Chapter 183: Visiting graveyard 2
Rhys and Beatrix step out of the café, the warmth of the sun embracing them. Rhys takes Beatrix’s hand, intertwining his fingers with hers, and leads her towards his car.
They settle into the car, the leather seats cool against their skin. Rhys turns on the engine, and the car purrs to life. As they drive, Beatrix looks out the window, taking in the familiar sights of the city.
The streets are quiet this early in the morning, the occasional pedestrian making their way to work or to run errands. Rhys keeps his eyes on the road, navigating through the traffic with ease.
Beatrix fidgets in her seat, feeling anxious about the visit to her mother’s grave. She had not been back since she left the country, and the memories of that day still haunt her.
Rhys reaches over and takes her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "It’s okay, Beatrix," he says reassuringly. "I’ll be right there with you."
Beatrix turns to look at him, the concern etched on her face. "I don’t know if I can do this, Rhys," she whispers, tears welling up in her eyes. "It’s just so hard."
Rhys pulls over to the side of the road and turns to face her, cupping her face in his hands. "You can do this, Beatrix," he says firmly, his eyes locking onto hers. "I believe in you. And I’ll be right there by your side, every step of the way."
Beatrix takes a deep breath, feeling a sense of calm wash over her. She nods, wiping away her tears. "Thank you, Rhys," she says, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rhys leans over and kisses her gently on the forehead. "Let’s get you home so you can change. We’ll take all the time you need."
Beatrix leans into his touch, feeling grateful for his support. As Rhys starts the car and pulls back onto the road, Beatrix closes her eyes, trying to steady her nerves.
After a few minutes he pulled over at her place.
"Go on, I’m waiting for you here."
Beatrix frowned at him, "You’re not coming up?"
Rhys smiled at her, "No."
Beatrix looked confused, "But why not?"
Rhys took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto hers. "Beatrix, I want to give you space. This is a difficult and personal moment for you, and I don’t want to intrude. But I’ll be right here, waiting for you when you’re ready."
Beatrix felt a wave of gratitude wash over her, touched by Rhys’s thoughtfulness. She leaned over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before stepping out of the car.
As she walked towards her front door, Beatrix couldn’t help but feel a sense of apprehension wash over her. But she knew that Rhys was right - she could do this.
With a deep breath, Beatrix stepped inside her home and made her way to her room. She changed into a simple black dress and grabbed a bouquet of flowers before making her way back to the car.
Rhys looked up as she approached, his eyes softening at the sight of her. "You look beautiful," he said softly.
Beatrix smiled weakly, feeling grateful for his compliment. She got into the car and they drove off, the silence between them comfortable.
As they reached the cemetery, Beatrix’s heart rate spiked. But she knew that Rhys was right there with her, supporting her every step of the way.
Together, they made their way to her mother’s grave. Beatrix laid the flowers down gently and took a deep breath, feeling a sense of closure wash over her.
"Thank you for being here with me, Rhys," she said softly, turning to face him.
Rhys took her hand, intertwining his fingers with hers.
"Always, Beatrix. I love you."
"Hey mom, this is Rhys. The man I love. Well they’re actually two." Beatrix let out a mirthless chuckle.
"Crazy right? Never in my wildest dream did I think that a man would ever fall in love with me but it isn’t one man mom. I have two men who would bring the stars down just to see me smile. Unfortunately I came with only one today. Next time I will bring them both."
Beatrix paused for a moment, lost in thought, before continuing. "I wish you could have met them, Mom. They’re amazing, and they love me unconditionally. They accept me for who I am, flaws and all."
Rhys squeezed her hand, giving her a reassuring smile.
Beatrix turned back to her mother’s grave, taking a deep breath. "I miss you, Mom. I wish you were here with me, but I know that you’re watching over me. And I hope that you’re proud of the person I’ve become."
As she spoke, a gentle breeze blew through the cemetery, rustling the leaves of nearby trees. Beatrix closed her eyes, feeling a sense of peace wash over her.
Rhys pulled her into a comforting embrace, holding her close as she let out a few tears. They stayed there for a while, lost in their own thoughts and emotions.
Eventually, they made their way back to the car and drove in silence for a few moments. Beatrix turned to Rhys, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you for being here with me," she said softly.
Rhys smiled at her, his eyes sparkling with love. "Always, Beatrix. I’ll always be here for you."
"You wanna go home with me? My father is a mess during this time. I don’t want to leave him alone."
Rhys nodded without hesitation. "Of course, I’ll go with you. Your father shouldn’t be alone in a time like this."
Beatrix nodded, "Alright.’
They drove in silence, each lost in their own thoughts. One worried about her father, the other thinking this might be the perfect opportunity. The enemy is weak and vulnerable.
Rhys hand on the steering wheel tightened as he drove down the quiet road. Beatrix completely oblivious to the impending doom that was about to wreck her world.
