?"

Beatrix looked up from the book she was reading and turned to Damien who was sitting beside her on the bench.

It was late morning the next day and they had just finished eating breakfast prepared by Damien.

He still hasn’t taught her to cook yet. He just lets her observe things and explain any questions she has to her.

Something about a good student has to observe her teacher first.

But she wasn’t complaining though, she loved watching the man cook for her.

The more time she spends with him, the more selfish she becomes. She didn’t want him to leave her.

Last night, he prepared dinner and they ate it in the gardens while watching the long, gradual sunset by the horizon.

Later, they stepped out to the balcony where he held her in his arms to guard her from the cool evening breeze and when they came back in, he kissed her on the forehead and bid her goodnight.

But as he walked towards his room, he walked back to ask her to sleep with him.

No, not what you’re thinking.

Beatrix was stunned when he said that but seeing the hopeful glint in his eyes she couldn’t say no to him.

Minutes later, after she had washed up she went back to his room where he pulled her into his arms.

Beatrix didn’t even remember when she had fallen asleep. Just the sound of listening to his heartbeat.

When she woke up in the morning, she saw him watching her the moment she opened her eyes, his head resting on a hand he’d propped up on his elbow.

The sun was already bright and warm outside despite the built-in blinds and the golden morning light was reflected on Damien’s tousled hair and chiseled face making him look divine.

He leaned over and kissed her good morning, pulling her into his arms and asking her how she was feeling that morning.

They snuggled and talked for almost an hour before the embarrassing rumble of her stomach made him laugh and prompted him to make breakfast.

Beatrix showered while he was off to the kitchen.

The moment was perfect. All of this was too good to be true. Sometimes she pinched herself to confirm that she was dreaming.

"Well, when I was thirteen. I woke up one day and realized my eyesight was getting bad. Everything was blurry."

She said with a shrug.

"Hmm I used to wear one when I was younger. I hated it. So I got rid of it." Damien said.

Beatrix couldn’t imagine Damien wearing glasses. Did he look nerdy or hot? Probably hot.

"Who would have thought that the famous Mr. Niarchos used to wear glasses."

Damien chuckled and shook his head, "Do you know I got rejected by a girl because I was wearing it?"

Beatrix chuckled, "No way!"

Damien gave a dramatic sigh, "Well, she said I was too dorky for her and she preferred the hot bad boys. It was my first time proposing to a girl and I got rejected. Ha."

"Hmmm...it’s her lost anyway."

Damien laughed, "Well years later, she hit me up. I told her she was too shallow for my liking. I rejected her too. It felt good not gonna lie."

Beatrix shook her head, "Petty aren’t we?"

"I never said I’m a goodman princess."

Beatrix chuckled, "But you’re a good man, Mr. Niarchos. "

Damien scrunched his face as if her words offended him.

"You know, you’re terribly romantic for someone who’s supposed to be a ruthless and cruel-hearted man like you claim to be."

Beatrix added, a smile gracing her lips.

Damien pressed a kiss on her forehead then smiled back at her, "I’m not romantic at all-just candid. It’s just when you’re around, my brain stops functioning.

Blood rushes to my cock making it so painfully hard. I’m surprised I haven’t died of a blood clot yet." He said with a little chuckle.

For their physical relationship, Damien was still holding back just a little, but what little resistance he had quickly melted away at the slightest touch or invitation.

Beatrix knew he was worried about taking things with her a little too fast might scare her but she didn’t push him. She just didn’t hold back as much, considering all that she had with him was just three days until he left.

"I thought I didn’t have emotions but the weird feeling in my heart when I’m with you says otherwise. Maybe I’m entranced by your beauty?"

Beatrix’s heart fluttered in her chest.

"You really think I’m beautiful?" She whispered in a slightly awed voice, watching his face, relishing the sincere surprise in his eyes at her statement as if he didn’t actually believe she thought otherwise.

"I don’t think you’re beautiful. You’re truly beautiful.," he replied with a crooked smile.

"When I first saw you sitting in the restaurant room like you wanted to skin me alive. I was like wow. This woman is gorgeous."

"I did not stare at you that way!" Beatrix protested, slapping his shoulder lightly.

"I thought you were the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen."

He chuckled. "Well, that’s what you made me think anyway.

Your red hair was sitting on your shoulders, your green eyes looking large and a little bit lost at first before they started flashing with hatred when you saw me."

Beatrix shrugged, "Well, you were threatening my father. His life was in danger because of you. Clearly I was going to hate you."

Damien nodded, "Sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I was just doing what I thought was best for me. I need your father’s backing. He is one of the most powerful men in the underworld."

Beatrix’s breath lodged somewhere in her throat as she stared into the amber pools of Damien’s eyes. His gaze further pleaded with a look that said, My actions should tell you what you still fail to see.

In the past few weeks, this man, self-assured and magnificent, had beaten down some of his demons, touched her with both kindness and heartbreaking tenderness, fed her, showered her with love and opened a little bit of his soul for her.

He wasn’t a man given to his emotions-even apologies and gruff thank you were hard to wring out because of his position but with her he was always doing the most.

"Thank you." Beatrix whispered. She didn’t have to say anything else but he understood her perfectly.

He pressed a kiss on her lips and grinned, "You can thank me by being my wife."

Beatrix chuckled, "Well that’s a weird way to propose. You should work on that."

"I will.," he murmured, kissing the tip of her nose sweetly.
