The Runaway Huntress
Chapter 73 - 72

Chapter 73: Chapter 72

Chapter 72

An eight-year-old girl was sitting on her study table in her own room, doodling something on the paper. There was a grin on her face while she was moving her little hands, trying to be creative.

Melicia, the girl’s mother, was about to prepare dinner downstairs. Her husband would get home at 6:00 pm from work. She was in the kitchen. She reached for her apron, but before she could get it on, the sound of their doorbell startled her.

"Gosh!" Her hand was on her chest. She put down the apron at the back of the chair and proceeded to the living room to get to the door. She glanced at the wall clock. It was only 5:30 pm. Her husband usually gets home mostly around 6:10. ’Who could it be?’

Before she got to the door, she approached the window and took a peek outside. She saw a white car across the street. In front of the neighbor’s yard. She was very familiar with that coup.

Her heart instantly pounded loudly as her eyes widened. This time was different. They were not the same hunters as before. Then a knock followed.

"Melicia! We know you’re there." Called the familiar voice for her. One of her closest friends.

"Melicia. Come on. It’s us. We only want to talk with you." Another guy was calling her.

"You can trust us." Added the first one. "We’re best friends, remember? We won’t hurt your family."

Melisca was peeping from the top of the stairs and heard what they said. When the doorbell sounded, she quickly put down her pencil and slid off the chair. She got out of her room and was about to jump from the second floor to greet her dad, but when the guy talked, she stopped in her tracks and remained on the spot to see who it was. But she can see her mommy didn’t open the door. She knew it was the hunters again. Her cute, pale face turned grim. They were in danger.

Melicia exhaled a huge breath when she heard two of her closest and trusted friends at the door. They were the only ones who never hunted them, and as she knew, they quit the job already. She opened it for them and instantly hugged both guys together. "Danilo! Josh!" She exclaimed in happiness upon seeing them again. "I miss you."

They hugged her back. Melisca knew those faces from a picture her mom showed her.

In the photo, there were five faces of different people. Three guys and two girls. Her mom said that they were all best friends and always trusted each other. So, her face brightened up when she could finally meet the people her mother always talked about. Because her mom kept saying that not all hunters were bad and her best friends wouldn’t hurt them. She turned around to get past the railings and use the stairs to greet them instead of jumping from the second floor. She only does that with her dad below, knowing he would always catch her and she would giggle and shower him with kisses.

Her steps were in a hurry but also careful not to fall from the stairs. There was a grin ready on her face too.

One of the guys glanced at his companion, and the other looked back also. They nodded their heads in unison. Then Josh on the left pulled out something from his pockets and pressed the teaser gun to Melicia’s side, which instantly made her body spasm.

Melisca was on the last step of the stairs, and she jumped gleefully to the ground. She turned the corner to the living room. Then she halted on her steps as her eyes went wide upon witnessing her mom’s body twitching in their arms, and she was about to fall on her knees. "Mommy?" She uttered in shock, petrified on the spot.

’No. My daughter.’ Melicia instantly felt drained as the volts in her system made her weak enough that she couldn’t even stand on her own. But she had to fight no matter what for her daughter’s safety. With what little strength left in her, she tried to push the men away. But she was no match for the fully conditioned bodies of the two guys.

Danilo held her arm when she tried to get to her daughter. She hadn’t even taken a step, and she already stumbled on the ground.

She tried to get free and kicked his groin. It wasn’t that hard of a kick, but she did hit the spot. He winced.

"Bitch." He sneered in pain. Don’t make this any harder for us." Josh said and pushed her body down on the floor. Her chest even hurt from the hardwood.

"Traitors." She spat with as much hatred as she could. If only she could say that to them on their faces and spat with utter disgust. She wanted to make them feel how much venom it contained. Her teeth gritted in fury, for she knew that there wasn’t any chance that she could defend herself. She couldn’t fight back as Josh teased her side again, which made her twitch for a few seconds.

"No! Mommy!" Melisca was about to run to her mom, but Melicia managed to utter some words while looking at her daughter.

"Don’t." She stretched her neck to look up at her daughter, standing a few meters away from them. She shook her head at her. Tears fell from her eyes as she was begging silently for her not to come any closer. Both her hands were being held by a strong grip behind her. If she had to crawl to get to her daughter, she would.

"What an adorable girl she is." Danilo cooed upon seeing Melisca. Then he signaled their other guys outside to get to the little girl.

"Mommy!" Tears escaped from the eight-year-old child. Her body trembling with fear for her mother. "Don’t hurt my mommy." She was on the brink of jumping on her to get to her side but she understood what her mom was trying to convey.
