Chapter 52: A Laugh For Depression
Chapter 52: A Laugh For Depression
One minute the air grew tense and it got harder to breathe. The drastic change caused Isadora to be on alert, however, like a flick of a finger the pressure vanished and a wide smile found his lips.
"How would you like to get stronger, Isadora?" he suddenly asked, changing the rhythm of the situation.
"Is this one of your games again?" she asked. "Or is this because of the wager you made?"
"I don’t like losing..." he replied. "...so yes."
"So it is about the wager! I’m not dancing to your tone, Kraven."
"You already are, love."
Isadora wanted to slap him hard or bash his head with a rock. The hot anger rolling off her was too much to contain.
Maybe it was because she knew he was right—and hated it even more.
"Angry?" he teased with a raised eyebrow, even though he could clearly see it. He wanted her anger and her hate.
It was delicious, as her lips tasted.
At the thought he leveled his eyes back on them again, tempting and sinful.
He wanted her to drown earlier, it would have been peaceful for her. An easier way to go since she couldn’t handle the drastic changes in her life.
But her soul sang to him and he came for it. He had reaped her soul but not for Daudi.
"I’ll be back when you have a fitting answer," he turned his back and vanished in a weave of shadow.
Isadora rubbed her eyes just to make sure she wasn’t seeing things but it was as real as ever.
"W-Where did he go?" she said looking around but there were no traces of him. She gulped when her eyes found the fresh set of clothes beside a tree and woods to start a fire.
"He’s serious!"

"Why did you do it?" Rav asked, watching as Logi struggled to bandage his hand, but he was making a mess.
"Let me help—"
"Don’t!" Logi snapped, raising his other hand, it paused mid-gesture.
He chuckled and murmured to himself. "Why did I? You say?" he continued his struggle. "Stopping Nyssa from spilling unwelcomed blood is not a crime!"
He was right but it didn’t change what he did.
"You saved Isadora," Rav clarified, which was an odd thing for Logi to do, however he was thankful he did. "I couldn’t get to her in time, thank you"
"By the olden gods, it was not my intention to save her...." Logi said through clenched teeth. "You’re all so dumb! Dumb, dumb, dumb!"
Rav narrowed his eyes in confusion, sensing how aggravated he was than usual.
"And why are you so obsessed with her, huh?" Logi suddenly asked, tying the knot of the bandage with his teeth.
"And don’t tell me the moons you spent with her caused some... feelings" he added glaring at the hammer on the table and then his hand.
In anger he flung his beloved tool against the wall. What was the use of that stupid thing when he can’t use it anymore? The words of the skin weaver still haunted him.
After this damage he could never recover his hand.
"I’m not obsessed with her," Rav said, taking a seat.
"Ha! Smart answer because you would have ended up like me, huh? A handicap!"
Rav’s face formed in a frown, pondering if the situation was getting to Logi’s head harder than he thought. Now he was speaking gibberish.
"When we were traveling back, we crossed a supernatural place called the abyss," he began in a solemn tone.
Logi was the last person he wanted to tell, but this situation left him no choice.
"The phantoms there tried to poison our minds... it..." he paused rubbing his face. "It showed me Eris."
Logi paused and looked over his shoulders.
"Of course, I didn’t tell Kraven, he would have gone into a spiral again."
"Poor Rav," Logi said, turning and leaning against the table. "Do you see Isadora as your sister?"
"She reminds me of her" he confessed.
"Hmm" he made a sound, scratching the back of his head. "Hence, why you’re obsessed"
"I’m not obsessed!" he snapped.
If Logi was trying to get under his nerves then it was working. Discussing this with him was a bad idea after all.
"I’m just worried about her. Kraven pulled her into this world and she doesn’t deserve it, he planned all of this, like her fate is in his hand or something" he said, clamping his hands together, an irritated look carved across his face.
"The Kraven I know is never captivated with anyone, gods know Nyssa has been by his side for winters and he never once looked her way."
Logi chuckled. "Stupid, you have no idea."
"Is there something you want to tell me, then say it!" Rav growled, hating his indirect insults.
He chuckled again, louder this time. "What? They say laughter is the key to any depressing situation," he pointed to him. "And yours is very depressing, let’s all have a laugh shall we?"
"How did you hurt your hand in the first place?"
"Touched someone," he replied like the passing wind, looking to the side.
"An angry lover?" Rav asked again, but he knew no one would dare to challenge a commander. So what mess did he get himself into?
"Far from it... but it was worth it," Logi said, rubbing his hand. The memory plagued him, a smile on his lips. But he blinked it away and faced Rav.
"You can’t control that girl’s fate... I don’t think anyone can," he said. "She’s a fighter in the worst way possible."
"You sound interested in her, yourself," Rav said, not liking the idea.
"Oh I am... especially when I found out what kind of weaver she is..."
Rav froze.
"Kraven brought in quite a stray" he mused.
Rav rose to his feet, his composure calm yet threatening.
"Relax, Rav," he said, then hushed him by placing a finger on his lips. "Her secret is safe with me."
