The Runaway Huntress -
Chapter 102 - 101
Chapter 102: Chapter 101
Chapter 101
Tyla turned to face her. "As I’ve said, you’d find out soon." She put on her mask of playfulness back. "Patience, Melisca." She can see the curiosity burning in the girl’s eyes. Patience was all she had throughout the years. It’s what she needed. "Let’s head back now."
"Are we done with the tour?" Melisca asked as she followed behind Tyla. She glanced one last time at those double doors. Then she hurried up to Tyla’s side.
"For now. Yes."
The woman she was following was doing quick strides. She wanted to hurry out of the room as well. The ABD in the room was too thick that it was making her brain numb. Even if she sunk her system to being human, it was still gnawing uncomfortably in her.
The moment they got out of the room, she felt slightly better. Her lungs can breathe more freely. It was like a heavy load that was crushing her chest had been taken out. Cold sweat enveloped her body. It made her shiver for a few seconds before her system adjusted to the new atmosphere.
Tyla eyed Melisca, who was sweating. She knew the girl must have felt awful inside the room from the heavy chemicals in the closed walls. The ABD is much more potent in a trapped space.
"I think you should take some rest. You might be called for a meeting with the HC team later. Take the time to study what’s in that folder." She glanced at the document in Melisca’s hand.
Melisca eyed it too. "This Calicia Wymers..." She was unsatisfied with the answers she got earlier. "How dangerous can a hybrid werewolf and human be that you were all hell-bound to look for her?"
"Oh." There’s a hint of amusement in Tyla’s eyes. "I’m not part of the team that is after her."
She got silent for a moment, contemplating whether to ask her next question. But she did anyway. Maybe, somehow, she can get something. "Are the supernatural beings looking for her as well? Do they know her existence?"
Tyla looked at her, really looked at her. Those dark orbs— could have read what’s on her mind if she were the same being as before. But she knew what’s behind her questions. Melisca had been out there but was still confused. However, she’s proud that the girl kept her identity well and managed her own for almost a decade.
"I hope not before the hunters could find her. But I think it’s better that she fell into the hands of the supernatural than here in the organization. As you’d see what they did to the captives."
What she saw earlier in the laboratories popped back in her mind. And it brought another shiver to her body.
"Should I refuse to be a member of the team?"
Tyla snorted. "Why would you? You have the privilege to know more about the organization."
Yep. She’s right. But, damn it! She doesn’t want this Calicia Wymers to end up being one of their experiments or any other being. She grunted inwardly. She wonders if she can just blow up the whole place so that everything would be in chaos and their equipment and resources would get damaged.
Wait. Hold that thought right there. She couldn’t just do it. She could kill the supernatural in their cells too since they won’t have their ability to heal. But it could destroy their cells.
Tyla noticed Melisca must be brewing something on her mind as the girl stared into space and was blinking in a daze.
"Melisca, let’s get moving. We can’t stand here all day." She tapped her shoulder and started walking away from the door.
She followed her silently, and they got to the main hallway. She saw some trainees lurking around. It must’ve been lunchtime already or near lunchtime. They eyed them both, especially Tyla beside her. It looked like she wasn’t the only one who stood out just by appearance.
"I really like your name." Tyla said out of the blue. "Melisca." She drawled it in her tongue.
She was a bit taken aback by the compliment. "Thank you." She said in an automatic response. It wasn’t often that she got praised by her name.
Melisca noticed a redhead coming their way. It’s her roommate, Carmen.
"Ms. Tyla." Carmen nodded at the woman.
"Carmen, how have you been?"
"Good." She replied with a smile, then looked at Melisca. "Can I invite you for lunch?"
Melisca was about to open her mouth to refuse, but Tyla chimed in.
"Go ahead. Have lunch with your new friend." Tyla even pushed her lightly in Carmen’s direction. She eyed the woman with a disapproving gaze. "Friends can help you survive in this kind of environment." Tyla’s words were laced with sweetness as she smiled at her.
She was totally confused by the woman’s actions. She acted all sweet and friendly to her, but at some point, she would hold back, being a mystery. Tyla’s a total puzzle. She couldn’t figure out what’s her true intention. Maybe it was also the reason why she felt that some committee members, specifically Vera, didn’t like her.
But the woman contributed a massive deal to their organization by taking back the escapee before. And she didn’t tell her how she’d done it.
"It’s better to have as many friends if you have a lot of enemies. Whether it’s fake or not, what matters is that they could be beneficial for you in certain times. Enjoy your lunch. "Tyla then turned around and went to the other side of the hall.
She was left blinking with that advise.
"Liz!" Then her attention was caught by that familiar high-pitched, girlish voice. She doesn’t have to turn around to know who it was. "Liz."
Lorna was running to her friend’s direction. She just got out of the training room and she went to the hallway where Lize was supposed to exit from the private facilities.
"What are you doing here?" Lorna stopped in front of them and gave Carmen a hostile gaze.
"I’m here to invite Melisca for lunch." Carmen was unbothered by Lorna’s scornful look.
"Why would you think that she’d agree?" Lorna’s eyes squinted.
"And why are you here?" Melisca interrupted. She doesn’t like this kind of scenes. And it was the least she’d expected when she got out of the organization’s behind the scenes reality.
"To have lunch with you, of course." Lorna exclaimed.
She can sense an eyeroll there like she doesn’t have to ask anymore. Then Lorna threw a glare at Carmen’s way.
"What’s your intention?" She asked the redhead.
Carmen shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing. Just want to be more friendly. It would be an honor to be friend with a star trainee." Her smile reminded her of Tyla. Sweet but strangely dangerous somehow.
"Fine then. You can have lunch with us." She started to walk ahead.
Lorna’s mouth gasped open. "What? You’ll let her—"
"—Lorna, you don’t have any rights to oppose who I want to get acquainted with." She said in matter of fact as she turned to face her and directly said it to the girl’s face.
Actually, she didn’t really care about what the girl wants with her but she doesn’t like it when she opposes her decision or what she’d like to do.
Lorna closed shut her mouth and bowed her head as she bit her lower lip. She couldn’t blame Liz for saying that to her. She knew that she was isolating her from everybody. She was just worried that she might be involved with the wrong people. But then, she understood that she may have crossed the line.
"Sure. She can join us, then." She raised her head and glanced at Carmen, she was expecting a triumphant smile from the woman but then, she was only looking at her without any emotions. She wished she taunted her so that she would hate her more. But the longer she looked at her, she can somehow sense a sympathy in her gaze.
She scoffed and turned to Liz again. "I won’t complain anymore." She pouted.
"Good." Melisca shook her head and continued down the hall. The two girls followed her.
The lunch passed by quickly. Though Lorna was mostly quite the whole time, it was only when she asked her what’s in the folder but she only answered that it’s confidential and she didn’t even know herself.
Carmen was being friendly and Melisca was a bit surprised by knowing the woman was somehow interesting. As it turned out, Carmen also came from a training camp before and they shared some knowledge together.
When she finished her meal, she reached the folder which set aside. She turned her chair to her left so that her back would be against the wall and no one could take a look over it. She was about to open the folder when a shadow loomed over them, behind Lorna.
"Hello girls. I’m sorry but I had to take away one of you." Josh greeted everybody at the table but he switched glances to the two girls. Then his eyes settled on Melisca. "Lorwey, please come with me."
How wrong timing could it be? She hadn’t even taken a glimpse of any information inside. She could be accused of not reading the material they’d gave. She grumbled inwardly and stood up. But she was thrilled to know the actual details verbally from the HC team. She’ll finally get to know who this Calicia Wymers is. That even Ezekiel had ask her about her.
