Chapter 64: You Will Live Here
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: You Will Live Here
Upon hearing there might be a chance, Gu Qili immediately leaned in and eagerly asked, "What are the conditions?"
She leaned so close that her breath sprayed onto his face, still carrying the scent of body wash from a recent shower, and her fair little face was flawless.
Mu Shuoqian was a bit dazed and didn’t respond immediately.
Thinking he was backing out again, she hurriedly pulled at his sleeve ingratiatingly, "Mu Shuoqian, quickly tell me what the conditions are, I’ll consider anything."
He held a cigarette in his mouth, his emotion-filled lips slightly pursed, gazing steadily at her.
Gu Qili quickly grabbed a lighter and lit the cigarette for him, her subservient demeanor resembling that of a lapdog.
Mu Shuoqian took a couple of slow drags before saying, "You have to live here until you graduate."
"What?" She clearly didn’t expect this condition. She had been used to living in the dormitory, where everything was convenient and, moreover, she didn’t have to see him every day. With his unpredictable moods, she really couldn’t cope.
Seeing her hesitation, Mu Shuoqian’s expression seemed to turn sour. He tossed the unfinished cigarette into the ashtray and coldly stood up.
"I didn’t say I wouldn’t agree." Seeing him about to leave, Gu Qili grabbed his hand, catching only two slender fingers in her haste, but she successfully kept him from leaving.
Frowning, she looked down at her own toes, "Then you have to agree to one of my conditions. Although I’ll be living here, you can’t meddle in my affairs. We should remain independent and respect each other."
He raised his eyebrows mockingly, flung her hand away strongly and left for the study without a word.
He must be angry because the sound of the door closing made her ears hurt.
Gu Qili rubbed her temple, confused about how things had developed to this point. What on earth made Mu Shuoqian want her to stay here—is she supposed to be his free housekeeper?
Isn’t he always hating her? Or, contrary to what she assumes, does he not disdain her and, instead, quite likes her living here?
Previously, the TV was showing commercial breaks, and Gu Qili suddenly realized that the shampoo commercial that Deng Feifei had endorsed switched to a new leading lady, who seemed to be a rising star, looking even more innocently charming than Deng Feifei.
Soon, she could hardly focus on these things, her mind full of Mu Shuoqian’s likes and dislikes. Since when had he occupied the leading role in her life?
Sitting on the sofa, Gu Qili ate the fruit he had ignored, switching the channel to an entertainment one, though her mind was half somewhere else.
Mu Shuoqian was staring at the surveillance on the screen when a phone call came in. He didn’t shut down the computer, pressing the speakerphone button instead.
"Young Master Qian, I’ve looked into the matter concerning the madam’s scholarship. It was canceled by the school."
Mu Shuoqian hummed a response. On the screen, Gu Qili shifted her position on the sofa, propping up one leg while resting the other on top, her foot dangling casually as she seemed relaxed and at ease.
"I’m negotiating with the school to quickly restore the madam’s scholarship eligibility."
"There’s no need."
Yuan Yi: "..."
"What I mean is, no need to restore it."
Yuan Yi’s job was to comply, and since he said so, he knew what to do.
"I understand."
Ending the call, Yuan Yi was still baffled; Young Master Qian’s intentions were becoming increasingly elusive.
Of course, he wouldn’t know that if Gu Qili had received the scholarship, she wouldn’t have asked Mu Shuoqian for money, and thus Mu Shuoqian wouldn’t have reason to keep her around.
So what rubbish scholarship, why bother restoring it?
