Chapter 78: Uh Oh x2 - Alice Survival Guide

Selene’s eyes fluttered open, blinked, rubbed her eyes, then blinked again as her iris glanced upon the sky. Silvery fogs cluttered into each other, one that she clearly recognised as different from Demond, one that is less controlled, more volatile. A scaled dome has surrounded the town to clash against it, yet the dome’s small cracks of frostbite cackled a loud cry, still steady, still will hold, albeit barely, as the fog’s frost pollens gnawed away the dome like a divine beast’s hunger, except there is none of the divinity in its desperation to consume all.

Ah, she must be dreaming again. Selene smiled in relief at the wondrous scenery that resembled amagaden clashing against a mere turtle before closing her eyes to sleep, wondering if one plus two equals five, her limbs still feeling like soggy twigs after the ritual. until a voice called out to her, one serpentine calmness that underlined cautiousness.

"It seems you have awakened. I would suggest you run now."

Selene blinked her eyes again before swinging her waist to sit up, her gaze falling upon that ’susipicous-troped’ character, her emerald greens evver smiling, albeit...a slight trembling...well, it is not slight, as if this suspicious person is experiencing another PTSD of her own, the Dragon Elder’s grant thought of ’I want to get out of here already’ eluding the mortal Selene.

"Ah...what’s happening?" Selene pointed upwards at the fog, the hero’s gentle as if embedded within, ’carrased’ the dome’s crack as it chipped the gap further and further.

"Hm. It seems our...hero has arrived with her usual...uh, welcoming." The scientist smiled, unaware the smile could barely hid the absolute tremor and the sheer nervousness behind her voice. She is a mad scientist, but not a ’mad’ scientist. And Alice? If she caught her here in Rouen? She has dissected hundreds of vampires to understand what will happen, and the hypothesis concluded? Well, one simple word: Run. Just run.

"Welcoming? But Alice is...uh, I feel like I said something similar long ago..." Recalling her conversation with Manasseh, the tired knight sighed, partly of exhaustion, partly of sorrow knowing from the whispers that her temporary...admitted first friend has been lost.

"Alright...I mean too many things happen at once today, so I can’t keep up, and I won’t ask more." Selene’s smushy brain goofed as she stood up, her confusion left behind with a ’not-my-business’ mindset.

Yet that mindset is questioned, however, as she blinked. From the sky, a frost pollen glittered, her violet eyes following with wonders. The scenery of a lone frosty fragility attracted Selene with a solemn beauty, as she stretched out her palm, the pollen pooled and tickled her skin like a child’s giggle.

...tickle? Right...tickle...Selene narrowed her eyes as she turned to the suspicious person, then widened in surprise, who already had her back from afar, striding away with resolve never-been-seen-before from the indifferent scientist.

"Hey! C-calm down! These things are not-"

Then, a loud crack echoed from behind her, sounds of marbles cricketing as waters freezing. Selene turned around, her mouth gaped open, for the fountain she dipped her sword into was now utterly frozen, her precious silver sword along with it, staring at her as if asking why did the knight abandoned it in this frozen hell.

Selene blinked, then blinked again, as another snow pollen dropped afloat. This time, she watched carefully as the pollen fell to the ground, before a massive glitters of ice spread over it in an instant like a mini-meteorite dropped, as the poor Druid yelped and lifted her leg before the spread reached just below her foot.

"Wha-wha-what the hell?!"

She then turned to the ’suspicious-troped’ woman for answers, before realising she had completely disappeared! Literally, disappeared! Like she had a blink device waiting just for this moment!

Then, it is not just one snow pollen slowly falling. Selene looked up again, this time not one, not two, but get this, a hundred of them slowly, surely, fell to their deaths, each giggling a catastrophic fate this town will surely face.

And so the pollen fell to the rooftops, pavements, buildings, windows, and runed stones, each bursted out immediate to cackle a frozen wasteland, dubbed the world’s slowest missile strikes. If Demond were to see this destruction, a need for a ’Geneva Convention’ in this cruel world would be obvious, for this sight alone violated at least 14 treaties, brought to you by Uncle France and Britain.

The shocked Druid witnessed the scenery, as each and every spot was slowly, yet suddenly painted ice, her home absolutely marred by not an early winter, but an early ice purgatory. All of her town, ice! Left? Right? Forward? Backward? Centre? Right below her? Ice!

Right...come to think of it, she vaguely recalled she slept a lesson her mother sternly ingrained into her, about the Northland incident, something about the eternal ices and snows falling upon the Northland with one spell casted by Alice.

"...haha."

And so, Selene merely stood, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath, before smiling in relief.

"I must still be dreaming."

Her chest’s heart was oddly calm, her throat now breathing frosted fog at the sudden drop in temperature. Her body shivered in the absolute zero, as her smiley outlook never left her face. The beautiful serendity from this glacial rain brought a comfort to Selene’s immature mind, and she thought, for a moment, that the dull Town of Rouen could use a different look.

Of course, that’s until another ’pollen missile’ dropped and exploded right beside her as the knight stumbled with a scream. "Aaaaaaaaah! I’m sorry! I will run now! No no no!"

Her feet bolted away from the street, as she, from the bottom of her heart, sincerely thanked her mother for those ’12-hour exercise’ she has been punished with for oversleeping, as the lone figure clutching her head crying and yelling without feeling her lungs burning, ran among the explosions, pollen freezing a bench as she just vaulted over it with shedding tears.

-----------

"All citizens from Rouen! Stand still! And do not stand near any object!"

As Adil ran across the street, she gathered up her recovered, youthful voice, not to sing valors or honours, but to merely scream among the icy missles. She would have surfed a mud-tide or surging root like a skateboard as efficiency, but...well, Alice happened and even those ’children’ she rode were frozen as well.

Crowds panicked as they laid down and held their heads, as if all, it shall be repeated, all has been sternly educated ’how to protect yourself when a hero comes’ lesson, except Selene apparently, which Adil would have sighed has she seen her daughter running around like a goofball.

Adil threw a purse from a man’s hand into a building, then ran as the child cried for the ’petty frost’ which cruelly froze her doll in the wasteland. No tint of guilt could be found from Adil, however, as she merely continued to dash, her young and strengthful hand yanking anything valuable, a merchant’s gold watch, an adult’s marriage ring, a herbalist’s newest medicine, and threw them over the door and the window that remained miraculously unfrozen.

Alice’s magic, she has determined, would only freeze ’objects’, not people. As another pollen fell off Adil, her steps remained steady as she continued her throwing exercise, a special treatment of keeping as many precious gifts as possible, against the hero who bombarded her city.

...she must ask the Queen for a plentiful, bountiful compensation. Echoing the exact same sentiment with a certain Dragon Elder, Adil the Druid groaned in desperation, as she bolted for another valuable good to be ’protected’.
