The Runaway Huntress
Chapter 131 - 130

Chapter 131: Chapter 130

Chapter 130

Melisca sprinted the hallways to the electricity room. She had known where it was when she pulled a map from the system. And she was right. The entire underground was a maze. The arena was the center and had the most space. Second was the facilities and the laboratories in one connected door. The Supernatural Room was right next to it.

And the secret passages that Tyla told her were nowhere in the map. She didn’t have time to figure out if she was telling the truth. She didn’t have much time for everything anyway.

Emergency lights were in corridors to another, but they don’t brighten the whole place. Just enough for human eyes to see the way, unnecessary for her.

She had to get to the electricity room. Their generators were also in there. No electricity, no life for the computers, no system to take control. It was her best plan so far.

She was rounding another corner. She heard the footsteps of the upcoming hunters. They had flashlights too as the white circles danced to the end of another corridor. It was either she waited for them to come her way or she met them halfway. She decided to do the latter. Time wasn’t on her side, remember?

Melisca stepped out from her spot, and before the walking hunters spotted her, she swiftly moved to one of them and elbowed him in the guts. She grabbed another hunter by his hair. She bumped their heads, which made them groan and wince. She released them and grabbed her knife from her waist. She slashed the lifeline in their wrists. And just a few seconds in, they were already lifeless.

"Who are you?" The two remaining hunters aimed their gun at her, but before they could pull the trigger, she kicked on her speed and appeared in front of them, slashing their throat. She doesn’t want to make enough noises yet. She couldn’t afford to alert everybody yet of where she was. She wasn’t even halfway in her plan.

The four bodies sprawled on the floor. She quickly resumed on her way. To the left was the last corridor to reach the electricity room. It was already opened, and people were making noises. Some were arguing over what happened, and the others were trying to fix the wires and connections.

She entered like she owned the place. Some looked her way and directed their flashlight in her direction.

"Who are you? What are you do—" The guy that was standing just a few steps from the entrance didn’t get to finish his questions, for she already sprinted forward and slashed his throat. She had tucked in her gun back to the small of her waist earlier. She was now wielding two knives in her hands. The others were caught off guard that it took them a few seconds before they moved from the shock.

Their expressions were so comical that they tugged a smile to her lips behind the mask. Though most of the hunters could have already seen her face, she wasn’t just wearing a mask to hide her beauty. It was as well to minimize the stench of death around her somehow and any other smell.

"We’re under attack!" Shouted one from the very back. Great. He’d just alert everyone in the room.

Without any more delay, she moved on to her next target. She had the advantage of everything. Speed, strength, reflexes, and of course, she was obviously a better fighter. These people weren’t hunters. They were electricians. Should she spare them? Nah. She’d try. If she heard them beg rather than fight or get in her way. She could just knock them unconscious. But up for their body to take her force, or it could make them comatose.

She can spot a few hunters by their uniforms. The electricians were in bright yellow jumpsuits.

One hunter held a phone by his hand. Her ear caught a ringing sound. Before the call could come across, she leapt up to him and slashed his wrist with the knife in her left hand. The phone fell, and the call was received on the other line.

"Hello—"

She stomped on the gadget, and it broke under her boots.

The man held his bleeding wrist, and he fell on his knees. He would probably die from blood loss. She moved to the next one, but there were already gun clicks around. They were aiming to shoot at her all at once. But no bullet caught her as she dived past one of the electrical switchboards that stood like refrigerators in rows.

Sparks erupted from the damaged holes.

"Stop shooting at the switchboards! You’re making everything more unfixable!" One of the men shouted at the hunters.

"She’s an enemy." Answered by one of the hunters and continued shooting. She pushed the switchboard that she was hiding from to make it more—well—unfixable.

Everyone retreated. More sparks were erupting with tiny explosions. She moved to the next one and tumbled them down to the other. Her ragged breathing and the shouts from the men made her more eager to strain on her speed and strength together. There were another lot of switchboards from other rows. God. She wished she had a grenade with her. Yeah. So much for keeping the noise down. She wanted to roll her eyes at that.

Her arms started to hurt from tumbling down the electrical switchboards. They weren’t that quite heavy for her but just so many. She started to use her foot then. Some men started to chase her down the aisle with their guns. She leapt in front of them, squatted down, and did a low back kick on their foot. It was one of the advantages of having long legs. They all tumbled down as she swept them by her foot. She quickly slashed their throats with her knives and sheathed them back to her waist to pick up two guns from their hands.

It was also her luck that the hunters didn’t carry ABD with them. The supply was scarce as she knew. She was just thankful for that. It wouldn be harder and maybe a bit impossible for her to finish the first stop of her mission. The conference room. She half expected that since they were senior hunters in the HC team, they had a bottle of ABD in their pockets. But they didn’t. It could be that it was only given when they were on the field, hunting outside.

She leapt to one of the still standing switchboard and aimed her guns to the circuit breakers that her eyes could see. The electrical men were crouching down on the floor, shouting curses and pleas to spare their lives. She didn’t pay them any attention. But she shot as well to the remaining hunters. There were only two left and she finished them.

It was sparks and explosions everywhere. The fog of smoke was getting thicker.

"Get out! We’ll explode in any minute!" That same voice that she heard earlier stopping the hunters shrieked. He lead the others out of the room, shoving them to the door.

She jumped off and landed gracefully like a cat. She threw the guns that she was holding and moved past the dead bodies and when she was nearing the door, the yellow uniformed men scampered away from her. The leader’s face was stricken in fright as he stared at her. She was strutting and the rest gave her way.

"Thanks." She patted the brave man that was saving his subordinates out of the room. She wanted to laugh in his reaction but she already started on her way to the next stop that she was about to go.

As she ran through another set of corridors, she heard more quick footsteps.

"Ready your ABDs." One of them tried to hiss in a low voice. But, sadly for them, and fortunately for her, she heard him. And she won’t be going to face them. She turned to the way where Tyla led her before. The hunters’ footsteps were growing faint as she walked deeper to the darker corridor. She adjusted her vision since there were no emergency lights in this area.

She knew her eyes were now glowing like a beast in the dark. She could hear her own breathing from the narrower passage. The smell of wet urine attacked her nose again. Her nose scrunched. She moved swiftly to the door that was connected to the storage room. Tyla said that it was unused and was blocked from the inside. It would lead to the supernatural room. She halted for a second. Wait.

If I get in there directly, I would be contaminated by ABD.

"Shit!" She hissed. But then, she couldn’t go the other way. There would be a lot of people and she’d be facing ABD as well as lab scientists and doctors were hanging around.

There really wasn’t a perfect plan. But it was better than no plan at all. She proceeded to budge on the rusty door. She’ll think of something when she got to the other side.
