Chapter 63: Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Gandolf opened the door to Ezekiel’s office. His king permitted him to come inside when he knocked at the door. He closed it behind him and sauntered in his direction.
Ezekiel was still busy with the papers, but he allowed his gamma to enter the room. He did not spare him any glance. His entire focus was on the files he was reading.
Gandolf sat himself down in the chair in front of the working desk. He was waiting for Zek to finish the current document in his hand. The moment he looked up at him and propped the paper down, he sat up straight. Zek signed the document before closing the folder and putting the pen back in the pen holder at the upper-left corner of the table.
"What is it, Gandolf?" Ezekiel asked as he leaned back to the leather chair, but not before reaching for another folder. He crossed his leg to the other one, glanced at his general, and opened the document he propped on his lap.
A moment of silence before Gandolf opened his mouth. "It seemed like you had forgotten that there was supposed to be a meeting with the Jordas. Liam Jorda wanted you to officially meet his chosen successor to lead the company."
Ezekiel sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. With everything that was happening, he had certainly forgotten it.
"Do you want to delay the meeting again?"
"No. I’ll settle it all once. When was it again?"
"He suggested that it would be this evening if you’re available."
He paused to think about his schedule. "Make it tomorrow by noon. At his mansion. Before we go to the witch. Prepare the jet then."
The Jordas were the family he assigned to be the front of his company. He was using their names and identities to run his company all around the world. He can’t let his face be on the media about being a bachelor or the CEO of the Stavrus Construction Company, or SCC. He was the founder. And in public, Ezekiel Rawson Stavrus was already dead. Since he founded the company centuries ago. Even before he became king of the Moon Empire.
Liam Jorda, the current CEO, was retiring soon. And Liam told him before that his eldest daughter would be his successor. Only the person who would replace the position would know his identity. And that person would have to make a vow to him that he or she would never reveal the entire operation’s hidden boss. Aside from that, they would have a proper run-through of everything that should be done with his approval.
But aside from that, other wolves were working in the company. But they had to move to other branches before other people could notice that they hadn’t aged after so many years working with them. His company was open to other supernatural as well. There were vampires in some of his branches. If they stay out of their town and want to explore outside like the wolves are. However, the vampire court also had its own source of income to adapt to this world. In the new era, other supernatural races were more carefree and were living like humans do. But mostly for only a short time, and they get back to where they belong. Some find it stressful to be with humans and can’t fully be who they were with them.
It was harder for him, though. Because there were smaller packs around the world. He wanted to bring them together, to make them stay in a single town. But it would be more dangerous. In just one hell of a strike, they could be wiped out. So he thought it better to leave the packs as they were. He won’t change the way the former king managed all the packs. Every year he would visit them anywhere they were to make sure everything was safe, and they were led responsibly by the alpha he assigned.
"Alpha." Gandolf stated slowly. There was a bit of hesitance in his voice, but he had to open it up again. He leaned closer to the table.
"Say it, Gandolf." Zek urged his friend as he eyed him. He thought he could already guess what was on his mind. So, he closed the folder and placed it on the table, on top of the other files.
"About your mate."
And he was right. He stared straight into his eyes, daring him to say something that he wouldn’t like to hear. "What about her?"
Gandolf sighed and pushed himself to say his opinion. Since he was already there he couldn’t back out anymore. He already opened the topic also. "What are your plans for her? I’m never going to be against your decision about your mate. You were fated to be together. But that’s just one step. And you, being only part wolf, have the choice to accept it. Or not."
In the last word, Zek almost growled. His aura started to darken. And he had to control his emotions. His pack general was merely stating the fact. "I already made it clear earlier. I’m not rejecting her." He would never reject Melisca as his mate. He would embrace that fate.
"I know. But what I mean is, Argon said before that she ran away from you." Gandolf noticed the ticking of Zek’s jaw. His king surely doesn’t want to be reminded of that encounter. A rejection, especially for the pureblooded wolves, was too painful and traumatic. And that feeling would be on another level if you have alpha blood. "Since you had a conversation before. Why didn’t she come with you then? Why did she run away?"
Zek propped an elbow to the armrest and touched his face. His mind was struggling with how to find the words and where to start. But first of all, can he state that she was after them? That they were the total opposite of each other?
Sighing, he decided to keep to himself for now. "I can’t tell you yet, Gandolf. Everything was so complicated."
"But she was out there, alpha. You know the dangers of the hunters. And not to mention other races that could discover her existence. They would be after her also."
Zek palmed his face and grunted in frustration. He doesn’t have to be reminded of it again. "I know that, okay?!" His voice started to rise. "That’s why when I found her, I immediately ordered Argon to get her. But she wasn’t an easy prey. She survived on her own without any protection from anyone since her parents died. She was capable enough."
"But until how long, Zek?" Gandolf was being bolder now. It was for the sake of his alpha, anyway. He had to bring her home for her safety despite anything else. "Until how long can she fight for herself against everyone? She was even against you. And this should be kept from the other wolves for now. But we had to make them understand. And she had to try to get the rest of our people on her side. We could be against the world for this. I trust your judgement, Zek. Not just as my king but also from knowing you since the beginning. If you see her worthy of being your queen, then, as your general, your friend and ally, I can vow my loyalty to her as well. And protect her as our queen luna."
Zek’s rising rage somehow dissipated upon hearing such words from his general. There was another person who would willingly protect his mate as well. That he had an ally for this.
"And don’t mind Argon. We know him both. Regardless of what he said earlier, he would always be on our side. You’re not alone in this, Zek. I’m actually happy for you that you found her at last. Just not what we all expected."
"But I think I like this better. She’s not plain and boring." It automatically came out from his lips.
That made Gandolf’s brow rise and even smiled at his compliment. "See? You’re already whipped. And I never knew that was your type." He was grinning from his alpha’s suddenly shy stance. "Our great king was blushing not from anger for the first time."
"Oh, shut up." He covered his lips with his hands to try to erase the smile.
Another knock on the door and both turned in that direction.
"Come in, Argon." He said, he knew those footsteps so well every time he walked the corridor to his office.
Argon stepped inside with a folder in his hand, he closed the door gently before approaching their direction. He had spent a few hours summing up everything he found for the meantime in his task.
"Alpha, these were the people I found so far as Calicia Wymers. I deduced a lot from the list since they were too ridiculous to be Rullo’s granddaughter." He placed the folder on the table. "And, just, take a look at their faces first. You’d know."
Zek glanced up at him. His beta wasn’t meeting his gaze. "Take a seat, Argon." He wanted to talk to them to make their plans for the next few days. Now wasn’t the time that one of them was indifferent to what he wanted to do in the future. He needs his friends the most now.
