The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 139: Marry me
Chapter 139: Marry me
"Ouch, you should at least pretend that you’re happy to see me." She said, her lips curling into a menacing smirk.
Damien rolled his eyes and strode towards her. He saw the fleet of shock that glinted through her eyes when she finally saw his face.
"Rotting hell! What the fuck happened to your face?" She exclaimed, her hands covering her mouth in shock.
"Shouldn’t you know that since you’re the reason for this?" Damirn snorted in disgust.
God could this woman be any more infuriating?" She had the guts to ask him what had happened to his face when she was the reason behind it.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." She said, averting her gaze.
Don’t act like you’re innocent," Damien spat out, his anger rising with each passing second. "You know exactly what you did, and now you have the nerve to show up here and act surprised?"
She frowned, her expression changing from shock to one of confusion. "What are you talking about? I don’t know what you’re blaming me for."
"You really want to play dumb?" Damien sneered, his hands balling into fists. "You bombed my house and I barely survived and now you have the audacity to show up here and act like you don’t know anything?"
"I swear to you, Damien," she said, holding up her hands in a gesture of surrender. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. I had nothing to do with what happened to you."
Damien hesitated, his mind racing as he tried to make sense of her words. Could it be that she was telling the truth? But if she wasn’t responsible, then who was?
"You know I will never hurt you. I love you—"
"Please just stop." Damien interrupted her.
"It’s my father. If I had known he was going to hurt you, I would have stopped him. He didn’t tell me or inform me. I was enraged and hurt when I found out. I had to even sneak inside the hospital to see you." She confessed.
A shiver ran along Damien’s spine. She had been there in his hospital room while he was unconscious and vulnerable. God she could have killed him and no one would have found
Damien shook his head, still unsure of what to believe. "Fine, let’s say I believe you. Why do you want to see me?"
She let out a sigh, her shoulders slumping. "I need your help," she said softly. "I’m in trouble and I don’t know who else to turn to."
Damien raised an eyebrow, skepticism etched on his face. "You expect me to just forget everything that happened and help you?"
"Please, Damien," she said, her voice filled with desperation. "I know I’ve done wrong in the past, but I’m begging you to believe me now. I’m in serious trouble and I need your help."
Damien paced back and forth, his mind working overtime. Part of him wanted to just walk away and leave her to deal with her own problems, but she had Beatrix and knowing Alina she was crazy enough to do anything.
"What kind of trouble?" he finally asked, his tone cautious.
She hesitantly took a step forward, her eyes pleading. "I want to overthrow my father. I need to take over the Russian Syndicate."
Damien let out a mirthless chuckle when he heard Alina.
"Are you out of your mind?" He sat down opposite her and arched his eyebrows at her.
"No. I’m serious. He fucking hurt the man I love. He has to pay. Look at you, Damien. You look like a walking zombie." She scrunched up her face.
"Tell me the doctors can fix that. I can’t walk down the aisle with you looking like that. I need you to look as dashing as Prince Charming."
Damien pinched the bridge between his nose and let out a frustrated sigh.
"I’m not going to marry you Alina. Never. Not today, not tomorrow. Even if I die I will never marry you." Damien seethed.
Alina’s eyes welled up with tears as she heard Damien’s words.
"What do you mean? I thought we had something special. I thought you loved me.
Why, Damien? Why won’t you marry me? Is there someone else? Have I done something wrong?" she asked, her voice shaking.
Damien let out a bitter laugh. "Love has no place in the mafia, Alina. Our world is ruled by power and loyalty, not by love. I will never marry you."
Alina giggle wiping her tears, "Oh please don’t give me that bullshit. If there is no love in the mafia then why are you and your brother both obsessed with one woman? I thought I knew you Damien. I thought you were the possessive type."
Damien stiffened, how did she know about this? No one knew about their arrangement except the three of them so how the fuck did she find out?
"What the hell are you talking about?"
Alina waved her hands, "Oh please. You don’t have to pretend with me Damien. I know everything. I know you both brothers are fucking her."
Her lips pulled into a smirk.
"I have to admit I’m jealous though. I could barely get one of you and my little good friend Beatrix has both of you." Alina sighed, picking up her glass of wine the table.
"What do you want?" Damien asked.
"You mean apart from you?" Alina smiled.
"Yes." Damien grumbled.
"Like I said earlier, I want to take over the Russia Syndicate. I want power."
Damien frowned, "Why? I thought you and father was close. The man gives you everything you want why do you want to kill him?"
Alina shrugged, "I’m tired of him. He is getting on my nerves."
"But he is your father. You’re going to regret it if you kill him."
"But it’s the only way for me to climb on the top."
Damien furrowed his brows. "So how do you want me to help you?"
"Marry me."
***********
Beatrix sat at the head of the table in the formal dining room, looking out the window at the beautiful gardens beyond.
The room was filled with the soft sound of classical music and the gentle clinking of silverware on china plates. Sarah, the maid, moved silently around the table, expertly serving each dish with a smile and a nod.
Beatrix glanced up as Sarah approached with a steaming bowl of soup. "Thank you, Sarah," Beatrix said, giving her a warm smile.
Sarah returned the smile. "Of course, ma’am. Is there anything else I can get for you?"
Beatrix shook her head. "No, this is perfect. Thank you."
Sarah nodded and continued to move around the table, serving the main course of roasted chicken and vegetables. The food was beautifully presented and smelled delicious, and Beatrix couldn’t help but feel grateful for Sarah’s attention to detail.
As she ate, Beatrix found herself lost in thought.
"Now that she had spoken to Rhys she was worried about who could have possibly brought her here. Sarah had taken the phone from her hands while she was still talking to Rhys and no matter how many times she had pleaded with her to let her continue talking to Rhys she had declined.
"They were keeping something away from her and no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t think of anyone who would want to hurt her.
Beatrix pushed her plate away, no longer hungry. She felt a knot forming in her stomach as she thought about the situation.
She trusted Sarah, but at the same time she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Who could it be? Why are they so nice to her?
She decided to confront Sarah. "Excuse me, Sarah. Can I speak with you for a moment?"
Sarah nodded and stepped closer to the table. "Of course, ma’am. Is everything okay?"
Beatrix took a deep breath. "I just spoke with my fiancé on the phone and I need to finish the conversation. Why did you take the phone from me?"
Sarah hesitated for a moment, her eyes avoiding Beatrix’s. "I’m sorry, ma’am. I was only trying to protect you. Young miss who brought you here didn’t want you to talk for long. She told me to take the phone two minutes later."
Beatrix’s heart started racing. "Why didn’t she allow me to talk for as long as I want." It’s like she knew they would be tracing the call.
Sarah shook her head. "I’m sorry, ma’am. I don’t have all the answers. I just know that she is keeping you here for your own safety."
Beatrix’s mind was racing. She needed to find a way out of this situation and get back to Rhys and Damien. She stood up from the table, determination in her eyes. "I need to leave, Sarah. Please, help me."
Sarah looked torn. "I can’t, ma’am. I have to do what young miss tell me. I’m sorry."
Beatrix’s heart sank as she realized that she was truly on her own. She needed to be smart and find a way out before it was too late.
