Chapter 98

"Melisca." Tyla eyed Melisca, who seemed to be in deep thought from staring on the ground. She knew the woman was shocked by everything she found out. "Melisca." She called again, not wanting to touch her.

At last, Melisca jerked out of her thoughts. She turned her head to the white-haired woman beside her. "Lorna already toured me around the place."

Tyla smiled at her. "No. It’s not the same as where Loriena showed you. Come on. And I suggest you better memorize everything you see." She felt like Tyla was giving her a hint or helping her silently.

She followed Tyla to wherever they were going. "You were the store owner of that boutique shop." She stated it out of the blue. She just couldn’t believe it.

"Yes. I am."

"Do they know about it?"

"Yes. It’s not a secret to the committee."

"You didn’t tell them that we met before." That was a statement.

"No. Why would I? You just happened to be my customer that day." Her smile was somehow reassuring and suspicious.

Melisca didn’t know what to think about the woman. She can feel that Tyla was out of place in the group of the higher-ups. Like she was a sore thumb. She stood out, or maybe because it was just her distracting white hair.

They walked further along the narrow pathway. She knew it’s morning, but the lights here were dim. The walls were off white, and the smell of wet urine from pests made her nose scrunch. Don’t they include this place in cleaning? They were surrounded by solid brick walls. She scanned every corner. There were no cameras she had seen so far. The place seemed different from the rest, and it was kind of secluded. And she also had a feeling that not everyone uses the hallway they were trekking, or at least not that often anymore.

"Where does this place lead to?" She held the folder in her hand tighter. Not wanting to let them fall on the dirty floor.

Then they stopped at a metal door. It wasn’t the same with all the doors that they’ve been through before. She can see the rusty sides of it, like it hadn’t been used or maintained for a long time.

"Shh." Tyla silenced her. "It’s a secret passage." She whispered at her. "This is another way to get inside the laboratory and the captive cells.

Melisca’s eyes bulged, and her ears must have been tweaked by hearing the word ’secret passage’. "Why would you show me this?" Her suspicion escalated.

"Lower down your voice." Tyla quietly screamed at her with a glare. "Can’t you hear that there are people inside?"

Sure. She can. There were people on the other side of the door. She heard murmurs, and if she strained more her hearing senses, she would be able to make up the words that were spoken inside.

Maybe the committee was testing her. They sent Tyla to do it. She won’t make such a mistake.

"What are we doing here, Tyla?" She whispered, going along with what the woman wanted.

"I told you we’re going on a tour." Tyla answered in a low voice.

"And by walking in this passage?"

"This was the fire exit a long time ago. But they erased this place when a captive almost escaped. They didn’t tell the trainees that there was supposed to be an escape route if an emergency occurred."

That information was too valuable to pass up Melisca’s ears. "And you were the one who caught that escapee. Lorna told me." She added to what the woman stated.

Her face turned grim. She doesn’t look happy at all to be reminded of that incident. "Yes. Luckily, I found out."

"How?"

"Now, Melisca, it’s a waste of time to explain it. I’d rather show you something interesting." Tyla turned around and faced the other door behind them. This one didn’t look any better.

Tyla glanced at her wristwatch and smirked at herself. It’s perfect timing. "9:00 sharp. The cell keepers were out after feeding the monsters. And at night. The same 9 o’clock sharp, the cell keepers were out as they put the monsters in sedation to sleep."

Melisca wasn’t sure why Tyla was mumbling those, but everything was useful. And it seemed like the woman knew what she was planning, and she was giving her instructions on how to do her suicide rescue.

"I would have opened it if I could, but it’s fucking heavy. Let’s head back and use the main entrance so they won’t get suspicious of how we got inside." She caught a glimpse of a wicked smile on her lips before Tyla turned around. "Oh! I almost forgot to tell you." Tyla swerved back and faced her. She tugged her arm, and she crouched down as the woman gestured for her ears. "There’s a tunnel behind that brick wall. It leads to a cave in the forest. Outside the mansion’s property." She pointed the solid surface far ahead. "It’s just a wall, but the tunnel over it is passable by anyone."

Then Melisca stood straight when the woman let go of her arm. She looked at her with furrowed brows. "Why are you saying these things to me? Isn’t it supposed to be a secret from the trainees?"

"You’re not a trainee anymore, Melisca. You’re part of the team. You should know it. But I suggest you keep it to yourself. Other members wouldn’t like to share it with the others." Tyla smiled at her convincingly, but she was far from being convinced. She won’t fall for that trap. "Let’s go."

Melisca was confuse as hell why the woman was doing this. But she kept quiet and just followed her.

They get back on the path that people go through most often and they entered another door using Tyla’s access card. "Just a tip, Melisca, if you ever do something stupid, better use other people’s card for access than yours. Say, you steal from any trainers. They had access everywhere." She glanced up at her with a mischievous smile. "But you better succeed in it for once you’re caught, well, it’s unimaginable." Tyla winked at her.

Melisca appeared unbothered by her words but she engraved everything on her mind. She looked around as people in a white lab coat roamed around. They were inside a more wide, functional and private laboratory.

Her eyes scanned the whole place, there were chemical containers bubbling at the side, a group of scientists gathered at a table they walked past, some were in different desk checking the test tubes under a light, and some using microscopes. There were various monitors and screens at the other side. Then, she saw some supernatural being locked at one side of the room.

"They’re under ABD that’s why they don’t have the strength to break through those cages." Tyla explained beside her.

They turned another corner and some scientists that gathered were looking above the monitor. On the screen, someone was on a table with cuffs and then she was sprayed by something right on her face. She was trying not to lose consciousness. And she stayed still as people in white lab coat opened her abdomen for whatever they were trying to do.

"That’s a werewolf. They’re experimenting on her body to see why they weren’t able to conceive a child with humans." Tyla stated as her eyes were glued on the screen.

Then on the next monitor was clearly a vampire. He was crouching in fetal position, trying to endure the pain from a light that was spotted directly on him. That light may be created to copy the sun’s heat. "And that one was a vampire. They were testing how long a vampire can stand their manmade sunlight. Poor one, he would die just to know their result. Tsk, tsk." Tyla even shook her head.

Melisca swallowed hard and withdrew her eyes from the screens. Nesa’s voice echoed in her mind. ’It’s horrible’.

Yes. It is. Is that what they would also do to me? Cut me open? Dissect like an insect?

Her hands clenched. How inhumane. They’re animals! She doesn’t like to see any more of the things they were doing. They’re lives, not meat that could be cut open anytime they wanted. And not a plant that was left to die under sunlight. How utterly monstrous for these human beings. She was seeing red. She wanted to burn on the spot anyone wearing a lab coat.

"Are you okay, Melisca?" Tyla asked as she noticed she looked pale and was about to collapse.

"Yes." She hissed.

Tyla knew she was lying. It was clear on her face. "Good. Because we aren’t done yet. We’ve yet to bring you to the most exciting part of the tour. The room of monsters, they say." It’s the room where they kept the supernatural beings the organization had captured for experiments.
