Chapter 74: Chapter 73

Chapter 73

"R-run." Melicia croaked. Her voice was hoarse. But she knew her daughter heard her just fine. She swallowed hard and tried to put conviction in her tone for her daughter to follow.

The girl was shaking her head. "Mom." Tears were tumbling down her face.

"Go to your daddy, sweetie. Go to him!" Melicia pleaded for her daughter to escape. "Go! You need to listen to me! Please save yourself. Run, Melisca. Run!"

Other people were running to barge in behind the two men. With the last look of her mom, she turned around and started on her speed. She might be a half-wolf, but she’s still a child, and there were a lot of men. Her mom always said that if she ever encountered a hunter that was about to hurt her, she should run and never fight back. Just run away from the big men.

She sprinted to the back of their kitchen and flapped the door open. It led to the backyard. As she looked back, some men tried to cope with her, and there were guns in their hands. The sound of their feet on the grass was crisp enough for her ears. Then she reached the concrete ground.

Bang!

She flinched from the sound, and that made her stumble on the ground. Her knees hurt and blood was oozing out from the open wound, but she stood up, determined to get away. ’I need to get to daddy.’ Tears were falling endlessly to her puffy cheeks. "Mommy." She uttered as she wiped her eyes to try to see clearer as the tears were making her vision blurry. "Daddy."

She continued to run and never attempted to look back to be faster. "Help! Anyone!" She tried to shout for help, but their neighborhood was in a private area. No people were hanging around the streets. She caught a glimpse of some people looking through their windows. "Help save my mommy!" They should have heard the gunshot. But they did nothing. They dropped their blinds and hid behind the curtains. Clearly not wanting to get involved. No one dared to help.

Her tears made her cheeks feel cold as the wind slapped her face. Her ragged breathing from worry and fear made her run as fast as she could with her little feet against the grown men who were after her. She sniffled from crying. "Mommy. My mommy." She wiped her eyes again from the blurry vision that she stumbled on the ground for the second time. But no matter how many times she fell, her body hurt from all the cuts and wounds she got, she did not hesitate to get back on.

She was panting with heavy breaths. "Daddy can save mommy." She said to herself. It was her only chance to save her mom. Another sound of a gun was shot in her direction. That sound startled her. The terrifying noise made her feet wobble, and she dove down on the hard concrete. She was thankful for it because the bullet was fired past her head. She rolled to the ground and winced from the scrapes on her knees and arms.

’Why does no one want to help me?’ The thoughts of a child. She whimpered and got back on her feet. "I need to get to daddy."

"Freaking little monster! She’s so fast!" Cursed by one of the men who were after the girl. They can’t get a perfect aim at her while struggling to cope.

"Back up, the hybrid was running on your way! I repeat the hybrid was going in your direction. She’s going to the highway. Block her before she gets on the public road." Another one of them radioed the second team that was waiting outside the private property of the subdivision. They paid money to the residents and securities around. An amount that they couldn’t refuse, and they were warned by the authorities not to take any action on whatever happens that day.

Melisca was near the exit. She noticed a suspicious van waiting outside. Her obsidian black eyes turned into the golden rings of a sun. She used her super vision to confirm what she was seeing. Men were standing with their weapons. She halted her run and looked for a different route.

The forest behind the subdivision was her only chance. She ran to that side, but there was a high concrete wall that separated the trees and the houses. She tried to jump, but she did not make it to the top. She grunted as she fell hard on the ground. Her ragged breath and shoulder-length hair were sticking to her tear-streaked face. She was exhaling puffs of air, and she braced herself for another attempt to jump the wall. If she could only get a hold of the top to pull herself. But then she still didn’t make it.

She winced as she rolled on the ground, and her arm was in total pain. It got dislocated from her fall. She knew her body would heal soon, but the pain from her injuries was just too much for a mere child.

She looked back, and they were coping up to her. She was not running anymore, so they nearly hit her with their guns. She crouched for a moment as she covered her ears from the loud splitting noise as their gun fired. Her eyes clenched, and she continued to weep.

"Daddy." She whimpered as another set of tears escaped her eyes. "Mommy." Her body was trembling with immense fear, exhaustion, pain, and hope for her family. For her mom to be safe.

"Mommy." Melisca’s eyes were closed but tears still managed to escape. "Daddy." She whimpered as her head was shaking and her body trembled. She can even feel the loud beating of her heart. It vibrated to her whole system. The dorm was fully air-conditioned but sweat trickled down her forehead.

"Liz?" Carmen called her name to wake the woman up. She was making the other girls agitated in her mumblings. Calling her parents with a whimper. "Melisca!" She gripped her arm to shake her.

Melisca automatically sat up and waved off the hand that touched her arm. Carmen was thrown hard to the floor a little distance from her bed. The two other girls who stood near Melisca’s bed were also curious about what was going on with her. They retreated a step with their widened eyes and looked at each other.
