The Reaper's Wicked Obsession -
Chapter 99: We Both Cheated
Chapter 99: We Both Cheated
Rav sighed heavily. "He told me everything, about what she did... to the Snákr."
"And what exactly is that?"
Rav narrowed his eyes. "That she tamed a sigil beast."
"Maybe she did," he replied. "A foolish thing to do." The look in his eyes darkened as he glared hard at her sleeping form like he wanted to cut her open.
Rav felt uneasy about this. "Kraven," he began. "She needs to—"
"She stays here." The dagger rotating between his fingers stopped, as his gaze on Isadora finally veered to Rav.
A sudden chill grasped Rav’s spine at the look Kraven pinned him with. His thirst was on the surface like a bloodthirsty vermin and he did nothing to hide it.
He always hid it. But naturally, it would get harder to mask, because his powers grew alongside it.
It made Rav wonder how long he had before he went berserk. They never saw this coming, at least not now.
There was no way Rav was leaving Isadora here with him in such a vulnerable position.
"I think she should stay with me until she recovers."
Kraven’s smile slowly faded. "Are you objecting, Raviel?" he asked in an icy tone, the heavy pressure clinging to the air like poison.
For Isadora’s sake, he would. "Yes."
Kraven chuckled deeply, his laughter gradually escalating into a full burst. His shoulder shook, and his hand covered his face as he took his head backward in amusement.
But then, like a snap of a finger, the sound eased and silence filtered through the air. Bringing his head forward he parted his fingers to reveal his silver eyes gleaming.
"Of course, you would, for your precious Isadora," he said, dryly, removing the hand away from his face, he leaned forward. "Even if I cut your throat now, would you still object?"
Rav teeth clenched. "Kraven."
He chuckled. "I’m joking," he voiced, but nothing in his tone stated he was. "We should do that once in a while, Raviel, it lightens the mood." He sheathed his dagger back in his holster and rose to his feet.
"I’m in need of a drink, today’s events were..." he paused in thought. "...Stressing."
"Didn’t you enjoy the sight of Isadora struggling for her life? That was what you wanted in the first place, wasn’t it?"
"Hmm..." he murmured. "A drink, Raviel." He walked to the door.
Rav hesitated but he knew this was a better option than leaving Isadora alone in a room with Kraven.
He followed.

The Feast Hall was empty, however, Logi was present, drowning himself in a bottle of ale. He paused the action with puffed cheeks watching as Kraven and Rav entered the hall.
He swallowed hard. "Am I drunk already?" He stared at the half empty bottle and then back at them.
Kraven stopped in front of him, snatching the bottle away from him, and without breaking eye contact, chugged the rest of it.
He pushed the bottle against Logi’s chest and strode toward the head table.
Logi tipped the wooden bottle upside down, just a drop came out. "You finished it."
"Then work your ass and get another."
Logi lifted his gaze to Rav. "Tell me you didn’t irk him."
Rav shrugged in response.
"Isadora," Logi said her name like it was the manufacture of every distress and it was.
"Shut up, Logi," Rav said, walking past him.
"Don’t tell me to shut up!" he mumbled, staggering toward them, and clumsily took a seat.
He chuckled. "The last time we had a drink like this, there was blood everywhere." He clasped his hands together in a mocking plea. "Do not spill blood," he said to Rav.
"It’s one of my most refreshing moments," Kraven mused.
Rav was suddenly buried in guilt. "I’m sorry about what I said, I didn’t mean it."
"Don’t apologize to me, Rav," Kraven said with a sudden frown. "Ee’ma tehaay ohloda maanan’so soohan anfateayra anlolo," he added in Faetong.
(I’m the old man’s son after all)
Rav only nodded in silence, before drinking from the horned cup. He said that like it was nothing but Rav still couldn’t shake the feeling off.
Kraven veered his gaze back to Logi and grinned. "I hope you enjoy your newest role."
Logi scoffed. "Of course, you won the wager." He pointed out. "You knew from the start, didn’t you?"
Kraven licked his lips in delight. "Your point is?"
Logi exhaled sharply. "Of course you did. You cheated and I cheated too but it still didn’t matter, you got what you wanted in the end. Kraven, The Raven Lord, known to the Realm as Daudi’s Reaper." He raised a cup. "You always get what you want."
"You cheated?" Kraven asked, feigning ignorance. "I didn’t think you’d stoop so low with your intellect."
Logi caught on to this but still said nevertheless. "I made the law know Isadora was a skin weaver, I knew what beast she would face if I did that, and it would lead to her death."
He turned his head to Rav, who glared holes into his head. "Puncture something else, stupid."
"And here I thought she was a line that should not be crossed," Rav said, frustrated. "And yet you still cast game dice upon her fate."
The more he thought about it the more riled up he got, he knew he shouldn’t let his emotions get the better of him but this was Isadora.
"Correction, I already did it before the drink and dine, so don’t blame me."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?"
"Oh come on, you idiot, acting all high and mighty because you care for Isadora and yet you didn’t have the balls to watch her fight to the death!"
Rav’s fist clenched at his words. It doesn’t matter how much he hated every single word that came out of Logi’s mouth. He was right.
"You should have seen her..." Logi stated, his green eyes glimmering like they had witnessed a lifetime of wonder. "She was fucking phenomenal."
