Chapter 77: Uh Oh x2 - Parenting Failure
Chapter 77: Uh Oh x2 - Parenting Failure
In the clear field that used to house a garden, Demond groaned as she sat on the dried ground, her back leaning into the soft ’pillows’ as she groaned out another puff of smoke, the witch’s tipping up just enough for her to gaze at the foggy sky, that was now covered by a scaled barrier with the honoured <Dragon Language>. "Say, Adrei?"
"Hm?"
"Now that I think about it," Demond frowned as she glanced over her shoulder, her husband’s eyes darting away as if expecting what her wife’s question. "You never, ever told me how Alice did in the war. I only read from the letter that she one-shot the demon king, but...don’t tell me there’s something you’re hiding there?"
Adrei’s tail twitched, the tail that used to be raised high to tease her wife’s waist or cheek now hung low like a puppy unable to lie, her eyes still away. "She did well."
"...she did well?"
"She did well." Adrei’s claws dug into the earth, the same way they had when Alice ’accidentally’ erased a mountain range, then proceeded to casually drop some roughly made glaciers as an apology.
"Then why Adil run to evacuate the town like a walking embodiment of a nuke coming to Rouen?" The witch’s frown curled into a scowl.
Adrei chuckled, the slightly uneven rhythm...nervousness? Adrei, the Dragon Queen who slaughtered her kins in a beat, the Honourless Peacekeeper who willed her pride out for a handshake with humanity, now nervous? How ridiculous is Alice’s exploit that had her scared like that?
"Alice is...well, a resonable person, most of the time." Adrei sighed, her pupils dilating like the first time Alice had frostbited her throat at the negotiation table. "Distrustful of us at first, eventually our cooperation to annihilate the demons together brought humanity and Dragons together."
"Shush, I know that for a long long time, Adrei." The witch rolled her eyes, as if Alice hadn’t bragged to her countless times through their exchanges. "So? What would her ’unreasonable’ be like then?"
"...before I answer, allow me to ask you one question, Demond."
The ice witch raised her brows, a never-before-seen serious expression from the dragon purred her curiosity, her smoke raising a silent agreement. "Go ahead."
"Do you know why the Human-demon War lasted for 2 years?"
"Because Alice."
"Wrong, Demond. Wrong."
The Dragon Queen solemnly shook her head, a wry smile taking over, the disbelief still fresh when she heard the speculation for the first time. "Because...Alice was waiting till we and her cooperate. We found belatedly a dragon’s vessel could contain the massive mana output that came with each disaster thrown, so...."
"....don’t tell me..."
"If-if Alice was to go all out without us as....’necessary baggages’, she called it," the Dragon glanced towards the sky, a chuckle escaping her lips. The Sky Dragon she massacred...wished to conquer the sky against that Alice? They must have lost their mind.
"The Human-Demon War...would’ve ended in less than a day."
"..."
"..."
Demond’s smoke dropped in the silence, the cigarette’s bud on the thigh pained her, yet the utter shock washed over even the right to feel hurt.
"Ha...ha....hahahaha..." As if already finding her child’s secretly a millionaire, only to find again later her child’s the president of the entire country, Demond merely laughed. The stuttering cackle was like a broken clock’s final tick.
Then, something really broke inside her, like a needle that seeped into her ear was being pulled pulled out, as she glanced up towards the fogged sky, the fog...pulsed and glimmered, blinked like the tailors within panicking, fog toiling and collasping like hugging each other for inevitable, their fabrics shuffling and twirling like a scissor that was about to cut through them, one that would even put La Llorona’s slicing blood crosses into shame for even daring to compete against.
Then, the witch’s ears drummed, her nose bled a riverfall, as a familiar, squeaky, youthful, arrogant chant drunk her mind in mana pools, the tailors’ threads vibrating each and every syllables in her mind.
"A frosty invasion for Justice, hereby for my name!"
The fog, once stood as protection for Rouen, met a fierce rebellion from its own ally, as Demond frowned and wiped her nosebleed, before another splurge came from her nose.
"Coalesce my will as the land’s only snowfall, let evils cower by the tips of my Judgement!"
The fogs, dense as Demond’s puffed smoke, now was being forced gaping open for another entry. Demond widened her eyes and glanced at the panicking Adrei who was yelling something, her muddled ears too shuffed to listen, the only power remaining to echo the mage’s tiding waves of thoughts was Alice’s last and final hammered proclaimation.
"And so, this lone monarch shall remain, as the one who wept only frosts!"
The fog shattered, crashed, scrambled away like fabrics torn open, like tailors scurrying away from a chainsaw, as Demond widened her eyes, glancing at the snowflakes descended on the Dragon’s barrier, glitters of frosted dusts cackling the dome as she heard a grunt from Adrei, before she blinked, blinked again, then faced reality by looking upwards.
"Ho-ly-shit, what the hell is that?!"
A glaicer...a glacier?! Can that thing the size of a hundred whales combining, covering the entire sky from here to there...a fucking glacier?!
The witch’s mouth dangled, blood still dripping from her dried lips, as shades of that ’glacier’ enveloped both her and her husband. The entire clearing was an abyssal depth she never wished to glance upon. She gazed afar. Mmm, just shadow. She gazed behind her. Mmm, just shadow. Yep...this thing’s shadow alone covered the entire town already, and judging by that massive volume that combined a hundred thousand whales into one....probably outside the town’s clearings as well.
The poor gargolytes circled the massive-not-so-massive glacier, their wings fluttering, fluttering, then...stuttering, a visibly slowed rhythm like a slowing tremor that cracked their loyalty to the mistress. Their red eyes glanced upward. Ah, mistress? What is that? Can we eat it? Those thoughts flowed into the stone statue’s mind, their indifferent, unmoving eyes now trembling jewels from a rabbit, as if their stoney fear desperately cling to some sense of dreams that this...this is not real.
Then, a crack twitched the ’glacier’, the slow creak was like a sealed, Divine titan that would walk out of the pure ice, before Demond widened her eyes as if in realisation, the master of <Fairytale> Series decipehring chant like a historian under deciphering morse code while being chased by a rolling ball.
"Snowfall...wept frosts...ah, Adrei! Adrei!"
Even with her ears muddled, Adrei’s brows furrowed, nodding, before Demond’s heavy mind ticked a deadline of ten seconds to relay her words out, her mind already strained from enduring Alice’s chant. "That...that thing will explode!"
Then as the glacier twitched, the crack gaped before blasting open, jagged edges of glaciers now frosty fogs that resembled her father’s, if not for swarming amount of frosty pollens embedded within. Both, the Dragon and the Witch, the former watched in a knowing horror, the other watched in an unknowing shock, as the stone statues were engulfed by the fog, frost pollens embedding into the stones. There was no escape, no last struggle as everything happened in a flash, and the gargolytes were...frozen mid-air? The statues...they all froze mid-air, as if time existed to stop around Alice’s mana, the laws of physics, space and time all bowed before the hero’s little tinkering chant.
Yet the fog is unstable as it spreaded outwards, the dome grinding agasint the frost pollens. Each and every dusts a titan that threatened to sear open the Dragon’s will, as Adrei gritted her lips, blood seeping as her scowl deepened. The Tragedy that is known as ’oops, accidentally freezing the entire Northland’ Incident shall not occur here, especially not when citizens were just recovering from La Llorona’s influence!
The witch blinked, then blinked again, as her husband shivered like a tiny animal against a tiger. Here, it must be referenced. Remember the mini-suns that Adrei used against La Llorona? Now imagine the magnitudes of those violent sages were embedded in each and every dusts the fog scattered around like fishman spraying baits in the vast sea. Yes, this is what the Dragon Queen is combatting against, her pride as an annihilator? She merely annihilated a clan; Alice annihilated almost every demon clans that have been recorded to exist, only sparing some for a...’reluctant’ peace treaty.
"...I’m so going to nail that brat against a wall the moment I see her..." With another nosebleed, Demond’s eyelid dropped just as her body lied on the mud, the last thing she witnessed was a frost pollen falling before glittering across the ground.
This is a mere glance at the absolute struggle the Town of Rouen shall now face, their greatest and only enemy? Alice the Hero, the Massacrer of Demons, the Bringer of Peace and only Peace.
