And then his eyes – his most captivating feature, in her opinion, held more shine than the last time they’d locked gazes.

They seemed to have changed in tone, almost a lighter color that added easily to his charm.

Her eyes glazed down to his lips where she pulled hers into her mouth for added moisture.

His lips, although thin, held a fullness and succulence that was almost palpable. At impulse, she ran her fingers on her screen along his facial features.

For the longest time, I’ve had a crush on you, and now, I get to work with you – how coincidental is that?

Her heart rate spiked, she couldn’t imagine being left alone with Matteo. It was true that she had a crush on him during her days at college, but now, times were different.

And from the looks of things, she was way out of his league. She was not demeaning herself, but she couldn’t even match with his sister, let alone him. She sighed deeply, staring blankly at the street before her. It’d take an eternity before she would ever get over him, she could already feel herself giving in to the every signs that he’d give – the slightest sign.

She smacked her palm against her head as she chastised herself for accepting the job in the first place.

Well, it’s not too late to opt out, is it?

With that, she reached for her phone beside her laptop, and dialed Beatrix’s number. She really didn’t want to opt out, in fact, she was willing to give him just one more try just so she’d be able to get her chance in the first place.

"Okay, right now, I’m just being too ambitious."

"About what?" Beatrix’s voice cut through her thoughts, reeling her back to the reality of what she had intended. Now that she was available, she wasn’t so sure about what she had wanted to do earlier.

"Yes, uhm – Stella, I wanted to talk to you about –"

"No, wait – oh, how could I have forgotten?" Stella’s expression turned grim as she forced herself to remain silent and listen to Beatrix over the phone.

"What do you mean?"

"We forgot to shop for your office wears."

Beatrix is not being serious right now.

"Alright, okay, I’m gonna send you the money, and you’re going to get yourself all the things you can, how about that? I can’t believe –"

"Okay, okay, Beatrix, no more charity events –"

"Charity event?! Stella, this is life and death!" Stella couldn’t suppress the laughter that was building up inside her.

"A matter of life and death you say?" she replied amidst light chuckles that increased in volume by the second.

"Yes, Stella. I know you were gonna say no, so here’s what’s gonna happen, I’ll come back to your place and we’re going to head out for your shopping is that okay? Okay. I’ll be on my way now."

What?! She didn’t even wait for a reply.

"Wait, wait, hold on – Beatrix, Beatrix?" She’d hung up the call before Stella even realized.

"She’s even more stubborn than when we were in school together."

Not more than a few minutes later, she heard a car honk outside.

You have got to be kidding me.

She charged over to her window and looked outside only to see Beatrix reaching out of her car window and screaming.

"Wooo, you go girl! Let’s go have fun!"

Stella giggled as she reached for her bag and her phone and bolted down the stairs and towards the main entrance.

"You’re insufferable, Beatrix," Stella whispered as she trotted towards her car.

"Just how you like it, baby. Hop in!" She replied gleefully as she slid back into her seat.

"Are you ready?" She asked Stella who had just clicked her seatbelt in place.

"Knock yourself out." Stella replied shakily, with adrenaline coursing through her, she watched her wild friend’s demeanor brighten as she hit the gas of her G-wagon.

The soft rays of the sun narrowed through the clear paths of her window panes, illuminating their heavenly glow on the hidden shadows of her face. With her eyes still closed, she contorted the features of her face, moaning in turn as she began to roll off her bed.

She hadn’t rolled a long distance when she felt herself gradually leaning towards the edge. The immediate realization and the sudden need to protect herself from falling off her bed, jolted her awake and she sat up with a start, conjuring the most infuriating feeling of a throbbing forehead. She moaned again as she reached her hand to her forehead and rubbed in circle motions, as though the action would ease off her headache.

"Oh my gosh, what time is it?"

Just as she was considering the time, a ping came to her phone. This time, more careful, she rolled towards the edge of her bed, set her feet on the ground and got on her feet, making her way towards her study desk. She picked up her phone and took her seat at the table.

Through the rows of notifications and messages, she saw the one message that was bound to make or mar her day. Her eyes gained a light of their own as she saw on her screen – a message from Quinn group of companies.

She placed her palm against her mouth while she reached for her mouse with the other, and tapped her email.

She had not opened the message when she peered at the first words that appeared. She leapt off her chair and about the room and sat back down as swiftly as she had gotten up – and then slowly, she clicked on the message.

Subject: Interview invitation – Quinn Group of Companies

Dear Stella,

We are pleased to inform you that your application has been shortlisted for the position of the Secretarial Assistant at Quinn Group of Companies.

We would like to invite you for an interview on Friday, 7th of June at 10:00AM at our Headquarters located at 310 Main Street.
