The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 219: Nervous wreck
Chapter 219: Nervous wreck
"Friday, seventh of June, that’s today, oh shit, I gotta get ready." She bolted off her chair and headed towards the stack on her bed, but then, she stopped abruptly.
"I gotta call Beatrix."
She ran back to her desk, snatched up her phone and began to call.
"Sweetie, miss me already?"
"Beatrix, I got invited for the interview," Her excitement was palpable from the sound of her voice.
"Ooh, I’m beginning to think Matteo might just be destined for you,"
Her reference caused Stella’s throat to go dry, she scavenged the insides of her mouth for moisture to gulp down because – she wondered why she would make such a reference in the first place.
A panic began to build within her, as she began to believe Beatrix somehow knew about her secret interest in her brother and might’ve told him already.
I don’t think I’d ever be able to face him – ever.
"Why would you think that, Beatrix? He would never see me in that light, you know," That much was evident to her, and it weighed heavily in her heart. She could feel the weight of her incompetence bearing down on her, she sought hard for someone to blame it all on, but all she could come up with for herself.
She had every chance to leave her obsessive ex, but she decided to stay, hoping to change her, gambling with way less chances of her coming out alive. She was absolutely weighed down by the dawning revelations that were recurring in her mind, and she suddenly no longer felt like dwelling on the topic.
"What do you mean, Stella? My brother makes his own choices about whom and what he wants. We can’t really know what those are until he chooses them for himself – wait – Stella," Beatrix’s voice rose in recognition. "Are you by any chance – you know,"
Stella almost choked on the very air that she breathed, "No, no, Beatrix, I am not."
"I didn’t even say what I wanted to say, what did you think I was going to say, Stella?"
"You know what, Beatrix, I’m actually late for the interview. I’ll talk to you later okay?"
With that, she hung up the call and began to take deep breaths as she struggled to calm her erratic heartbeat. If Beatrix ever knew about what she felt for Matteo, she’d do all in her power to play matchmaker. Although she loved the idea of it, she couldn’t risk being seen as someone desperate.
At least I still have a sense of self-esteem. She thought to herself as she headed into her bathroom. Not long after she walked in, she heard her phone ringing again. She ran over to confirm who the caller was – Beatrix.
She sighed deeply and picked up her phone; "Hey girl,"
"Stella,"
"Yes, Beatrix,"
"I love you okay?" The sudden confession made her eyes tingle, she wiped her arm across her eyes as she acknowledged her words.
"I love you too, Beatrix. But is that actually why you placed another call?" Stella asked with humor in her voice. Her friend did a lot of things, but she’d never go ahead with any of them if there was not a good enough reason for her to be doing it in the first place.
"Stella, why do you question anything that I do? Am I not capable of helping you?"
In truth, she had been questioning all of her good intentions, giving her reasons why she shouldn’t help her, when she should be getting excited for the things that she was bringing to the table. She exhaled deeply as her mind’s engines revved at full intensity, trying to process the weight of the moment.
"Yes, you are, Beatrix. I just gotta get used to you doing stuff for me, I guess."
"Isn’t that a good thing, love? Now, I will actually be travelling out, gotta go meet my boyfriends," She emphasized the ’s’, Stella was genuinely confused, wondering just how she managed to have two boyfriends willing to go with her at the same time. "So, I won’t be here by the time you’re leaving the interview. You’re going to do something for me,"
"What’s that?"
"You’re going to tell Matteo any form of issues you may have."
Is she being serious right now?
"You’re kidding right,"
"Don’t panic, Stella, I know you don’t like my brother," There was a hint of sarcasm in her voice that gave off the fact that she knew exactly how she felt about her brother, but Stella ignored, instead, smiling as though she’d been given an all-expense paid vacation trip.
"You’re right about that," Beatrix’s laugh came through the phone, soft and calculating.
"I just feel like there may be a lot of things that you may need me to help you with, but you would not be able to tell me," Beatrix is so kind.
"I will tell you everything directly, is that okay?" Stella reassured her, the smile was evident in her voice.
"Alright, Stella, I love you, okay?"
"I love you too, Beatrix.
She hung up the call and stepped into the bathroom to get herself ready for the interview, which was going to be in a few hours.

Stella approached the towering Quinn’s Group of Companies Headquarters, with her heart racing with anticipation and nerves.
She stood before the gleaming building, taking in its grandeur and splendor. Its sharp edges and modern design were a sight to behold, boring through her insecurity like a drill.
Her legs shook underneath as she approached the rotating doors of the entrance. With a deep breath, she pushed her way through the rotating doors, whispering a silent prayer for her courage to be renewed. Inside, she was met with a stunning sight.
The lobby was expansive, with high ceilings and sleek marble floors. Large windows allowed natural light to pour in, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.
Her eyes darted around, taking in the immaculate and utterly busy surroundings. She could feel her courage giving way to the intimidation that ruled as her personality, as she beheld the high-end décor and luxurious furnishings.
It’s now or never, Stella. You can do this.
