The Runaway Huntress

Chapter 119: Chapter 118

Chapter 118

"We don’t know that for certain, Coven Queen." Zek’s expression was one of disdain. He wanted to tone it down, but he never liked the rest of the witches. "The hunters were relentless in their experiments." He doesn’t want to make everyone panic, but sugarcoating things wouldn’t help either. They just had to face the truth. Especially him that he kept it from them. He should be prepared for their wrath.

"I still don’t understand why you hide it from us, Wolf King. It’s a threat that everyone should be alerted to." King Oleo of the Mers expressed his rage as he tapped his trident twice on the floor, which made an echoing sound in the room. Heads turned at him. Everyone was on high alert in their seats.

"The threats of the hunters are never changing, Ocean King. Despite being humans, they have their own strength in numbers, and we shouldn’t finish them all." Ezekiel explained, determined to make everyone see his point. "But I also want to apologize for keeping such information. I have a team that was doing their best to stop these hunters. But, at the moment, they are on hold, for we can’t attack them without a counter of their poison."

"How could the humans create such a formula?" Bryar, the Gargoyle King, asked. "Humans couldn’t have done it without a hand from any of us." He roamed his eyes around the room, to each of the representatives. The Gargoyles were one of the mythical creatures. Each shifter had different animal faces and bodies. The only common thing with them was that they had horns and batlike wings. But they all had grotesque faces in their shifted form.

Most people in the room eyed the direction of the witch.

Queen Aradria waved her hand and laughed at their faces. "Seriously? Why would we let the humans do our biddings if we so want to wipe you all?"

"Why not, Witch Queen?" The fae countered without any hesitation. "If you are so desperate to use underhanded tactics—"

"—I’m not like you, faeris." Black smoke started to get off the witch’s fingers. Everyone made a retreating move from their seats. Ezekiel stayed still.

"Alpha." Drasco made a forward move, ready to defend him if the smoke reaches their direction. Ezekiel made a gesture for him to move back to his place. He had to be the one to protect them, for he was immune to the witch’s powers.

"Trickery is in your nature." Queen Aradria wasn’t finished yet. Then she opened her palms. The black smoke got sucked back into her skin. "Are you all that threatened by my kind?" She gazed at them one by one. Her eyes stopped at Ezekiel. "The Wolf King doesn’t even look afraid of me. Though it was his race who we’ve fought face to face in the Grim War."

"He wasn’t even born yet in that time." King Karlyle interjected, getting the attention back to him. "We have an agenda for this meeting. Our main topic is the hunters. Not any of our grudges against anyone. What we need is action to prevent them from killing supernaturals."

The Coven Queen grunted. "Why can’t we just wipe them out all at once?" She received everyone’s glare. "Oh, right. They’re essential to most of you. They balance the food chain."

"I hate to agree with that." Bryar uttered.

"They balance everything." Queen Estrella commented.

"I think, right now, the most important thing is to have the cure for this poison." Karlyle gripped and pulled back to the main topic.

Ezekiel shook his head. At every point, their main agenda kept on straying to unnecessary comments.

"I had someone do it. I’ll be done in a few days." He wanted to get away from revealing who he had assigned it.

"Who? We had to make sure that everything should be settled as soon as possible, King of Wolves." Raindel demanded. "They could have my son. And you may not know how dangerous he is if they take advantage of him. He’s of my blood. A royal."

"We understand, King Raindel." Estrella nodded to the elf’s direction.

"Why didn’t you tell us sooner that your son went missing?" Mer King Oleo asked calmly, but there was also accusation in his eyes.

"You all keep to yourselves. And I know anyone if you wouldn’t dare hurt my son. My race. We are neutral. And we don’t want to get involved in any of your war." He stated. "We are trying to do our best to search for him. He’s alive. We can feel it. I can feel it. Or the nature would mourn with us. But he’s out of reach."

"Well, I’ll ask my subjects if they stumbled with a pointy-eared, white-haired male. Unfortunately." Oleo meant the fishes and any other aquatic creatures he had under his command.

Raindel squinted his eyes at him. "My son knows how to swim."

"That’s a great relief then. At least the chance of him floating in the sea was slim."

"Humans are weak in body. But their minds and how they think are exceptional." Ezekiel had to get the conversation back on track. "I don’t know how they successfully created the Anti-Superno. They could have a mastermind behind their formula. But an antidote is what we needed now the most before they can put their poisons to any supernatural. I’m not sure how fast the effect is with the other races. But it is lethal."

"Their poison already reached here in Rusland, Ezekiel." Karlyle pointed out. "That’s why I ordered for this meeting so that all the other kinds would be informed. Laia was in your country for a while. And I can sense that she was lying so I had to get the truth out of her."

"They could reach anywhere in the world, father." Drendall spoke, wanting to defend her brother. "And we don’t know for sure about its origin. The hunters are worldwide."

Ezekiel felt his heart tugged for his concerned family. He should have visited his siblings. He shouldn’t had shut them completely from his life. But he made a choice to be with the wolves. And he hadn’t forgiven his father yet for what he did.

"She’s right." Dravin seconded.

"Is this turning into a family drama now?" Queen Aradria interjected, standing up, nodded at Dravin and Drendall. "Pardon, your Highnesses." Then she looked at Ezekiel. "We haven’t heard who you’d assigned for the cure yet." She sat back down, eyes locked on him.

He was contemplating to reveal Calixta’s involvement. She and the queen aren’t clearly aren’t in good terms. But then, she didn’t warn him of anything to hide their connection. And he wanted it to remain in the shadows as well. But everything had to come to light when it was pushed to it. They would only press the matter and may make their own way to find out.

"Does it matter?" He was risking it. "What’s more important is that the cure would be available in a few days."

"Okay. It could be created soon, but how about reproducing it so it would be enough for all the people that could be poisoned." The witch wouldn’t back down and he hated that she was right.

"We had to work together for this, Ezekiel." His step mother joined in.

"Can we really trust the witches?" Bryar didn’t hide his reluctance.

From what Ezekiel knew of the history of the Grim War, the gargoyles and the other shifter packs, fought together with the wolves against the witches and vampires. All the shifters were always side by side.

"I can help to make the cure faster." The Elven king volunteered. "I’m willing to lend a hand whether they got my son or not. But you all had to help me in return."

"King Raindel." Karlyle opened his mouth again. "The Blood Court would give you the assistance you needed for the search of your prince." He announced.

"The Moon Empire would give you a hand for that too, Elven King." Ezekiel offered. It was the least he can do. Although he doesn’t want to think about it but the Elf Kingdom were in the same country as his. So, there was a high possibility that the hunters had their hands on the prince.

The king’s face slightly softened. "Thank you." He nodded to them.

"I can have one of my people look for him with his specialty." The witch queen stated. "Up to you if you want to. If you can lay your pride down and take a risk with us witches."

"I would accept all the help offered, Queen Aradria." Raindel appreciated the offer. "Anything for my son."

Aradria eyed Ezekiel again. "Wolf king, why are you hiding the identity of this person that is helping you?" Her eyes turned to slits. She would never rest the matter.

"Because Calixta can do it just fine." He said at last.

The Coven Queen’s eyes instantly bulged. Then it changed into a look of mischief and interest. A glint of excitement on her face was on display. "So, you chose to trust one of my rebels?" There was a resounding hiss in her last word. "I’m proud of my sister that you chose her, but at the same time, I’m offended, Wolf King." As sweet as her smile, the bitterness in her tone couldn’t be denied.
