Chapter 105: Chapter 104

Chapter 104

The next day, Melisca couldn’t calm her pounding heart. Today is the day that she’d had her tattoo and DT. And she was also worrying about the details the hunters get when they inquire about the suburbs.

She didn’t have any plans yet in how to rescue Nesa, and if possible, the other supernatural too. Getting her laptop would be a great start. She had drawn a map of the place that she strained to remember. It would be great if enhanced memorization was also one of the qualities they had, but sadly, their brain functions were just like humans. Though she wasn’t sure with any other races.

She was about to get inside the bathroom when Carmen called, and she turned around, towel hanging over her shoulder.

"Melisca." Carmen walked towards her. "Are you joining the training today?"

"Not sure. They would call me anytime for the tattoo." She answered.

Carmen nodded. "I see. Are you ready for it? I heard it hurts."

Melisca shrugged her shoulders. She could care less about the pain. What she was worried for was the ink on her skin. But she remained her cool in front of Carmen. Even though she was really dreading it inside. "I don’t have a choice, do I?"

"You don’t. But don’t worry too much about it." Carmen moved closer to her and whispered. "How about I come see you after the tattoo branding?"

Girls were passing in front of them, going in and out of the bathroom.

Her forehead knotted, confused. "Why would you do that? I would never cry over some needle."

Carmen snorted. She retreated a step from her. "I know. But I have something that could help the tattoo look as real as it can be." She wiggled her eyebrows at her.

"Huh? I think I don’t need that." Considering the ink would be gone on its own in just a few minutes. Her shoulders slumped, and she groaned inwardly.

"Oh, come on. It’s for free. Since you’ll be the first one that I’ll get to try it. Also, because you’re the closest person I know that was about to get a tattoo. Let’s just see the results then." Carmen insisted. They were the only girls left who hadn’t started their morning routine yet. As the others were already busy on their uniforms.

"Fine." Melisca grumbled. She’d lost none, only the tattoo. She blew a whistling breath and turned around to get inside the bathroom already. Carmen followed.

Melisca felt like her heart was about to burst out from her chest all morning. She was now having breakfast with Lorna, and the girl seemed to notice her lack of appetite.

"Liz, are you alright?" Lorna asked her friend across from her. Liz wasn’t eating normally. From just how little she ordered. She instantly knew something was up. And now she was barely touching her food.

Melisca didn’t want to be so obvious, but it was something that she didn’t know how to overcome. And it just came to her mind from overthinking that her blood would also ooze out from the needle when it started to prick her skin for marking. There was so much at stake just from getting this tattoo.

She shook her head as she remained in her deep thought. Not noticing that Lorna was talking to her.

"Liz." Lorna decided to lightly kick Liz’s boots under the table.

That made Melisca raise her head finally and look at the girl in front of her.

"What’s wrong with you?" Lorna asked demandingly. She put her utensils down and clasped both hands on the table as she leaned forward. "You’re barely eating. Don’t tell me you’re fine. Because you’re obviously not."

Melisca of course, couldn’t tell her about the dilemma she had. And wouldn’t even think of opening it up to her. "You got your hunter tattoo. How long does it take to be done with the drawing?" She picked up her fork and curled some pasta on it.

"Hmm..." Lorna tried to recall her memories. "I think it was about two hours."

"Two hours?" She repeated.

"Yes. Is that what you are worried about? The tattoo? Please don’t tell me you’re afraid of needles." Lorna’s eyes widen in shock.

"No." Her abrupt reply with a displeased look at such a thought.

"You don’t like having a tattoo?"

"Yes." That could be the most valid reason for her current mood from the other’s perspective. "Can I not get one?"

"No. Everyone had to when they were about to be deployed out of the camp. And the DT also."

Lorna reminded her of another thing that she was also worried about. "Can you explain it more to me? The DT."

The girl pulled her body and leaned to the back of her chair. Lorna looked around to see if anyone could hear them within earshot. The device was only known to the members that were about to get a tattoo or those who passed the trainings. "Death Trackers are for tracking your dead body anywhere you are. It would activate, and the system picks up the signal when your heart stopped beating for over 12 hours."

"12 hours?" She moved her body forward and started on her food.

"There was an allowance of 12 hours because it can just be a false alarm that a tracker was accidentally ripped off the skin, but the hunter was still alive. So when the tracker turned up, either it was out of you or you’re already a corpse."

So, that’s how the hunters Laia buried were found by another team. Laia wasn’t a traitor or didn’t have any hand with the hunters.

"Do you also use them for tracking hunters, like, trying to know wherever they are?"

Lorna shook her head. "No. It doesn’t work that way. DT only activates when it doesn’t pick up any heartbeat. Then it would set a timer. After 12 hours, it would send a signal to the system here and a team would retrieve the body from its location."

Melisca slowly nodded her head in understanding. "How would they attach it to the skin?"

"It’s in the eye of the viper. Buried just underneath the skin. There’s a small bump of it actually. It was hidden so well because of the tattoo."

She nodded again, taking in the information and trying to process everything in her mind. It was just like from the movies. Advanced inventions. She was amazed of how humans were actually making them real, not just in the entertainment screen.

"Hey, Melisca." Carmen appeared in front of their table. Both raised their head on the woman. "Hello, Lori." There was a polite smile on her lips when she looked at Lorna.

"Hello back." Lorna grumbled. She doesn’t like it when the woman called her that. They weren’t even a tiny bit close.

"Are you ready for the tattoo? Tyla was waiting for you at the door."

"She’d barely eaten anything yet." Lorna protested.

"Can she wait?" Melisca was shivering from the cold sweat and anxiousness enveloped her system. Something in her mind was telling her to run from it. Avoid the needles and the tattoo. But that would be more suspicious than anything.

Carmen looked back at the door. Melisca and Lorna followed her gaze. The white-haired woman was standing proudly near the entrance. Other trainees greeted her and she was smiling in response. Then as if she sensed their eyes on her, she looked at their direction and nodded at them.

"Ugh. Fine. Melisca grumbled and stood up, her chair scraping the floor. "Better get this done with as soon as possible." There was anger in her tone. The two remained silent. She walked away and headed to the woman that was waiting for her by the door. Each step was heavier as her heart pounded louder. Her goes fucking up.
