Chapter 123

The queen glanced in the direction of his brother and the king. The two were still talking about plans for the hunters in their own country. "There were some attacks that killed vampires outside the city. Laia volunteered to join the investigation. Hunters were involved, and some of the keepers suspected her of having the knowledge of what it was about. Your father made her talk."

"Actually, we were disappointed that you didn’t tell us about it sooner. We could have warned those innocent vamps." Drendall had bitten her lower lip, then she looked back at him. "But we understand. You don’t really like being a vampire."

"No." He abruptly countered. "Don’t think about that." His conscience was gnawing at him too. It was his fault. It was selfish of him. But the deed was already done. And yet he would make another selfish decision soon.

"You’re now the Wolf King. You chose them. The moment you had the throne, you never looked back to us." Drendall’s voice was rising in utter dismay. It made everyone look in their direction. Even their other family that was talking halted and curiously turned their attention to them. "You don’t care about us anymore. You never visited! Not even once for almost a century! You didn’t even warn us! What other reason could there be?!" Then she turned away, storming out of the room.

Ezekiel was left astounded as he only followed her by gaze. He wouldn’t be able to make her understand or anyone. Not unless he would mention Melisca, and that would only bring her towards death. He could never allow it. He would never allow it. He would be selfish and all just to make her safe from anyone. And he wouldn’t give a damn care who he would be against. They belong to each other, and he would make that happen. Even if the world was against them.

There was nothing much of a difference between them. They were both hybrids. An abomination that shouldn’t have happened. He should have been dead before he was born, but her mother refused to abort him. Ezra, his mother, protected him from everyone who wanted him dead, even from his own father.

He sucked in a breath sharply and realized that Estrella held his arm, comforting him. "Pardon your sister. She just misses you a lot. And she’s upset that if this didn’t happen, you won’t even come here voluntarily."

He took her hand away from him and squeezed it. "I’m sorry, stepmother."

The queen nodded. "Don’t worry. She’d understand these things in the future." She looked past him as one of the keepers stood behind Zek.

"Pardon the interruption, Your Majesty and Your Highness." The male vamp said with head bowed. A hand across his chest to the left shoulder. "One of your men said to deliver this to you." He handed him the black drawing tube, where the blueprint he drew was stored safely.

"Thank you." Zek reached for it, and the vamp scooted away.

Most of the vampires were bothered by his presence too, because of the wolf inside him.

"Zek." Dravin called and approached him. He was thankful, though, that Karlyle remained at a distance from him. He moved to his wife’s side.

"Ezekiel. I’m glad that you haven’t lost your touch." Karlyle commented and smiled smugly at him.

Zek never stopped wondering why he got all the features of his father. The same eyes, nose, lips, face shape, and everything. He was like a carbon copy of him. It was why he doesn’t like facing a mirror most of the time. It seemed like the only thing he had from Ezra was her wolf blood.

"Zek, let’s go to my office." Dravin stepped to his side and held his arm. "Please excuse us, mother and father. We have business to discuss." He dragged him away from their parents.

Dravin did the right thing before things got more heated between the father and son tension. When they got out of the court hall, Dravin exhaled a sigh of relief. It was suffocating to stay in a room filled with extreme auras by each race leader. He stretched his neck and massaged it for a bit to relax the muscles.

Zek glanced at him. "Are we just going to stand here?" He asked. Vamps passing them were giving them a curt nod and greetings.

"Let’s go." Dravin ignored his words, and he followed him.

As they walked down the halls, Zek refrained from sightseeing on the way. It hadn’t changed much anyway. Only the draperies for the winter season. It was baby blue with a snowflake design in every window they passed by. He liked seeing those as they resembled the color of the sky and snow. He hated to admit it, but he missed the place. The castle. The warmth from his siblings and stepmother.

But that’s just it. They don’t age, but the world and everything change, and they had to adapt to it.

They finally entered Dravin’s office. It wasn’t as messy as he thought it would be. His files were organized. And there were only a few papers around.

Upon entering, Dravin took off the crown on his head and placed it on the mahogany table. For his cape, he tossed it on the sofa. "Please take a seat." He went straight to the mini fridge and took out two blood bags that were smoking cold.

"I won’t stay long." Zek remained standing.

Dravin threw at him one of the bags and sauntered to the lounge area. He plopped himself on the sofa, sitting beside his cape. He twisted the cap open and sipped its red content.

Zek sighed and moved to the lounge seats. He sat across from him. He tossed the drawing tube to Dravin and he caught it fairly before it reached his face. His younger brother glared at him. "I’m feeding!" He exclaimed.

"I’m not blind." Zek shrugged his shoulders and opened his own bag to fed himself. It was human blood. Not mixed with anything. His eyes turned red for a second for recognizing the pure taste of their main nutrient.

They first finished their drinks before Ezekiel started talking. "That’s the blueprint and the design that I expected to see."

Dravin opened the tube and took out the papers and spread them on the table. The two talked about the design and business further.

After some time, they finally finished it and both stood up from their seats.

"I’ll send it to the company once I’m home." Zek said.

"You’re home." Dravin unconsciously commented which made Zek roll his eyes. He roamed his gaze around. "I seldomly bring work here. Mother doesn’t want me to work if I’m home. She wanted to bond when Drendall and I visited."

That made his eyebrows quirked up. "She doesn’t live here anymore?"

Dravin was returning the drawing to the tube. "Nope." He replied with a heavy sigh. "She’s working at the capital. She’s in VLAD."

"What? You’ve gotta be shitting me." Of all the things he’d thought his sister do. It was the most shocking that he’d heard.
