Chapter 103

She didn’t expect him to be asking that so soon. Does she have to reveal what other things she can do other than fight? She was thinking if it could be an advantage for her to showcase her hacking skills as well or might make her more restricted.

Melisca ran a hand through her hair, contemplating what she should say. "I always visit the last place they had been. It often had some clue. And I ask people around within that area. Then..." She’d do some hacking in people’s CCTV if they had that. "If that doesn’t work, then I would resort to my computer skills."

"What do you mean?" Ask the person on her right side.

"I look into them online to trace their money transactions if they ever made a mistake by withdrawing in any banks or automatic machines."

"You know how to do that?"

She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. "A little. If I get lucky. But for this hybrid that you’re looking for, was there anything else that I had to know? Any useful information that could tell where she was in the latest?" She exactly wasn’t comfortable sharing her ways of hunting. Because she also uses her supersenses to detect everything more clearly.

"In Falden City, that’s our latest hunch." Josh replied.

She nodded. It’s a good thing then that they haven’t suspected anything that their target had moved to Dhasma City already, and she was just right under their noses. "But how can you be so sure that it was the hybrid who did that massacre, not any other supernatural?"

"If it wasn’t Calicia, our hunters could have stood a chance for the effect of the chemicals the team brought. A pureblood supernatural wouldn’t be able to kill them all at the same time. The other hunters could expose the ABD in the area before anyone attacks them."

Melisca recalled the event on her mind. "What if they didn’t use it before the attack happened? What would likely be the outcome?" Because they truly did not expose the chemical, not until she appeared.

A member sighed and answered her. "That’s total negligence on their part and protocol."

Yep. She agreed. It indeed was on their part. Not her fault then that she got them killed by herself.

"But then again there was evidence of ABD usage. Calicia could fight those effects."

"Are you sure of that?" Melisca’s automatic response because it certainly affected her in some ways when she faced them back in the forest. "You tested them on a hybrid already?" And she was curious if they had any other hybrids, even in other races.

No one answered, and everyone looked hesitant.

"What if it wasn’t really this Calicia, and the hunters were just outnumbered despite using the ABD, Anti-Superno, or any other poisons you invented so far?" She pressed on them. "We can’t fully assume that it was her doing.

Each member exchanged glances at one another. Except for Josh.

"I assure you all it was her doing. There’s no doubt about it." He held his head up to her, daring her to question his certainty.

Melisca stared into him, and he met her gaze. "How?"

"We’re not here to discuss the things that shouldn’t be lingered on, Lorwey." He placed both hands on the table and hovered over it. "Our agenda here is to find Calicia. And I’m open for any of your ideas on how to do it."

What a bummer! She didn’t know how to respond to that. How would she do it when it was her damn self? She snorted in her mind and wanted to laugh at it. But she tried to remain stoic. "Give me a laptop, or much better, my laptop. Let me do some own research. I might be able to figure out something about her. That’s the first thing I would like to do before I get into more action." She needed her laptop for other purposes. Hacking into the underground CCTVs and system could make everything easier for her to help the supernatural captives escape.

Josh was contemplating for a moment. He still wasn’t sure if Melisca Lorwey could be trusted with any gadget. "I’ll ask the higher-ups if they’d allow it." His response, but she looked certain that she could do it or there would be results if she was given the equipment.

Melisca shrugged her shoulders. "Up to you then. But it looked like you needed to hurry up because if she really is in Falden City, that would be a great chance to get a hold of her since she just emerged from the shadows, as you’ve all presumed." She roamed her eyes to people around the table. Implementation had to be shadowed by confidence so that it would sound like the only thing that could work.

"I never failed any of my bounty hunting missions before." Well, except for that one with Gregor Tandel. He killed his wife, and it was also the first time she got injected by a needle. Wait. She withdrew her gaze and looked down as her eyebrows furrowed in instant thinking. He used the Anti-superno on her. So, Gregor could also be a hunter then.

But anyway, he wasn’t that important anymore. And she didn’t fail that one, just almost, when Argon appeared. She was glad she still remembered the name of that friendly-looking werewolf.

"I’ll tell you in an instant when they approve of you having a laptop, Lorwey." Josh stated and stood up straight.

She just nodded. It could be suspicious if she appeared desperate to have a laptop. But she had to get it.

A gnawing thought suddenly popped in her mind. "By the way, how did you found those corpses if there were no survivors?" She wanted a clear knowledge about it. Not just an assumption. She somehow doubted Laia of being their accomplice because she was the only other person who knew where the first two bodies were buried. Laia was the one who did it after all.

"Every hunter has a DT or death tracker in their body. It’s a microchip that’s put within the tattoo." Josh instantly pointed a finger at her. "I’m glad you asked about that. Tyla wanted to do your tattoo tomorrow morning."

Oh, shit. Dread filled her body and mind when he said those. Her heart pounded loudly against her chest again. Inks never stayed on her skin.

"For now, what we’d do is ask around the nearest community in the forest if they noticed someone new around." Josh showed the screen the group of food stalls at the suburbs.

"There’s always new people stopping by to buy something." She commented. She felt like her heart was in her throat. She knew people could easily recognize her. Then she tried to recall if she roamed around without a mask on.

"Yes. But as you said, there could always be clues." Josh clearly took note of everything she’d said.

Damn it. She was most worried about the mechanic shop she’d stopped by a couple of times.

Then Josh appointed some of the members for the task. She remained silent as her numb mind was bombarded with a wave of worry and panic. Ink, microchip, and inquiring people? Oh, fuck. I’m screwed.
