Chapter 114: Chapter 113

Chapter 113

Melisca stared straight into his eyes. She couldn’t waver now. She shouldn’t. She already expected that possibility of them finding out that she was there. Their doubt was undeniable. And she had sensed the ABD in the air the moment she entered the room. They’d taken extra precautions. She was trapped inside with no extra abilities and other hunters looming outside the door. She had to thread nicely in her words.

Even though her eyes were in Josh’s face, she couldn’t see his hands from behind an open laptop. And that meant he could be holding a weapon.

She took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. "I was there to visit my family’s grave." It wasn’t a lie, which was much easier to show the pain in her eyes. She withdrew her gaze from him and took a step forward and sat at one of the chairs in front of his desk.

Josh followed her every movement. Still on high alert.

"Lorna knew about it." She casually said. "I just came back to that city, where I grew up and lost my family." She looked at him again with all seriousness in her face.

"There’s no cemetery in the suburbs." Josh stated firmly.

She instantly stood up and smacked the table with her palms loudly and hovered over the surface. Josh raised his hand and directed a gun to her face. He also clicked a button from under his desk, and the door opened. People in uniform rushed inside, pointing their weapons at her.

Melisca didn’t avert her gaze to the person behind the table. She squinted her eyes at him. "You can doubt me all you want. But there’s a cabin up there in the mountain. That’s where my family is. You can look around, but never touch, especially their graves. They’re the only people I respect." She raised a hand and touched the gun that was pointing at her. She pushed it to the side. He can pull the trigger anytime, but she knew he wouldn’t. And no one would be in the room. "I fear no one, Josh." She shook her head. "Specifically not even the monsters who killed my family."

She pulled herself up and stood up straight before turning around. They were still pointing their guns at her, but she did not pay them any attention as she went to the open door. "I’ll give you an update soon about Calicia. You won’t be disappointed." Her last words before she got out the door.

The hunters looked at Josh, who was left standing in the office. "Leave her be." He said and put his gun down on the table.

Melisca stormed back to her dorm and went straight to the bathroom. She was breathing raggedly as her hands were clenched to the side when she was walking down the hall outside. She exhaled loudly and hovered over the sink, watching herself in the mirror.

It was a calculated risk. Her advantage was knowing that they need Calicia Wymers alive. They need her alive. So, she braved her way out in Josh’s office. They can threaten her with any weapon, but that’s just it. Only a threat. Whatever the reason they want her still breathing, it was her advantage.

They could search for the cabin in the mountain. They could find out her parent’s grave. But she hoped that they’d take her words seriously. But even then, she’d reveal herself soon anyway.

She opened the tap and splashed water on her face to clear her mind somehow. She continued to hover over the sink, her hands on the edge of the tile. Droplets of water fell from her chin. She let the water run. The rushing sound of it was motivating her brain to think something. She didn’t have a concrete plan yet. She had to think fast now the most.

Even if she was doubting herself. The only thing that she had on her mind was that she had to do it. And she would get out of it alive. No matter what.

She blew out another frustrated breath. Her eyes staring at the clear water that was draining slowly but gushing loudly.

Think, Melisca! Think, think, think!

The captives had collars that could electrocute them to death without their ability to heal or a chance to take them off. Courtesy of the ABD.

"Ugh!" She grunted as she ran a hand through her face and tapped the water close.

That’s why she had to make sure everything was set, or it would only be useless to make any move if they’d die before she could get to their cells to free them.

Then her ears picked up noises from outside. Someone entered the dorm as well. But she heard a couple of voices. She decided to get out of the bathroom then. It was nearly time for the afternoon training to start.

Melisca didn’t mean to see the scene at the nearest bed by the door. But her peripheral vision caught it.

The girl slightly pushed Carmen away, who was kissing her against the wall. The redhead turned around to see what the girl was afraid of.

"Continue, I don’t mind." Melisca announced as she was walking to the door. But the girl scrambled away out of the dorm, beating Melisca out of the room.

The two were left looking at the door, and they turned to each other.

"Well, that was fun, but unsatisfying." Carmen commented and shrugged her shoulders as she wiped her lips with the back of her hands.

Melisca was really confused about the attitude that Carmen was showing. She thought the woman was uptight, but then she was kissing a girl with cameras around.

"I didn’t mean to interrupt your fun." She said and continue her way out. She’d admit that she was a bit surprise that Carmen was into girls. And she felt a little envious for the woman seemed to be carefree. She somehow missed being close to someone. She was instantly reminded by Ezekiel’s warm body when he touched her and his hot lips. She shook her head to erase the unnecessary thoughts in her mind.

"How’s your tattoo?" The redhead followed her outside.

"It’s fine." Melisca was still wondering why the tattoo stuck to her skin. But she wasn’t giving it much thought lately because of the things that was more important. She was just thankful that it stayed.

"Good." Carmen nodded.

"How do you like the organization so far?"

They were now walking down the halls. Melisca was still undecided if she’d get back to the cafeteria to continue her interrupted lunch.

"Hmm..." Carmen thought for a moment, trying to come up with something that doesn’t sound so honest but then, decided otherwise. "I think being a terrorist is much better. It’s so boring here." She grumbled.

That made Melisca halt on her tracks and turned to the woman behind her.

Carmen raised an eyebrow. "What? I’m an easily bored person."

Melisca resumed walking. "Then you had to up your game to get out of here soon. You know it’s the only way. Unless you’d turn into a corpse."

The redhead snorted and burst into laughter. She was now falling into step beside her. She gave her a sideways glance.

"I’d love to see them try."

"Confident, huh." She commented.

"Not just confidence, Lorwey." Then she winked at Melisca before turning another way to get to a group of girls that were sitting in the lobby.

Melisca decided to go to the cafeteria after all. She wouldn’t be able to think clearly if her stomach kept rumbling. She only had 30 minutes left but that would be enough.

In the arena, she kept glancing around. Observing each corner and even the people. And it didn’t get past her attention that the coaches were wearier of her and there were other security hunters inside.

She had to be extra careful. She wasn’t off their radar yet. Right now, she was sitting by one of the benches. She just finished her round of archery on the platform. The others were taking their turns.

Lorna was being assisted by her father in proper bow handling. She saw Carmen approaching her way through the side of her eyes. The woman sat beside her as no other people tried to get close to her. Even the male population were maintaining their distances from her. How thoughtful of them.

"Why does it feel like you’re under probation?" Carmen tilted her head to ask her. Then she opened her tumbler to drink some water.

She snorted at that. The woman seemed to always had the right hunches. "That’s because I am."

Carmen wiped the sweat off her forehead and tucked some lose strands of her hair behind her ear. "Why? What are you up to?"

"Much fun and thrilling." She casually said, which was ironically true for her.

"Count me in." Carmen retorted without any hesitation.

Melisca snapped her head to the woman and their gazes met.
