The Runaway Huntress -

Chapter 121: Chapter 120
Chapter 120
The witch queen waved her hand. Wisps of white smoke came out from her fingers. She whispered something of a spell, and the item floated in mid-air, out of the box. She raised it up against the light of the chandelier above, examining the content. The liquid shimmered. Everyone raised their heads and brows furrowed in observation.
Queen Aradria sat her jaw tightly as she bit her lips and her nostrils flared. She inhaled through her mouth gradually. She returned the syringe too quickly. When it finally rested back on its cushion safely, she waved her hand out and turned around in a snap, walking away from the circle. Her fists clenching and unclenching. Black fog started to whirl around her.
She paced back and forth as the others retreated from her, even though she was already at a distance from them. She was used in all their contempt of the witches. From what her ancestors did, especially to the shifters, namely the wolves. She couldn’t blame them. She would hate the former Coven Council as well. For over the years, since the Grim War, she tried hard to stay out of the other races’ way. She raised the new Coven since the late queen died by her hands, and she fought the council under her to end their cruel ruling.
And now, her hard work had gone to waste from what she discovered in the poison.
"Forgive me. It’s just so unbelievable that this could really kill a supernatural." Reth’s unbelieving statement made half of everyone’s attention turn to him. "Can we sample it?" All heads were now on him.
"Are you insane? Would you like to volunteer then?" King Oleo, with his trident in hand, was standing next to the fae. He had a musky scent of sea salt. They were just all thankful that he doesn’t have the smell of a pungent fish, which Zek doubted if the Blood Queen would let him in in the closed walls with other supernaturals who had keen senses. They would all likely suffer from it. His men stayed behind the throne seat he was sitting on.
Ezekiel glued his eyes to the pacing witch. He was about to ask her why she reacted like that. There could be something that she wasn’t saying.
"The fae is right." Aradria quickly snapped out of her rage when he sensed the suspicious stare of the wolf king. She had to act normal and find solutions to the problem later.
"Are you doubting the death of my people, Queen Aradria?" He couldn’t believe that the witch could say such a thing. And his gaze shifted to the fae. He moved forward. Reth retreated a step along with the people near him. But Zek just reached for the syringe and closed the box.
It gave him satisfaction that Reth’s eyes bulged and mouth slightly agape in horror.
"King Ezekiel." Aradria called his attention as she sauntered back to the circle. "I’m not doubting that the content of that syringe..." She eyed the box in his hand and looked back up to him. "Could kill a supernatural. But what I want to see is how it works."
"Yes!" Reth seconded too quickly. His voice sounded like a squeal. "That’s what I meant earlier." His head nodding incessantly.
Ezekiel wanted to shake his head at the fae’s indignant manner. And a thought came to his mind if he was the same person the Faeri King sent as his delegate to attend the council meetings before. For him, Reth wasn’t doing a great job.
"This is the last syringe that I have, Queen Aradria." Zek responded to the witch.
"Can we spare just a teeny tiny drop from it?" She even gestured with her hands in a close pinch. "Then we can give it a go to someone." She looked at King Karlyle and Queen Estrella, who were now seated back on their thrones on the platform. "I’m sure the vampire majesties had someone in their dungeon that is worth killing for."
People slowly returned to their seats except for Ezekiel and Aradria. Everyone agreed with the witch’s suggestion.
"But I’m the only one touching the needle." He announced. There was too much mistrust in his words, but everyone understood.
"Of course, Wolf King." Aradria nodded and did a curtsey at him. She was dressed like a noble lady in a kingdom. She was a queen in her own kind anyway. Then she returned to her seat. Her spot was right across from him in the other row, facing them.
Queen Estrella ordered one of their servants to fetch her a clean vial bottle to use. In just a short moment, Ezekiel was given the extra tiny glass vial with a cork lid. He took out the syringe again and excreted a small amount of the poison into the bottle, holding his breath while doing so. In just a few seconds, he closed the cork lid and tidied everything on the table. He put the vial in a resealable bag and handed it over to Drasco. To keep it secure and out of anyone’s reach.
King Karlyle called one of his keepers to bring their latest crime suspect that was kept in the dungeon tower. In the castle, the vampire dungeon was in one of the towers, where a sun would light the cells, and vampires stayed weak from exposure. Being in the dungeon was already a torture.
After a few minutes, a shackled vampire was assisted by the keepers. Surprisingly, it was a female vamp. She glared at everyone and struggled in a futile attempt to get free. Her fangs bared and eyes crimson red. She had gone feral as red veins crawled up from her neck to her face. A vampire can lose their rationality with mostly the extreme feelings of anger in them. The same as wolves going rogue.
A servant lifted the table to the side and the keepers dragged the woman on the center. Her sweatshirt was tattered, showing pale white skin. Rogues couldn’t be compelled as their mind was in total shutdown for any sane mentalities. But there were instances that it could be still effective for a very short time and only someone with extreme power can do it.
The keepers were struggling a bit to hold her down on the red carpet. They were forcing her to stay still.
"What could be her crime, if you don’t mind me asking, Your Majesty?" Raindel asked politely.
"Drendall." The king uttered to his daughter, giving her a signal to explain.
Drendall cleared her throat before speaking. "She compelled a human male. And asked him to break up with his girlfriend. He refused. Then she killed her. She was about to turn the human into one of us. We caught her in the act. That’s it."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Raindel shook his head. "Using compulsion for affection is a nasty thing."
Ezekiel’s lips quirked up to the sides from hearing such comment. The elven king certainly hit the spot.
"Do what you can do, King of Wolves." Karlyle gestured his palm to the woman.
His smile vanished as his lips formed a thin line. The king was intentionally making him do what he doesn’t want to do in front of the others and especially to him.
The keepers were now having a hard time to keep the woman down. Her madness was doubling her strength. She was ready to bite the vampires that were pushing her to kneel on the ground and the chains were barely able to restrain her hands.
