Chapter 107

Ezekiel stepped forward and offered a hand for a greeting. "Vextral Gage."

Vex smirked at him and accepted his handshake. "Ezekiel Stavrus." He greeted back. "Nice place. Got a wonderful view all around."

They released their hands, and Vex roamed his eyes to the mass of forest, an ocean to the other side, and city lights in the distance. "What a scenic view indeed." He nodded his head in appreciation.

"Thanks." Zek mumbled.

This man, aside from having the looks that could make ladies fall in an instant as well, was as dangerous as he was. Both humans on the outside, but monsters by nature.

"Come on, let’s get inside. Your men can come too. I have humans who can accommodate them as well." Zek offered.

"That’s too welcoming for you, Stavrus." Then he turned to his men. "Don’t roam around carelessly. We’re not in our own property." He warned them with a death warning in his eyes.

"Yes, boss!" They responded in unison. He had four people with him, along with the pilot and three assistants or bodyguards.

Zek gestured for his own men, who were waiting at the door, to take over and help the other guests.

They settled inside his study room, which was on the second floor of the mansion.

His guest seemed to be amazed in his display of blueprints in a glass frame hanging on a wall that was dedicated for them. "You know, I sometimes forget that you’re a great architect." Vex stated as he looked in awe at the drawings. "Other than being a wolf king or lycan. I’m not really sure." He shrugged his shoulders. He was standing in front of the wall with hanging frames of Zek’s building designs or houses.

Ezekiel kept all the original blueprints he made so far and would only distribute a copy to his clients.

"It’s almost the same." Zek responded.

One of his servants came in and placed a snack on the table.

Vex then stepped into the lounge area as Zek walked out of his desk and grabbed his phone.

"Please take a seat."

Both men plopped their butts on the leather sofa, sitting across from each other with a small table between them.

"What would you like to drink?" Zek asked.

Vex thought for a moment, thinking for a liquor, but thought otherwise. He still had a meeting later at night. And he was sure that the king would offer the supernatural alcohol that could really hit the system. He had those as well back home because the drinks made by humans took so long before he felt the buzz in his head.

"Any juice would be fine." He answered.

The maid nodded and exited the room to prepare them for the guest. Zek requested one as well.

"How’s business so far?" Zek started. "It’s surprising that you wanted to get here instead of me coming to you in your abode.

"Of course, I would also like to see the home of a werewolf king. And I wasn’t disappointed. But then, let’s cut to the chase. You needed something, your majesty. What is it?"

Ezekiel smirked. That’s one thing he likes about this man. He was always on the track. "This could be difficult and much more complicated."

Vex leaned forward. "Tell me what’s complicated." His eyes already squinting for the challenge.

"Finding the lost sister of a witch." Zek answered directly, and he noticed the change in Vex’s expression. It was of bewilderment and disdain.

"You know I don’t like them, right?" His brows furrowed.

"I think most people don’t."

"What’s in it for you to do this?"

"I think it’s none of your business, for it’s my deal with the witches. And your deal is with me."

Vex leaned back in the seat and contemplated. If only he were facing a lesser individual, he wouldn’t have thought twice about retorting rudely to that, and he would press the matter. But he was facing a wolf king, one of the most powerful supernatural beings. Making a deal with bigshot people was always worthy, even with higher risk and much more dangerous jobs.

But it involved witches, which was a race that he hated most. "But it involves them."

"There’s no risk in this."

"What do I get in return?"

"What do you want, Gage?"

The servant came back and placed glasses of juice in front of them. They didn’t take away their gazes from each other. Ezekiel was anticipating his answer.

"Nothing yet that I can think of. But you owe me this one."

Ezekiel groaned. He never liked owning and then asking for an impossible request later.

"Fine. You can tell me later about what you want, but you had to do this quickly."

Vex had a triumphant smile on his face and reached for the refreshments on the table.

Zek told him the details of Calixta’s sister that she revealed to him when she communicated with him via phone to find her with a greater chance. He deemed it faster for Vex to find people or something because he deals with the underworld business, the black market, and other shadowy things. He doesn’t like dealing with that kind of stuff, so he was thankful that he knew someone who does it. A mafia boss at that.

***************

Melisca was still sound asleep when Lorna went to visit her during lunch. Lorna asked Carmen to come to dorm 8 because she couldn’t get inside. Her card wasn’t accessible to open the door.

She had to swallow her dislike of the woman just to make her return to the dorm. And Carmen had fun by taunting Lorna. She can see in the girl’s face her fake polite plea. But she didn’t mind it at all. She doesn’t really care about it.

"Why does she reek of alcohol?" Lorna’s nose scrunched upon the strong odor of whisky. She was standing before Melisca’s sleeping figure which was on her stomach and her face was on the other side. "Did someone poison her with it?" She looked on her feet which still had her boots on.

Carmen snorted. She was leaning by the wall beside the door. Her arms crossed against her chest. "Maybe it was for her to relax since she looked nervous about it earlier."

Lorna just then understood and nodded. She stepped closer to the edge of the bed and planned to take off Melisca’s boots.

"What are you doing?" Carmen instantly pulled her body from the wall and was on alert. "I suggest you stay away from her before you got thrown off the wall."

Lorna stopped her hand from reaching one of Melisca’s boots. A memory suddenly popped in her mind. It was when they shared the same hotel room in the suburbs and she tapped her shoulder to wake her up, but then in just a blink, she was throttled on the bed and couldn’t move.

She swallowed hard and then jerked her body a few steps away from the bed. She stared at the sleeping woman, there was no sign that she had woken her up. No, if she succeeded, she wouldn’t be standing on her feet. She exhaled in relief. Yep. That was still her most traumatic experience in waking up someone.

Then she looked at Carmen who was standing by the door but seemed ready to approach them. "Thanks for reminding me."

Carmen nodded. "You can get out on your own. I’m going first. I’m hungry." She turned around and slid the exit door. It can only be opened from the inside.

"I’m coming with you." Lorna announced and then glanced at Melisca for the last time before going to the door.

That made Carmen stopped and tilted her head to the side. "Are you sure, Lori?"

Lorna didn’t know why she said that but the deed was done. And hearing her call her with that nickname, it irked her. She went out first since Carmen wasn’t moving and kept on smiling at her. How she wanted to erase that smile.

"But it’s cute." Carmen stepped out, leaving the door since it would automatically close in its own.

She knew it’s cute. But what she doesn’t like more was the way she was calling her that. She can feel the mockery in her tone. Like she was treating her as a child.

The two were now striding in the hallway to the cafeteria. They only have an hour and 30 minutes for lunch break. And now, only an hour was left for them. Some hunters were lounging around the lobby, talking with their circle of friends.

"Why do you keep on befriending Liz, Carmen?" Lorna asked directly.
