The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 138: Meeting

Chapter 138: Meeting

"Hello?" Rhys said, pinching in between his brows.

"Rhys..." Beatrix called him out softly.

Rhys felt a knot form in his stomach as he answered and heard Beatrix’s voice, trembling and panicked, on the other end of the line.

"Beatrix? Oh my God! Is that really you? Where are you? Are you okay?"

Rhys asked a series of questions at once. He couldn’t really believe that it was Beatrix calling him. He had thought that he had lost her forever.

"Yes...I don’t know where I am. I fainted when I walked out of the washroom. I was having really bad cramps and wanted to sit down to wait for you. I’m sorry, I know you told me not to leave the stall and to wait for you to be back. Someone found me. So far I haven’t really met who it is but don’t worry I’m fine and they’re taking good care of me."

Rhys felt a wave of relief wash over him at the sound of Beatrix’s voice. But he couldn’t shake off the fear that she was in danger.

Because who could have possibly found her that they couldn’t pull anything out of the security footage?

If the person had found her and had taken her away someone might have seen them or the normal person would have alerted a staff member.

None of this made sense.

"Beatrix, stay where you are and keep talking to me. I’m going to find Xavier and find out where you are. Just hold on, okay? I’ll find you." Rhys said with determination in his voice.

He rushed to where Xavier was with the police, "It’s Beatrix she has called. She is safe but I don’t think so. We need to trace the number and find her location as soon as possible."

Xavier nodded and turned to the detective in charge of the case. "We need your help to trace a number."

The detective nodded and made a phone call as Rhys continued his conversation with Beatrix.

"Do you think I’m in danger?" Beatrix asked, clearly she had heard the conversation he had had with Xavier.

"I don’t know. But we couldn’t pull anything out of the security footage. Whoever took you must be really powerful." Rhys explained.

"Well I think it’s a woman. The servant calls her young miss. I’m waiting for her to come back from town. I’m curious about who she is."

Rhys furrowed his brows at what she had said. A woman? Who could it be?

"Have you called Damien? He must probably be worried sick. He can’t stress his body. I’m afraid he might get another seizure."

"Yes I have spoken to him. Don’t worry, he is fine. The most important thing is that we know you’re safe now. Wait, whose phone are you using?" Rhys asked.

"Oh, the servant gave me the phone to call you when I explained to her that my family members might be worried."

Rhys frowned, "Really?"

"Yes. Like I said, they have been really nice to me since I woke up."

Xavier turned to look at Rhys and frowned,

"The number is untraceable. We can’t fucking trace the number!"

Rhys’ heart thumped in his chest. His suspicions were getting confirmed.

"Beatrix—listen to me—"

The line cut off before he could complete his sentence.

"Fuck! Fuck!" He let out a series of curses raking his hands through his hair.

"I don’t care if we want to hide Damien, we need to immobilize forces. We have to fucking find her."

"I need to confirm with Damien first." Xavier sighed. If something happens to her, her father would create havoc on this land, not to mention her brothers. We can’t afford that right now."

Xavier pulled out his phone and dialed Damien’s number but it was busy.

"Weird, who could he probably be speaking to?"

Rhys arched his brows, "What?"

"It’s Damien, his line is busy." His phone rang, "Oh he is calling back."

"Damien, hey so Rhys just received a call from Beatrix-"

"What?" Damien asked, Xavier could hear how tight his voice was.

"Yes. We tried to trace the number for location but it was untraceable."

"Alina has her." Damien said.

"What?! That fucking psychopath. She dares to do this after everything? I will fucking put a bullet straight into her skull when I meet her."

Damien sighed, "She wants me to meet her."

"No. You’re not meeting that bitch. You could barely hold a gun without tremors and you’re weak. You’re vulnerable right now Damien. We are not risking anything."

"But it’s either me or her. I don’t have any other options. If I could save her, why not?"

Xavier frowned, "You know she might not be up to anything good. I don’t trust her. Tell me you’re taking some kind of backup with you or you have a plan."

"I don’t have any. She told me to come alone and if I try anything funny, Beatrix would pay for it. You know how heartless Alina is. I’m not risking anything. I’m going to meet her and see what the fuck she wants."

"But-"

"No. I have already made up my mind. I will allow my location on. I want to follow me in case of anything."

"You’re really going? We can find another way—we have enough forces to track her location down."

"It will take time. She had given me half an hour. If I’m not there Beatrix would be in danger."

Xavier sighed, "Okay, where are you meeting her? I will monitor the cameras."

"La Palfina."

"Fucking bitch. Isn’t that the place you proposed to her?"

"Yes. I will be meeting her in the same room. You know what to do right?"

Xavier glanced at Rhys before he replied,

"Yes."

"Good." And with that Damien hung up the call.

"Why what’s wrong? What did Damien say?"

Rhys asked. He didn’t like the look on Xavier’s face.

"It’s Beatrix, we know where she is."

Rhys’ eyes lit up, "Really where is she?"

"Alina has her."

"Who the hell is that? And why does she have Beatrix?"

"It’s a long story but Damien had a thing with her in the past. Also she is the reason for the bomb attack. The daughter of the capo of the Russian mafia."

"So a jealous ex?"

"Yeah. You can say that."

"Fuck! This is worse than I thought. I don’t know what happens in this whole mafia thing but how bad is this? Will we get Beatrix back? Do we have to do something?"

"No, don’t worry, Damien is meeting her. I have to go with him. If anything happens I will let you know."

Rhys wanted to protest that he would go but he knew he would only delay them. It’s better he let Xavier handle this."

"Alright. I will be here in case the police find anything else."

Xavier nodded and walked towards his car.

Rhys hated how powerless he felt at the moment. It’s like they weren’t doing enough for Beatrix. What’s the point of having all these money and power if they can’t even protect the woman they loved,

But then he didn’t understand how these Mafia men operated. He just had to trust Damien on this. He wouldn’t let anything happen to the woman they loved.

***********

Damien carefully selected a black baseball cap and pulled low over his forehead, covering most of his facial scars.

Next, he chose a dark pair of sunglasses, sliding them over his eyes to conceal the rest of his scars. He finishes off the outfit with a black leather jacket and matching gloves.

Maybe if the bitch saw how ugly he looked right now she would leave him alone. She never understood Alina’s obsession with him but then again that woman wasn’t normal.

He took a deep breath and grabbed his car keys from the table and walked out of the room.

The only reason why he was confidently meeting Alina was because even though Alina was a crazy bitch she had a weakness and that weakness was him.

He hopes he was right or he would be in some deep shit.

As Damien walked down the hall, he felt his heart pounding in his chest. Despite his tough exterior, he was nervous to confront Alina. He knew she was unpredictable and he was vulnerable now.

He made his way to his car and got in, starting the engine. He took one more deep breath before putting the car in gear and pulling out into the street.

As he drove, he tried to clear his mind and focus on the task at hand. He had to stay calm and collected, no matter what Alina said or did.

Finally he arrived at the agreed location. La Palfina, it was a five star Michelin restaurant belonging to Xavier. But actually no one knew about it.

Another reason why he was confident coming here.

When he got inside the agreed booth, he saw Alina sitting there, looking calm and composed.

She had her hair styled in a sleek bun and was wearing a black dress that accentuated her curves.

He took a deep breath and walked towards her. As he approached, she looked up and gave him a small smile.

"Hello,Damien," she said in a soft voice.

"Alina," he replied, trying to keep his tone neutral.
