Chapter 86: Chapter 85
Chapter 85
"Tell me, Lorwey. Why did you do that? Why did you let me assume the false victory?" Daisy asked as soon as Melisca closed the door behind her. They were inside the trainer’s office. There wasn’t much to see. Every desk had its own personal computer or laptop at the side. And she can see another glass-walled cubicle at the corner of the room. There was ’Head Trainer" printed on the placard and the name of that someone.
The walls inside were painted with ivory. The desks were uniform in size and color. There wasn’t much of a distance to the next table.
"Because I realized I don’t want to be senior yet." Came her honest reply.
That answer did not ease any contortion in the woman’s face. If anything, it worsened. "You think you had control over that just because you beat me?" Daisy leaned her ass in front of her desk and folded her arms. She can see the twitches of her jaw, how pissed she was about what happened, or maybe for confronting her.
"You can talk to the other coaches of my own standing after you leave. You weren’t there to witness my skills." She doesn’t mean to sound arrogant, but just stating the facts.
Daisy scoffed. "Oh, I already know. My colleagues couldn’t shut their mouths because of you. Even all the other trainees. You’ve proven that you’re not just a pretty face. But I also had this instinct that you were something else. I can feel it. Your strength and fast reflexes. They’re exceptional as a woman and for a human."
Melisca’s heartbeat picked up the pace as Daisy stated her suspicion. She could have overexerted her abnormality as the mortal that they thought she was. She tried to maintain her composure.
"Everyone goes through Dr. Vera before coming here." She had to topple that suspicion down before it spread through the other coaches and would like to have another test on her again. The truth drug was dangerous enough for her. And what more a blood test? That would reveal her identity. "Are you doubting her procedure perhaps? And Lorna was her daughter. They let Lorna befriend me." She didn’t have to say it all. Certainly, the woman already understood what she was referring to.
Daisy’s breath of anger was so loud that it could echo in the entire room. And it was also emanating heat.
"Can I take a seat if this would take longer?" Melisca chanced it.
"I see you have no respect over your trainers or at least someone who had a position here. Get out."
Gladly
. She wanted to argue at that, but her last two words were such a blessing at the moment. She did not waste any more breath in front of her, and she instantly turned around. She was almost at the door when Daisy’s voice rang out again."Don’t get ahead of yourself, Lorwey. If you are something else, no matter how skilled you are, you won’t get out of here alive."
Let’s just see. Melisca only nodded. If she retorted to that, it would only delay her awaiting nap. She twisted the knob and got out of there. She was guessing it wasn’t 5:00 pm yet, for there weren’t any other trainees around. Only housekeeping personnel who were carrying a housekeeping cart were lurking in the hallway.
She proceeded fast to her dorm and was currently under the shower. Daisy’s threat was nothing new to her, but it made her more worried about what could happen next. It’s her first day, and a suspicion was laid down on her already. She’ll think about that again when she gets her sleep.
After a quick shower, she had an urge to cut off her long hair to finish her blow drying in a few minutes. But that would be another source of suspicion if anyone saw her with short hair later, and then in just a week, it would grow back to its original length the first day they saw her.
It doesn’t make sense, honestly. She thought only the sirens and merfolk had that ability. There were countless things beyond explanation. Even their existence.
Finally on the bed, as soon as her head touched the pillow, her eyes closed and sleep took over. She sure hoped her exhaustion would reach her subconscious, rendering her unable to dream of anything.
**************
Evening came fast. Ezekiel and Gandolf flew into another city within the country. They went directly after the lunch meeting with the Jordas.
He got a text to meet his friend at some bar that evening. He groaned upon reading the message of her choice of place. It was an exclusive one, though. But the idea of entering with a sea of humans around was uneasy to him.
They were now standing outside the bar. Zek watched the neon signs above it. They were in the middle of the city. The busy streets were buzzing with people around. Winter was about to come as the chilly air sipped through his coat. He was still in his tailored suit. Gandolf was right behind him.
"Alpha, is this the right place?" Gandolf asked as he eyed the two-story building. There was doubt in his tone.
"Yes." He hissed. He didn’t like it the least bit. But since he was the one who had important business, his standing as a king doesn’t extend to the likes of the one he was about to meet. "I would rather for you to stay here."
"And my trip with you was useless if you left me standing outside." Gandolf replied without any qualms.
Ezekiel clicked his tongue. "Let’s just go." He stepped past into the line and stopped in front of the bouncer. He was taller than him though. He was buff with bulging muscles showing in his veiny biceps. The bouncer looked up at him with a hard gaze.
"Where’s your VIP pass? Only VIPs were allowed to get in immediately.." His words left hanging as Ezekiel stared to his eyes and the bouncer’s irises widen as the trance took effect.
"Let me in along with my companion this instant." His voice was low but the authority hangs in the air. Gandolf was looking around them, surveying the area. People were looking their way, especially the females. Their presence was magnetic to humans.
The bouncer nodded his head in confusion and stepped to the side to give way to them.
"Come on, Gandolf." Gandolf snapped his attention back in front of him instead to the people around. He followed his king then. "Stick close to me." Zek uttered when the door opened for them.
It’s still 9:00 pm but the bar was about to be full in a few minutes. The loud music from the speakers and yelling of the people from the band playing at the platform ahead made them both grit their teeth. They tried their best to drown out their extra senses. The sweat, perfumes, and all other kind of smell in the air was both intoxicating and disgusting at the same time. The flashing lights from the beams and disco ball were blinding and irritating to the eye.
Ezekiel took the led to get upstairs. To the VIP area. There were private rooms and he stopped at the one which the message said its number. A guard was standing outside. He was about to get in to ask permission to the occupant inside if they could enter. But Ezekiel compelled him easily to let them in.
The guard opened the door for them and they let themselves in instantly. Automatically, the noise was reduced inside the four closed walls. The room was dimly lit. Ahead, a woman settled on a wide loveseat was surrounded with other women, who were wearing fishnet stockings, high-heels, skin-clad outfits, and dangling earrings. Just a glance, anyone would think they were high-class hookers. They sat close to the witch’s side. As the other one was on her lap, feeding her something from the table.
"Alpha, are we in the right room?" Gandolf wasn’t ignorant in this kind of things for they lived a hundred years already, but they couldn’t be stumbling into one like this tonight.
"Yes. She’s the witch."
"Well, well, well." The woman directly across them in a few distance away spoke. "Why don’t you come closer?" Her voice was lulling enough to any guy but Zek was used to all the flirting voice of any women. Though what he was eagerly looking forward to was of Melisca’s. He grunted inwardly. He had to focus of why he was there.
"Did you already have dinner?" She held the woman on her lap by the hair, tugging it back so her neck would be vulnerable to anyone, exposing the throat on them. "She would be all yours." The witch traced the woman’s throat by a finger.
Gandolf glanced at Zek. Waiting for his king’s reaction. He can’t see his face as he was standing a step behind him. His figure remained immobile.
"I’ll pass." Zek answered. His voice was tight.
The woman pouted. "Your loss." Then she whispered to the woman and gestured for other girls to get out. They all stood up and left the room.
"Let’s get down to business, Calixta." Ezekiel then moved forward to the center.
Calixta pulled herself from the seat. She was on a tight black leather skirt, fishnet stockings, stilletoos, a blouse with three buttons opened, her cleavage wanted to get out from its constriction. Her tanned skin was shining like silk under the dimmed lights of the room. Her hair was in a messy bun that had stray strands covering the side of her face. A choker on her throat that made her slender neck sexier. The woman looked like a dominatrix in some porn movies.
She stalked closer to him and reached out a hand to touch his face. "What business are you here for, king of wolves?" She hissed the last word. It was breathy and needy for something else.
Gandolf was about to stop her from touching Zek, but his king beat him to it. Ezekiel eyed the witch with cold, steely gaze as he swatted her hand away before she can lay a finger on his skin.
