The Runaway Huntress -
Chapter 103 - 102
Chapter 103: Chapter 102
Chapter 102
Melisca followed Josh. She stayed on alert if ever it was a trap for her. She had her abilities back during lunch. The ABD finally vanished in her system.
Her hands were itching to raise the folder as they were walking. She wanted to peek at the information, but Josh was obviously in a hurry with his quick, long strides. She was trying to keep up with him.
"The team is in the area. I called them all here so that we can welcome you into the team and fill you in with the details." Josh stated as they went inside doors after doors. Melisca tried to remember everything. It was frustrating for her to take note of all the rooms she’d been in so far. There were a lot. How she wanted to draw them down on paper to keep track of the passages. She’d do it later cautiously.
And at last, they entered the trainer’s conference room as what the signage above posted.
The first thing she noticed when she entered the room was that no one was near her age. They all looked in their late 30s or early 40s. Only three women and seven men. Josh was counted as well. They looked tough, and their stares were calculating.
Melisca felt their gaze of curiosity, doubt, and indifference.
"Team, this is Melisca Lorwey." Josh guided her to the table. Everyone was on their feet.
Josh introduced them one by one to her and vice versa. Despite feeling a bit of their hostility, they remain passive and professional to accommodate her casually. They stared openly at her. There were some comments about how she looked remarkable pretty. Of course, that would never be gone.
"Please settle down, everyone." Josh requested. It was obvious then. He’s the leader.
Melisca sat at the opposite end of the table, right across from Josh.
"Lorwey, have you read the document already?" He started. He was standing at the front. A whiteboard behind him and a laptop on the table.
Melisca winced at that question. She started to hate that question more and more. It’s harmless but a bit humiliating for her proud persona. She doesn’t want people to look down on her, especially if a job was involved.
"Don’t have the chance yet." She quipped but held her head high even if she heard other members sighed in displeasure and shook their heads.
Yes. I’m disappointed in myself too. And she couldn’t blame Tyla’s tour because it helped a lot of her knowledge in the organization.
"That’s okay." Josh nodded in understanding. "Just make sure to review it later. But I’ll introduce to you the basic details.
Josh pressed something on the laptop, and a projected image of a girl was displayed behind him. He stepped aside for everyone to see her clearly.
"This is Calicia Wymers." Josh introduced.
Melisca’s heart went out of her chest upon seeing the picture of the girl who had dark brown hair, black eyes, a fair complexion, and chubby cheeks.
"This is the eight-year-old Calicia."
Josh’s voice and her surroundings seemed to vanish as she forgot to breathe. She’s hard as a statue. Her eyes blinked in horror.
It was a good thing that she was at the end of the table and that everyone was facing the image in front of them.
Her chest constricted, and she inhaled sharply as it reminded her to breathe. She closed her mouth that had opened in shock. Swallowing hard, she blinked with eyes still big as saucers.
That wasn’t Calicia who was in the picture. That’s fucking me! How... "Fuck." She cursed under her breath. She couldn’t just contain it in her mind. What’s freaking happening?
Her hands moved on the table and opened the folder in front of her. To see what other details they had and to confirm if it was really her. The resemblance of the child in the picture and her when she was at the same age was too uncanny. They could pass up as perfect copies of each other.
As her eyes read the information, her heart pounded louder and louder.
Mother’s name: Melicia Wymers
Father’s name: Cabril Wymers
It was her parents’ names, except the surname. There were also details about the places they’ve lived. It was the same as where they transferred from places to places before just to escape the people who were after them. Also, some other details of where she studied and her birthday. Luckily, she had deleted her real information in the online system. But they managed to get her details until she was eight years old. And they were accurate as long as she could remember.
No. There was no doubt. This Calicia Wymers was literally her. But where did they get these names? As she tried hard to think about it, her head started to throb painfully, which made her wince. She robbed a hand on her forehead and breathed slowly to calm herself. It was like there’s a barrier inside her brain, and she shouldn’t be knocking on it. This wasn’t the time for her to wallow in her own thoughts.
She looked again in the front, to Josh, and their gazes met. There was an annoyed look on his face. He may have caught her not listening. She closed the folder then.
"Our latest update is that Calicia might be behind these killings." Josh projected them pictures. The image showed corpses that were in a hole. It was quite a pile of dead bodies. Some of them got dislocated bones, one headless, and everything was just a bloody mess. "Before them, two red hunters were sent to hunt a vampire." He showed a picture of two corpses that look overly dehydrated. "They failed to do the task as they ended up dead. The vampire sucked their blood dry."
Another image displayed the evidence of used syringes. "But these Anti-superno were empty. That means they have they must have got the vampire. And these traces of blood here, a battle must have occurred." There was blood on the tree and on the ground, scattered everywhere. "It was just a theory but the vampire might have survived the syringe by drinking immediate human blood. Surely it somehow affected her. But she wasn’t alone. She had help."
The image of father and son that she first killed and fed to the vampire was on the screen. "Danilo and his son." There was a hard edge in Josh’s tone. She knew Danilo and him were close. Her mother claimed them as her best friends.
Don’t worry, Josh. You’ll join him soon. She swore of it. He’d be dead before she was out of the organization. And everybody involved.
"They were buried first. Their DT had activated and..." He paused and grabbed the bottled water beside the laptop to drink some liquid. It was obvious that it hit him hard.
Wow. You feel like that to Danilo but not towards my mother? You’re fucking ridiculous!
Her fists clenched under the table as her jaw was set hard.
He cleared his throat before continuing. Everyone was sitting still on their seats. Like they haven’t been affected that much anymore. They were all used to it. "The retrieval team went for their bodies. But this happened instead." The image of piled corpses in the hole was on display. "The team got killed. You see, a normal human couldn’t just do this. And they were our hunters. They have weapons and they’ve been trained. There was evidence that they’ve used Anti-superno and ABD. But it wasn’t enough."
"Calicia might still be in Falden City." One of the members sitting at the front row stated.
"After almost a decade, she finally made a comeback." Another comment from them.
"Lorwey, how do you hunt your target?" Josh asked her and everybody’s head turned at her direction.
