The Runaway Huntress
Chapter 62 - 61

Chapter 62: Chapter 61

Chapter 61

"Training camp? What training camp?" Her brows furrowed. "Are you serious?" She did not sign for any training camp. And besides, she thinks she doesn’t need it anymore. She had been to one before.

"It’s for training how to counter other beings." A short pause before Lorna said another word. "Obviously, you didn’t even open the signed document." She put down her own canned soda on the table and faced her body to Melisca, who had a thoughtful expression. "It was stated in the papers."

Oh, fuck. Melisca cursed inwardly. She should have read it before signing the contract. She was thrilled that she got in. So, whatever was in it, she did not heed anymore. Damn it. What a reckless move. She chided herself. She wanted to bump her head to a wall while cursing her stupidity. But then, she was so exhausted last night. And after finally meeting Ezekiel face to face, everything else on her mind vanished. He was the last thought she had before falling asleep.

"Well, I was waiting for you to elaborate them verbally." She replied despite her mind wanted to wander to that alpha king again. She got to focus with what Lorna was about to discuss. Clearing her throat to somehow get a hold of her own thought. "So, this training camp is about how to counter supernatural? Like, how to fight them?" Knowledge in advance is crucial for her, so that she would know what to do, and how to adjust with other people.

"Yes." Lorna answered directly while nodding her head.

"Was there a way to defeat them in a combat?" Her curious question. Maybe she can actually learn from these hunters’ way of training. Though for her there wasn’t any difference for she can be on par with their super abilities.

"We have hidden tricks. Because obviously, humans were inferior to their natural skills. They were far better in every aspect. So, we had to make ways for us to hold ourselves against them. Whether it’d be strengthening us, or weakening them. Or both."

Right. Like the Airborne Drug she encountered earlier. It can make a supernatural lost their enhanced abilities for unknown period of time. And luckily for her, she knew how to combat without depending too much with her wolf skills. She had enough experience with hunting her bounties before. It wasn’t a pleasant job at all. But of course, it was a bit of struggle for she can’t use her extra abilities at will. It was all new to her for her skills were limited.

"What do you mean by strengthening us?" That caught her attention.

"That, I would explain in the future. For now, we had to focus in doing the training activities." Lorna stood up and gathered all the empty plates. She piled them on the tray, along with the empty cans and brought them to the kitchen.

Melisca sighed. She never expected any training camp. She still can’t forgive her stupidity of not reading the document. The training she had before was quite helpful. Though it was a great factor for her fighting skills, but the journey she had was a total struggle also. She had to be self-conscious all the time. Other people might suspect her unusual strength, speed, healing, and everything in her being a part wolf. But most particularly was her blood. Someone might take a sample from her cuts and wounds, and she would be done. Her identity would be revealed. But she was already a step in. She was in the right path for her goal in finding out who were the leader of the hunters. Maybe she can ask Lorna. She’ll try.

Lorna was in the kitchen and started washing the plates they used. Her phone rang and vibrated in her pockets. She wiped her hands by the apron and fished it from her jeans’ pockets. It was Rico. She swiped it and held the phone close to her ears.

"Yes, Rico?" She greeted to the other line.

"Where are you right now?"

"In my apartment. Why?"

"Don’t tell me that your new friend was there." There was a hint of annoyance in his tone.

She glared at whatever she was facing. "Yes. We just got home from shopping."

"So, now, you two were besties already?"

"What’s wrong with that?" Her abrupt retort. She didn’t hide the irritation in her voice. "I can choose who I want to be friends with."

"But you are not choosing them wisely. You just met the woman. And yet, you were already bringing her to your place. For someone who works with the hunters, you are too trusting, Loriena."

Her lips formed a thin line as she kept quiet and let him finish all the warnings he had to say over, and over again. Which she ignored most of the time. Especially this time. She knew what she was doing, and everyone kept saying to her that her actions were wrong. She knew all of it and what they all meant. But this is her choice. To befriend Kaliz or Melisca.

"And now, you plan to get back to the camp with her? You never liked that place." Rico was still ranting.

She heaved a huge breath and turned her back to the sink, leaning her ass at the edge. She tilted her neck a little to the left, to peek at the living room. She can see Liz, who was leaning at the sofa, body in an inclined position. Her head was touching the leather seat.

Unknown to Lorna, Melisca can hear their conversation. Loud and clear. And she can feel the girl looking at her from the kitchen.

Lorna took her eyes from Liz. Her foot was tapping unconsciously, waiting for Rico to finish all his mumblings.

"Ric, I know what I’m doing, okay? And if Liz had any evil intentions against us, then I would be the first to know since I’ll be with her most of the time. She can learn to trust me."

Melisca snorted quietly. She stifled a chuckle that wanted to come out of her throat. She can’t help but smile though. Trust you? No one’s getting anything from me. Most definitely not trust. Lorna can offer her genuine or fake friendship. She doesn’t care. Her goal was what she was after. Nothing else. If she had to get along with anyone, to tolerate people around her, then she can do it. Just to succeed. She even turned her back to Ezekiel, what more about these people? Anyone else can just be pawns to her plan.

"But don’t be careless around her. Remember, she could kill a wolf on her own. And she had enough experience as a bounty huntress. You are no match for her." Rico’s unending warning.

"Ouch. You’re underestimating me, Ric." Lorna countered with a taunting hurt in her voice.

"That’s just the plain truth."

He’s right. Lorna knew in herself that she was never a great fighter. Her combat skills even against with humans were not that great. That’s why she preferred to be the distraction than a killer. Fighting was just never her thing. But she knew the basics and a few offenses and defense move. "I know. I know. And that’s why I’m going back with her to the camp. Can’t you just be happy that I plan to learn again? Maybe this time I would take it seriously."

"Why are you so hellbent on getting close with her?" Rico’s frustration can be heard from the other line. His voice was raising also.

That was something Melisca was curious either. Why was Lorna so friendly to her?

"I don’t know." Lorna shrugged her shoulders. "She was an interesting woman. It’s my first time to meet someone like her."

That was never the answer Melisca anticipated. Maybe she had other ulterior motives that she doesn’t want to tell even to Rico. Certainly, there could be something else. Just deeper than pure interest.

Rico exhaled loudly in the other line that Lorna had to inch the phone away from her hear.

"Are you kidding me? Just out of your fascination?"

"How many times could you meet someone doing a bounty-hunting job, huh? That was so cool."

"You can do it also if only you take your combat lessons seriously. And we were doing a hunting job as well. Just not with humans."

"Yeah. Whatever." Lorna huffed, wanting to end the conversation. She played her nonsense card, since Rico and everybody she talked to wanted to dismiss her when she acts like that.

"This is getting nowhere and you’re being childish again. You are not taking my question seriously." A resigned sigh escaped from his lips.

Lorna swallowed hard. "I already answered what you were asking. And if you’re not satisfied with it. That’s fine. But that’s all, Rico. And I’m hanging-up now." She did not wait for his reply and shut the call. She placed her phone on the dining table and glanced at Liz in the living room. She was in the same position earlier. The woman could have fell asleep. She can’t see her eyes though, as her face was tilted to the ceiling.

Whatever your reason is, I don’t care. Melisca had closed her eyes and let Lorna’s voice drown her thoughts. The girl won’t be the person to disrupt her goal. She would make sure of it.

Lorna hurried to do the dishes but more quietly as she thought that her visitor was sleeping in the sofa. After a few minutes of cleaning everything in the kitchen, she went to her room to get her duffel bag. She already stacked it with clothes last night for the trip.

Melisca was feeling a bit sleepy. When she sensed Lorna walking around and entering another room, she opened her eyes and glanced to the shopping bags beside her.

She opened them. There were new set of clothes and she transferred them to her backpack which had a bigger space for the album wasn’t in there anymore. Just one problem though. Her laptop. She blew a huge breath and then pushed her new outfits inside.

Lorna exited her room and was surprised to see Liz packing her own things in the bag.

"Would that all fit in your bag? Isn’t it heavy?" She asked, still at the door.

"Nah. I’m used to its heaviness."

"Did I wake you?" Lorna sauntered to her and placed her own baggage on the couch.

"No. Are we leaving now? Can I use your restroom for a bit?" She stood up, propping her hands to her hips.

"Sure. Just turn left to that corner and there’s a door there." Lorna pointed to a corridor.

"Thanks." Melisca mumbled and proceeded to that direction.

Lorna was sitting on the couch and stood up when she was done in the restroom. The girl had a bright glow in her face and a blinding smile of perfect small teeth. She was grinning from ear to ear.

"Let’s go!" There’s that high-pitched tone of her voice again. She was hopping in excitement and snatched the duffel bag. She continued to the door.

Melisca on her tow and grabbed her own things. She inhaled a huge breath, knowing she would be going to another battle of struggling to keep her true self hidden. Good luck to me.
