The Runaway Huntress -
Chapter 106 - 105
Chapter 106: Chapter 105
Chapter 105
"Are you eager to get this done?" Tyla asked her. She noticed that Melisca wasn’t really thrilled about the session. Her face was contorted in an uncomfortable expression. But it was the basic protocol that every hunter deployed out of the camp would have to go through.
"Yes." She hissed. Trying to swallow down her nervousness.
Tyla didn’t say anything else and led Melisca to a room where they would do the session. They passed through hallways and corridors. Every time Melisca roamed around, it was like there was always a new passage she hadn’t been with.
"This place is like a maze." She blurted out.
"Not really. But you’ll get to know the entire place soon." Tyla responded without looking back at her.
They finally entered a new door, and there was no one inside. Only them and some equipment. It’s a small room. Bottles of ink were on a shelf, and fresh needles were ready on the table. There were also tissues, gloves, and other objects.
The moment the door closed behind her, she swallowed hard enough, and she could hear her heartbeat pounding in her ears. Cold sweat was trickling down the side of her face. Added to that, her shallow breathing. She couldn’t get enough air in her lungs.
Tyla noticed Melisca froze on the spot. "Do you need a drink to loosen you a bit?" She offered. "Take a seat on that chair." She pointed at the table.
"What drink?" Melisca took a deep breath and forced her feet to move forward rather than go running back out of the room. She really wanted to escape those needles and ink.
Tyla walked to the minibar at the corner of the room. She took a bottle of whisky from the chiller and a glass.
"This." She returned to her side and twisted open the cap.
"Alcohol?" Melisca could smell the strong tang of whisky. Her face lit up when Tyla poured a glass for her. Alcohol could slow down her healing process. And it could really help calm her nerves.
Tyla offered her the glass.
"Thanks." She mumbled and grabbed it quickly. Not minding anymore if it seemed too eager for it. She was even yearning for the whole bottle to get her system to delay the process of healing.
If only she was exposed in ABD, she might have nothing to worry about for some time. But then it doesn’t stay long in her system until she finishes the session.
"Drink it all if you want to." Tyla offered.
"How about you?"
"Nah." She refused. "I don’t drink. Besides, do you really want a drunk woman to use needles on you?"
Melisca had just thought about it. "Right."
"Just drink before we start."
Tyla prepared the ink and some chemicals she would use on Melisca’s skin. She had something special for the girl. She couldn’t act freely since the room was being monitored by a CCTV. There was only so little that she could help her with without being suspicious to the people behind the camera.
Melisca already drank half of the bottle’s content, and she was surprised that it already made her feel the slight buzz of alcohol in her head. She picked up the bottle and read the label. "How strong is this?" It was the first time that she got affected so quickly.
-Coven’s-
She had never heard of the brand name before, and it didn’t have any indication of alcohol percent in it. But anyway, it would be her favorite drink then if she planned to get drunk that fast. "Where did you get this?" She asked Tyla while holding the bottle. The woman was standing a few feet away from her. A very tiny object was on her fingers. It could be the microchip.
"That’s a rare bottle. But I forgot where I got it since it’s been in the fridge for a long time."
Melisca’s face contorted. Maybe it already expired. That’s why it had a strange effect on her. But there wasn’t any expiration date on the bottle. It only had its brand name. Strange. However, it helped her a lot and she can feel the heat in her body rising.
The strong aroma of whisky was nothing on her nostrils. It was a welcome spicy smell that she liked. She almost downed everything when Tyla sat in front of her with a stencil ready. "Please show me your right arm."
Melisca opened the buttons of her uniform and showed her right upper arm to the woman.
Tyla put on the stencil to trace the tattoo. Two bold vertical lines with a viper. The tail in the middle bottom of the two lines, the body snaking to the left side line across the right, creating a horizontal line, connecting the two lines, forming a letter H. The head of the viper, an inch on the top of the horizontal body.
She recalled when he saw the tattoo on Lorna’s upper arm. It seemed so realistic. She knew how cool it looked. But it was just upsetting that she would never be able to get one.
Now, she was about to, but she was in a complete dilemma about where she was getting it and the blood that would come out of her skin. Any pinch of her blood could end up revealing her identity. She couldn’t even trust Tyla, for the woman was acting really suspicious most of the time.
Tyla would sometimes act friendly with her and then mock her later. And she had long sensed that not all in the committee had a liking for the woman. Aside from that, she looked the youngest in the group. The only thing she liked about her was that Tyla could rile up Vera. They both don’t like the doctor.
"Relax." Tyla said. She can feel the tensed muscles in Melisca’s arms. "This wouldn’t hurt..." She looked at her face with a small smile. "A lot."
Melisca refrained herself from giving her an eyeroll. Oh, as if I care about the pain. She grumbled.
After a few more process, Tyla reached for the needle. She can see that Melisca’s face turned grim and she was biting her lower lip. She understood why she was all anxious and she can sense her dread at the same time. But Melisca had nothing to worry. She got it all under control. She mixed a little of ABD in the ink so it could last as possible before everything would fade.
As Tyla started, in just a few minutes, blood started to show up. Melisca could only feel the light pounding of her heart and her brain seemed to grow numb. It was the effect of the whisky that she emptied. She was thankful for the alcohol and it was giving her a bit of a confidence that the ink would stay longer until the session finished.
And the blood that was coming out, Tyla wiped them with a tissue. She didn’t even wince from the needle biting her skin.
Beads of sweat trickled down her eyebrows and she wiped them by the back of her hand. Tyla gave her extra tissues. The room was air-conditioned but her system was in heat from the alcohol she drank and the anticipation in everything.
The session went through. An hour past and Tyla was almost finished with the first part of the tattoo. The second was the engraving of microchip.
"Does it only trace dead people?" Melisca finally opened her mouth. Her head was still buzzing and she felt sleepy.
"Yes." No. Tyla answered without looking at her. She was solely focused on the girl’s upper arm.
The device that she had to insert in Melisca’s skin was ready on the table. As what was everyone claiming that it could only trace dead people? No. It wasn’t. Not exactly. It had another purpose, the main one. The device would track every hunter out there to know if they were loyal to the organization. If they found out that you broke their trust, then the system would send a signal to that device to explode within your skin. And there was poison in that microchip. Poison that would travel in your veins once it exploded and ends life.
No one really knew about the entire detail except for the committee members and the makers.
Carmen looked at the large digital clock near the ceiling of the arena. It was almost two hours. She had to wait outside for Melisca. She was too conscious of the time that she kept glancing at it.
They were currently sitting at the bench as there was another cage fight happening. It was the elf again. And he was indeed too mesmerizing to look at. She groaned and shrugged herself from remembering her earlier encounter with Melisca when she talked about the elf.
She was somehow uncomfortable that she had to change her persona for befriending her. But she had fun, especially with Loriena that she kept taunting. She doesn’t mind that the girl disliked her at all.
Carmen avoided looking at the cage and stood up to walk to the restroom. But when a loud cheer erupted, her head snapped to its direction. It was unexpected but it happened.
She didn’t want to look the elven prince directly to his eyes. But their gazes met. She knew he’s a prince. But she wasn’t sure if anyone else knew about it too.
His golden eyes made her breath caught up in her throat. And she noticed that his eyes squinted at her. She withdrew her gaze and hurried her footsteps to her destination. The elven prince might see through her glamour if he got to stare at her directly enough to her face.
