The Runaway Huntress -
Chapter 113 - 112
Chapter 113: Chapter 112
Chapter 112
Doctors in surgical attire surrounded her. The girl’s eyes were closed on the bed, wearing a gown. Her head was shaved hairless. And hands worked on opening her scalp in half. She could see the girl was still breathing as she noticed the rise and fall of her chest.
But Melisca wasn’t breathing anymore. She forgot until her chest constricted, begging for air.
The screen showed her the brain of the girl being examined. She quickly exited it out, couldn’t take it anymore. Her stomach churned, and bile wanted to rise to her throat. She couldn’t risk her laptop lying around with the display on her monitor. So, she had to bear what she saw.
She’s just a child. Witch or not. She’s just a freaking child!
She sat down the laptop on the bed beside her and huddled her knees close to her chest. Her elbows propped on top of her knees as her hands were on the sides of her head. She couldn’t shut her eyes. It would only bring back what she’d seen on the footage.
Before she could punch the screen, she held her head tightly, grasping her hair. She was sucking for air sharply. It was hard to breathe. Her eyes were down, staring at the sheets before her.
She went all numb. Their footages remained in her mind. They were currently opening them up. And she hadn’t done anything yet. Not even a plan to start with. It’s almost a week since Nesa asked her for help. She couldn’t imagine what other things these humans did to the supernatural beings. She doesn’t want to find out anymore.
She had to think fast and act faster. She had to do something! Anything or everything! Just to get them out.
Melisca took a deep breath. Finally coming to her senses. She picked up the laptop again. She wanted to find out what were the beings behind those closed doors far ahead in the Supernatural Room.
It was already a few minutes, and she couldn’t find it in any of the footage. She couldn’t waste any more time on it, so instead, she scanned the other CCTVs to see what the other hidden facilities were.
Then she decided to go for the electricity room. The source of all the current, and she tried to enter the system to see if she could take control over it. Just as she was about to do so, her fingers stopped. No. Not now. It was too risky. It could only be a one-time move. And they were doing experiments right now. It might complicate things and endanger their lives more.
Once she infiltrates the system, there’s a high possibility that she could be caught instantly. If not, she could buy some time. So, she planned to save that for that day soon. For now, she had to search if there was any underground map that had been saved in any of the trainer’s databases. But then, she couldn’t open them.
It seemed like there was another security that she had to pass through. And maybe that was why she couldn’t see the glass terrace footage either. They were kept more securely. That made her snort. That was smart. Freaking smart. She shook her head in amusement.
Then the door of the dorm slid open. That made her flinch out from concentration. She smelled the air. Just from the shampoo that the girl was using, she already knew who it was.
"Not done yet?" Carmen asked. "Lori’s—"
"Liz! Let’s have lunch together." Lorna barged as she went past Carmen with a slight shove that made the redhead move aside.
Waiting for you. Carmen wasn’t able to finish her sentence as the obnoxious girl sprinted inside. She wanted to curse at the girl but thought better not to react to it. Instead, she went back out of the room and left the two.
Melisca glanced at the time. It was already lunchtime. "Fuck." She hadn’t taken a shower yet. She quickly exited everything. Leaving on a false trace for the network to see that she was doing anything harmless to them. Then she turned off the laptop and kept them inside her wardrobe for safety.
"Go first. I’ll take a quick shower, then I’ll be there." She moved past Lorna and got inside the bathroom.
Lorna was thankful that Carmen was no longer around. She followed the woman since she knew she was going to the dorm. And she wasn’t going to be friendly to her anymore. She found that Carmen was colder than Liz. She didn’t know how the woman had so many friends. But she bet she was just faking herself in front of those people. She wouldn’t make a mistake of considering being cooperative with her again.
She turned around and decided to follow what Liz said. The cafeteria would be cramped if she didn’t find them a table anytime soon.
Melisca went straight to the cafeteria after preparing herself for the training. She directly strutted to the food line. And after a few minutes, a tray was in her hands with a sandwich, burger, hotdog buns, fries, a chocolate fudge slice of cake, and a canned juice. It was a lot, but she was hungry.
Lorna waved at her when she scanned the room. And she started on her direction. People still wondered about the amount of food she was consuming, but she was in perfect shape. Another thing to envy about her. It could be a supernatural thing, as she hadn’t seen anyone out of shape so far.
On her way, she walked past Carmen’s table and they nodded at each other. The redhead was with her group of friends.
She reached Lorna’s area, not too far away from Carmen’s. She propped her tray on the table and pulled out the seat.
"How’s the training?" She noticed that Lorna lost weight but gained some muscles. Her neck became slender but she can sense that she’d become stronger. Her hands had some calluses. That’s good sign that she was working hard.
"Just fine." Her face wasn’t that troubled anymore when they talk about the training. "But I still miss having you around." She lean forward against the table. "Though all you do is impress everyone."
That made her smile. She could have actually tone it down but then, she had her own agenda.
Melisca started to reach for her burger when Josh suddenly appeared before their table. And she was sure that she wouldn’t like why he was there. She was just about to eat for damn’s sake!
"Lorwey. Please come with me this instant." His voice sounded firm that no any excuses was allowed. And the way he looked at her, it was like she did something wrong. Awfully wrong.
"Can I at least take my burger?" She asked.
He nodded and turned around without any more words.
She exhaled and her lips formed a thin line in her own irritation. "Didn’t they have consideration that it’s lunchbreak?" She said as she stood up abruptly. The chair scraped on the floor.
Lorna shook her head. "Sorry." She couldn’t do anything but sympathize, knowing Liz loves her food and hated being interrupted. "I’ll reheat them for you later." She offered.
Melisca jolted her head for a nod before turning around.
"What about your burger?" Lorna called out as she was already walking away.
"Later!" She replied and stormed out of the cafeteria, following Josh. Why does it always have to be mealtime?! It seemed like they had a habit of calling for her in an empty stomach. And that was a torture for her somehow.
They went inside his office. He quickly went behind his desk and opened a drawer. He plopped a folder on the table carefully. She just looked at it. But her heart started to pound. Dreading of what it could be.
"Pick it up, Lorwey and open it." His tone didn’t change as he stared at her. On their way to his office and even outside, she noticed that there were more men in uniform hanging around. And she can sense their eyes on her every move. That was not a good sign.
She reached for the folder and opened them. She remained calm on the outside. Not changing her expression.
"Tell me, Lorwey."
She didn’t have to look at him as she can feel that he was trying to read her reaction.
"Why and what were you doing in the suburbs the same days the hunters were killed?"
