Chapter 129

"B-but what about them?" She looked back at the other trainees on the platform. She couldn’t see them clearly from the faint glow of the emergency lights.

"Hold this for me." Lawrenz ignored her question and just pushed the flashlight into her hand. She directed it to the door that he was struggling to open. The metal door was covered with thin dust, and her father was trying to lift a thick piece of a long bar that was keeping the door inaccessible.

"Where does this lead to?" She asked curiously. He grunted, and the bar finally budged, and in one forceful move, he successfully removed it and gently placed it at the side.

"You’ll see. Step aside." He nudged her out of the way as he held the dusty door handle. She could almost smell the dirt, and dust flew around, dancing in the ray of light. She waved a hand in front of her to not inhale the dusty particles that would make her sneeze.

Lawrenz pulled the door with full strength. It was creaky and quite heavy. As it opened, a pungent smell greeted them. Squeaks of rats and other crawling creatures scrambled away from the light that intruded on their hideout. The odor of animal urine and musky air of their shits attacks their noses.

"Eww. Are we really going in there?" She shivered from the idea. And it was complete darkness. No emergency lights. She turned off the flashlight in her hand, afraid of what she might catch in the light. A ghost, or something else. The horror movies that she’d seen flashed in her mind.

"Come on." Lawrenz took the flashlight from her and grabbed her forearm as they entered.

"No." She pulled herself from his grip that made him stop from entering. He looked at her with an impatient expression. "I’d rather stay and look for Liz. She was out there. I want to get to her." She almost unconsciously stomped her foot on the ground. It was childish, but she doesn’t give any more thought about it.

"Are you crazy?" He said incredulously. Wanting to strangle his own daughter. He’d never understand why Loriena like the girl so much. "That girl can obviously take care of herself. She can even handle a supernatural on her own. And Josh is with her, along with the other hunters."

Still, it doesn’t bode well for her that she’d left her friend and evacuated to safety. She continued to protest, but Lawrenz had no problem dragging her inside and closing the door behind them.

Carmen stood in the middle of the platform. The crowd gathered around her. Trainees pulled out their guns and knives, and some even had the bows and quivers in their backs. She tried to push the bodies touching her as she looked around the arena. Scanning every dark corner. She narrowed her eyes at something that moved at the side of the bleachers. It was near the restroom. She caught a glimpse of a flashlight. Without taking her eyes off that spot, she started to move and push anyone on her way to get to the edge of the platform.

People were blocking her way, but she continued to wriggle past them, determined to get out of the center. Coaches announced they all should be ready for any danger that could happen since they were trained to face it. She didn’t put their advices at heart. She can actually manage her own.

When she finally broke free from them, her eyes caught nothing more from the shadows. She snapped her head to the other corners. There was nothing there. Not even any movement. She can see in the dark as one of her many natural attributes. Her gray metal eyes almost shimmered in her strain of ability to use. She clenched her eyes shut and twirled around to scan the crowd.

And she knew two people were missing. Loriena and her dad. It was them who escaped from that corner. She sighed and jumped off the platform, going away from them to the restroom or anywhere that won’t see her.

"Where are you going, Fariss?" Gea directed a flashlight at her as she approached her.

She stopped in her tracks and looked at the other trainer. They had the same hair but Carmen’s shade was darker. The trainer’s eyes were of blue while hers were stormy gray. Others even said that they had some resemblance. Yep. She can see that they had the same face shape and cheekbones.

Hmm. But I’m much prettier. She smugly concluded.

"Get back in the circle." Gea stopped in front of her.

Carmen raised her hand, lined it to Gea’s eyes sideways. Like attempting to cover her eyes.

Gea stilled in confusion, and then after just a few seconds, she swatted away Carmen’s hand from blocking her view. "What are you doing?" She blinked. Carmen was nowhere in front of her. She looked from left to right and right up ahead. But the girl was gone. She couldn’t just vanish when she had touched her hand to remove it out of her sight. Her brows furrowed in confusion. Was she just seeing things?

"Gea!" Her oh-so-sweet nemesis called. Daisy. "What are you standing there? Get to the other side!"

"Why don’t you do that?" She snipped back with equal sharp disdain as she turned around and got back closer to the platform.

Carmen didn’t turn invisible in front of the coach. She’d just gotten resourceful with her glamour to trick her. She made Gea see no one in front of her. Just the usual dark corners and bleachers around. She was still in the sight of her vision but she wasn’t seeing her at all. It’s just a trick of the eye.

She moved to the dark corner and thought of the hallways outside the arena. A dark vortex appeared in front of her and she allowed herself to be swallowed in it. She couldn’t just let Melisca Lorwey have all the fun.

She should have signed me up on it. Tsk!
