Chapter 87: Chapter 86

Chapter 86

"Hand’s off, Calixta." It was a simple statement. But filled with danger in its tone. "No touching." Ezekiel doesn’t want to be touched by people outside of his trusted circle. And a witch’s touch could be fatal if their skin was laced with poison.

Calixta wasn’t affected by his action. She instantly turned her eyes to Gandolf. "You brought someone with you. Finally understood that I’m dangerous for you to be alone?" Her eyes never leaving Gandolf. And his general did not back out of the staring contest with the witch. They both tower over her for a few inches.

"We both know you can’t touch me." He reminded her. It was in their agreement a long time ago that no one would know he was immune to the witch’s magic by the protection she put on him. It left a tattoo in his body as the barrier enveloped his mind and physicality. Even his trusted people didn’t know it.

"But I can touch him." Calixta’s eyes gleamed with excitement as she assessed Gandolf’s figure.

"I thought you preferred women than men." Zek grumbled.

"I can make an exception. Since it had been a long time that I hadn’t been with one. You wolves were a beast in bed. That’s the only fact I believed in your kind." She raised a hand to touch Gandolf, but the man instinctively grabbed her wrist before she could reach for his face.

Zek was about to stop Gandolf from touching the witch, but he was too late for that. His eyes studied firmly their contact, but nothing happened to Gandolf’s hand.

"See?" Calixta smiled at them. "I can be harmless to the people I want to be." She batted her eyelashes at Gandolf. "Do you have a mate?"

Gandolf let go of the woman as his stare turned dark and dangerous.

"Your king doesn’t want me. He may already have someone he likes. How about you? Care to have some fun? It could benefit you, you know. To have me on your side." She wiggled her eyebrows at Gandolf and gave him a seductive smile.

"Not my general. Not any of my people, Calixta." Zek warned, which made Calixta’s attention back at him.

"I’ll offer you a deal." Her eyes had a glint of something behind what she said.

He steeled a gaze at her. "No." It was a resounding disapproval. "I make the deal."

"No?" Her head tilted to the side. "You haven’t even heard it yet."

"Whatever it is, I know I wouldn’t like it. So, no." Zek moved in front of Gandolf to block him from the witch. It was a mistake to let his friends convince him to bring one of them. He should have thought better.

Calixta did not mind his reaction. She moved to the side to get a look at Gandolf again. "But what if he likes it?"

"No." There was an automatic growl in his disapproval. "Gandolf, wait outside." He demanded in a non-negotiable tone.

"But, alpha." He protested, but his body jolted a nod when Zek tilted his head to the side to give him a side glance. "I’ll be outside." There was a hint of stubbornness in his voice, but he complied nonetheless. He gave the briefcase to him before he sauntered to the door.

Zek waited for his general to get out before he spoke. "Let’s get to business." He walked past her and plopped himself down on a sofa, far away from the loveseat. He tugged at his necktie to loosen it.

Calixta stared at the door for a few seconds and exhaled a regrettable sigh before she withdrew her gaze and turned around to face the wolf king.

"You’re such a buzzkill." She commented and sat across the prudent man. She crossed her leg and arms as she leant back to the leather seat. "You won’t join my harem. He could be an alternative for you. One of my wishes was to have any of your people under me. Your race was one of the most dominant ones that I would love to dominate in my terms."

Ezekiel scrunched his nose at such an idea. He couldn’t fathom being dominated by anyone and anything, especially in carnal things. He shook his head and placed the briefcase on the table.

He opened it and took out the small case, which had the syringes inside. There was also a pair of chemical gloves ready from the briefcase. He opened the lid and propped it on the table for the witch to see.

Calixta leaned forward at the edge of her seat and reached for one of the syringes.

"Take the gloves for extra precaution." Zek warned sharply. That made Calixta raise a brow at him.

"Are you concerned, king of wolves?" Regardless, she took the gloves and put them on.

"I’m here to find a solution. No to kill you with it." He propped himself at the back of the sofa and put an arm sideways to make himself comfortable. "I don’t know what it’ll do to the witches. And I don’t want to find out before I have the cure."

Calixta snapped a finger, and suddenly the dimly lit room brightened by its white light. Zek had to blink from the sudden change of brightness in the room. His eyes took a few seconds before it cleared from the dark spots he was seeing.

Witches were powerful with their magic spells and other skills. There were a variety of them also that had rare other abilities. Despite their lack of superstrength and other enhanced senses, they were considered one of the most powerful races. But they were harmless to mortals. Their mojo wouldn’t work with humans without their consent. There wasn’t a real explanation why. It was just how it was from the beginning.

They were immortals as well. But their bodies and strength were as weak as humans. That’s why they solely depend on their powers and skills. Most of them were in a group to help protect one another from other beings. The Coven of Witches had the most enemies among other races. It had been since history and the Grim War was one of biggest factor of their hostile reputation.

"So, what do we have here?" She picked up one of the syringes and lift it under the lights to see the content more clearly.

"That’s called Anti-superno. A chemical that could kill supernatural beings if it enters our system. The hunters created it."

Calixta paused and put down the injection on its case. "That’s absurd. Humans kill supernatural with their poison?" She shook her head in the ridiculousness.

"It was proven by the deaths of my people."

Her head snapped back on his direction. It was known by everyone that wolves would highly go extinct if the population kept decreasing. They were already an endangered race.

There were no trace of playfulness in her features anymore. "Could kill supernatural beings, huh? Even witches?"

"I don’t know. And I suggest you don’t try it on you. Try it to someone you hate."

The grin was back on her face instantly. "Our queen."

"The queen is your sister. But that’s on you. Just don’t involve the Moon Empire in your crime. Careful not to trace it back on us."

She took off the gloves and tossed them on the table. "Anyone of the Coven will do."

The group of the most powerful witches was called The Coven.

"You said a solution earlier. Do you mean an antidote?"

"Exactly." Zek answered directly.

"Oh. This is quite huge of a deal." The wicked smile was back on her face. "What do I get in exchange? Though I have something in mind."

He was sure she meant someone, not something. "First of all, are you confident enough that you can create it?"

Her eyes turned into slits as her lips formed a thin line. "Are you doubting me now, your majesty?" She said it slowly like she can’t believe she was asking the question.

"I had to be certain, Calixta." He had to be. The lives of his people were at stake. He doesn’t want to sound vulnerable and desperate. Not as long as he can do something to save his race. The other half of him.

A moment of silence as Calixta was in deep thought. "I can. I’ll do it." She uttered and raised her head to look him in the eye.

"How long do you think you can create one? I don’t have much time. I need them ASAP." His heart raced for the answer. He was somehow relieved though that she made her words. He knew her. If she said she can do it. Then it would be considered done.

"That’s one thing I’m not sure. But I’ll make it top priority." She assured him with the look of determination in her eyes. "And now for my service exchange. Hear me out before you say ’no’."

Zek just raised his brow. He doesn’t like to hear it, but maybe she really had something else on her mind.

"Go ahead." He grumbled.

"I want someone outside. I want your general."

His forehead instantly knotted with a scowl on his face. He knew it. She didn’t want something. "No. He’s not a gift that can be exchanged."

"And you wouldn’t want to either. Can’t you sacrifice yourself? You don’t have a mate yet."

His face darkened all the way at the mention of a word mate. His teeth gritted. "I’m off-limits."

"That’s too bad. It’s all I want in return for the antidote than can save the lives of your people." She pouted in regret of his decision.

Zek pulled himself from the back of the seat and edged forward. "I have an offer you can’t refuse. How about I find your missing sister? Your magic can’t trace where she is. But maybe my resources can."
