The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 137: The Call
Chapter 137: The Call
Damien sat in the garden, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The warm sun shone down on him, making him feel at peace. He watched as the delicate butterflies fluttered around, stopping occasionally to feed on the brightly colored flowers.
As he sat there, he couldn’t help but reminisce about his childhood memories spent in the garden with his mother.
He remembered the times when his mother would take him by the hand and they would go outside to play. They would pick flowers, chase butterflies and explore the different parts of the garden.
His mother was always so full of energy and life, despite everything and she brought so much joy into Damien’s dark world. She was the only good memories he had of his childhood.
As he sat there, Damien closed his eyes and remembered the sweet smell of the flowers and the sound of the birds singing in the trees. He could feel his mother’s hand in his, and he smiled as he thought about all the happy times they had shared.
One of his fondest memories was the day his mother showed him how to catch butterflies. She would take him to the part of the garden where the butterflies liked to visit, and they would sit and wait.
They would be still and quiet, watching as the colorful insects fluttered by. When a butterfly would land on a flower, Damien’s mother would gently reach out and capture it in her cupped hands.
She would then release the butterfly back into the air, and Damien would watch in amazement as it flew away.
Damien’s mother had a special way of making everything seem magical, and she had instilled in him a love for nature that he still held onto today.
As he sat in the garden, he thought about how much he missed her and how much he wished she was still here to share these moments with him.
He also remembered how his mother would take him on walks through the garden and they would talk about everything under the sun.
They would discuss his dreams, her hopes and the world around them. Damien was always so interested in what his mother had to say, and he cherished their conversations.
As the sun began to set and the butterflies started to disappear, Damien stood up and took one last look around the garden. He felt a sense of comfort knowing that his mother was still with him, even though she was no longer here.
As Damien walked back into his home, he glanced at his phone and saw that he had missed several calls from Rhys. He quickly called back, feeling a sense of urgency in his chest.
"Damien, thank god you called back," Rhys answered on the first ring.
"What’s going on, Rhys?" Damien asked, concern etched in his voice.
"It’s Beatrix," Rhys said, his voice shaking. "She’s missing."
Damien felt like someone had pierced a knife through his chest. What the fuck?
What do you mean by she is missing?" Damien asked, trying to stay calm.
"She got her period while we were eating and I had to rush to get her sanitary pads while she waited for me in the washroom when I came back she was nowhere to be found." Rhys explained.
"The manager has called the police though. Do you want them to be involved with this?" Rhys asked.
Damien’s heart raced as he tried to process the information. "What are the police doing about it?" he asked.
"They’re investigating, but they don’t have any leads yet," Rhys replied.
"Find her! Call Xavier, pull out the security cameras, look for any clues. I’m coming over." He said as he began to walk to the bedroom to find his car keys.
"No. You’re still recovering Damien. I will find her, don’t worry. I will call Xavier then we will know what to do." Rhys said.
"But I can’t just sit—"
"The doctor said you’re not fit to drive and you don’t want our location to leak, do you? We can’t risk anything. I will update you when we finally get any leads about where she might be. Don’t stress yourself too much. Your body can’t handle the stress." Rhys interrupted him.
Damien sighed, "Please...find her."
"I will, Damien. We’ll bring her back safely. Just take care of yourself," Rhys reassured Damien before hanging up the phone.
Damien sat down on the bed, feeling helpless and worried about Beatrix. He knew that Rhys and Xavier would do everything they could to find her, but it was a difficult time for him as he was not able to do anything himself. He closed his eyes and sighed.
It’s like they could never catch a break, something bad was always happening. Will they ever get their happily ever after?
He hated how useless he felt right now. The woman he loved was in danger and he could do nothing to help her.
He was still weak and he knew the wolves in the family were waiting for him to show up so that they could take him down.
He couldn’t risk that. He had people he still needed to protect. He needed to lay low while Xavier cleaned out the spies and mess in syndicate.
As Damien sat on the bed, his thoughts were consumed with worry and fear for Beatrix. His heart was racing and his breathing became shallow and rapid.
His palms were sweaty and his hands were shaking. He felt like the walls were closing in on him and he couldn’t escape the anxiety he was feeling.
He tried to take deep breaths to calm himself, but it seemed to have no effect. He felt a tightness in his chest and his thoughts were spiraling out of control. He could feel the headache coming and it was overwhelming him.
He felt like he was drowning and that there was no way out. He wished he could do something to help, but he was stuck in his own body, unable to escape the grip of anxiety.
Damien raked this hands through his hair as the familiar mocking voice sounded in his head
"You’re pretty useless boy. Just worthless."
As Damien was struggling to breathe and calm down, his phone rang. He hesitated for a moment before answering it, hoping it was Rhys with some news about Beatrix. But it was an unknown number. He answered hesitantly, "Hello?"
"Is this Damien?" a female voice asked.
"Yes, this is Damien," he answered, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Who is this?" He asked, arching his brows. The voice felt familiar but for some reason he couldn’t remember where he had heard it.
"Tsk, Tsk, I’m hurt Damien. You don’t even recognize my voice anymore." The woman sighed.
Damien rubbed his head, trying to soothe the headache that was silently brewing.
"Well I know where your little sweetheart is." The voice continued.
Damien felt his heart leap in his chest. He sat up straight and tried to focus on what the woman was saying. The sound of her voice, the mention of Beatrix, and the fact that she had information snapped him out of his anxiety attack.
He listened intently, hope and fear both flooding his mind as the woman continued to speak.
"I will tell you where she is if you agree to meet me. I miss you so much. You’re all I think about these days and not knowing where or what you’re up to is driving me crazy. It’s bad for my OCD."
He could hear the desperation in her voice and Damien knew who she was.
Alina.
The only bitch who was adamant on ruining his life and wouldn’t leave him alone.
"Alina...." He spat out bitterly.
He has never wanted to torture and kill someone so bad like he did right now.
She was the reason why he had nearly died and she had the guts to even call him to blackmail him too.
Damien let out a menacing laugh, "What makes you think that I won’t kill you if I see you?"
"Because you love me." She replied letting out a fits of giggles.
"I don’t know if you stupid or just crazy. I will never love you." He sighed.
"Rude." She said, "But I don’t care. If loving you means I’m crazy then I don’t mind being labeled as a mad woman. "
She continued.
"Also you should know better, Damien. You don’t want to be on my bad side right now. Your little sweetheart is currently in my custody and she is going to pay the price if you dare to mess with me. I want to see you. The more you delay the more your baby suffers. Such a shame she was such a good friend to me. I will hate to hurt her."
"You wouldn’t dare?!" Damien bellowed.
Alina chuckled, "Oh Damien....you know I would. I will do anything to get what I want. You should know by now. You have 10 seconds to make a decision..." she trailed off then started counting.
"1...2....3..."
Damien clenched his fists. God he hated this bitch so much.
"20...29"
"Fine! I will meet you. Just don’t hurt her or you will fucking regret it."
"Good boy. I knew you couldn’t wait to see me too. Don’t dare to play tricks with me. I want you to come alone. I need to see you, not anyone else."
She said ignoring his threat.
"You remember the place you falsely proposed to me? You have half an hour to get here or I will send her dead body to you."
Without waiting for his reply she hung up the call.
