Chapter 100: A Mate For The Madman
Chapter 100: A Mate For The Madman
"Right, Kraven?" Logi veered his gaze at him.
"Yes... she was," he replied breathlessly.
"Cheers to your win then. I know by your decree she won, after all, the mannfae we all wished dead is still alive and breathing." Logi took a drink from the wooden cup.
Rav gulped, taking in everything, especially Logi’s words and suddenly it felt like the dots were connecting.
But it couldn’t be right. Maybe he was overthinking it. But the more his mind placed the pieces together it felt like a discovery was unearthed.
He couldn’t contain it any longer, an inescapable feeling storming his body, his mouth moving before he could control it.
"It was all your plan," he mumbled.
Kraven chuckled softly. "What is it, Raviel? Coming to some fruition?"
"Logi’s words; Everything worked according to your plan," Rav mumbled. "Does this mean..." He swallowed thickly. "Our five winters journey, stumbling upon a town on the east coast, a particular brothel, was not a coincidence?"
Kraven’s cheek pressed against the back of his hand. "Coincidence? I never said anything about it being such, but if that is the word you’re looking for... then go with it."
Rav sneered, but the sound did not reach his heart. He succumbed to amusement because he finally realized just how stupid he was.
How much of a fool he had been the whole time as everything played before his eyes. Yet... he did not see it until now.
Logi and Kraven must surely think of him as a fool at this very moment but he did not care... not anymore.
"You meant to find Isadora that day," He lifted his gaze to Kraven’s. "Killing the Jarlas because you knew she was sold to them, taking her..." his teeth clenched. "Your five winters journey was to find her."
Logi cleared his throat, grabbed a cup close to his chest, and sank into his chair.
"I really am stupid. I never thought of this, I just thought it was nothing more but a plan to somehow confuse the five courts, to create a persona to throw them off our trails." He shook his head. "But it wasn’t."
"Hmph, that is good thinking on your part and it might suffice. Killing two birds with one stone was always the trick."
"But it wasn’t," he enforced, his tone holding a weight as he glared at Kraven with fire in his gaze, the room temperature increased as it got hotter.
"Yes, it wasn’t," Kraven replied coolly.
Rav exhaled sharply, reclining in his seat, and running a hand over his face.
"The sudden declaration of Isadora participating in the Hunt... disrupting the peace in the Court. Knowing she would be condemned, knowing she would not stay still and let the ravenites eat her alive. Knowing she would eventually become a warrior and set toward the path of... trying to prove herself." He breathed. "Knowing she would not bear to stay weak."
"I’m not as smart as Logi who claims he’s a child of the god of wisdom, you give me too much credit, Rav."
"But the credit is earned. You manipulated her every move, used her emotion and she played right into your fingers without realizing it." He pointed to Logi but made no effort to spare him a glance. "Her fate had already been decided, he said. You played god in her life."
Kraven said nothing, entertained, and awaited more of Rav’s deduction as if he had anticipated it.
"Just to get what you wanted."
"What exactly did I want, Raviel?"
He scoffed, utterly awestruck and undone. "All this was just to keep her at your side but to do so you didn’t want her weak."
Kraven’s silence was all the answer he needed.
"WHY?" Rav roared as the fires in the hall spiked and flapped. His scarlet eyes glimmered dangerously. "Why would you go to such lengths, to ruin, break and make her suffer? Giving her the illusion she had her choice!"
"Haven’t you realized it yet?" The look in Kraven’s eyes suddenly turned maddening as his rage mirrored Rav’s, but what made his more unhinged was the grin still plastered on his lips.
Rav stared at him confused, still trying to search his brain for any reason why he would go through all that just for her.
"Of course... you wouldn’t believe I had one, to begin with."
"Kraven." Logi interrupted.
"A mate."
Rav’s heart skipped a beat and his eyes widened in shock. "You’re lying."
"Am I?"
"Y-You tethered?"
"Yes, he did. He tethered to a mannfae, now the secret is out." Logi said, rolling his eyes. "But I must give you the credit Rav, your deduction was perfect, I suggest drinking more ale to give more life to your brain."
"This shouldn’t be possible."
Kraven’s eyelid switched. "Is a madman incapable of having one?"
"That is not what I mean and do not guilt trip me. You know what I mean!"
"Ah yes, it is not today’s history that mannfaes are rare breeds, and not only do they have shortened lifespans, they are incapable of tethering, hence incapable of having a mate." Logi rumbled on.
"But Alas! I’m starting to doubt the knowledge we have of mannfaes. However, this does not stop the truth. Kraven has a mate, the goddess loves you so much."
Kraven rolled his eyes at Logi’s words. "Elska should be pleased."
Rav sighed heavily, his body quivered not from the rage he had earlier but from the realization.
It should have been anyone else, It shouldn’t have been Isadora.

Nyssa heard everything from the door, her body trembled, and her eyes were wide in shock, her ears must be deceiving her but that was only telling herself a lie.
Rav and Kraven’s exchange was a revelation.
In a ragged breath, she turned on her heels and walked away, not once did she stop.
Her looks distraught as she stormed to the secluded part of the mountain, arriving at Kraven’s chambers.
Her footsteps echoed in the room, the dim lighting causing a serenity to the place. A dark look took over her face as she laid eyes on a sleeping Isadora on Kraven’s bed.
She stepped closer, a dagger in hand.
