Chapter 49: At The Teeth Of A Tigress
Chapter 49: At The Teeth Of A Tigress
Exclamations and gasps rippled through the crowd the moment Isadora made a declaration for a duel.
Rav stared at her in shock, he was hoping he heard wrong but he did not.
Who told her to do something as crazy as this? Was it Kraven? That can’t be right because he was in his slumber right now.
"Isadora," Rav said, stunned.
Isadora spared a look at him and narrowed her eyes, he was too much in shock and it got her confused.
Nyssa slowly turned to her with a raised eyebrow before a scoff escaped her.
"You wish to duel with me?" she said. "Do you have any idea what that means?"
"Yes" Isadora said with hesitancy as her eyes locked on all eyes on her.
’It’s just as Cai said, it seems a duel is the right way to have a voice around here,’ she thought with a gulp.
Throwing words around will not help her and she does not wish to be labelled as a cheater during her stay here.
If word gets to Lord Raven it would make it hard to appeal to him. ’I’m doing this for my survival’
"Fine... you have a duel."
"Nyssa, wait..." Rav began.
"This is her choice, Rav, so stay out of this or do you wish to make her a laughing stock if she can’t take on a duel she declared herself?" she said, with a smirk.
Rav’s teeth clenched, he had a feeling she would enjoy this, using this opportunity to humiliate Isadora beyond recovery. Her eyes said it all.
Isadora had no idea what she had gotten herself into.

"Nyssa is the best female warrior in the court, what you did was insane." Rav whispered in a hush tone but his voice held urgency and worry.
"This is the only way, Rav."
"Only way for what? What did I tell about not doing anything stupid"
Isadora chewed the inside of her mouth, she couldn’t possibly tell him her reasons. If he figured she was trying to appeal to Lord Raven for mercy he might convince her it was a bad idea.
"You don’t believe in me..." she began, voicing her second reason. "Which is why I wanted permission to run the Spine again."
Rav was taken aback by her words, unable to believe she would risk her life again just because he didn’t believe her.
"But I knew that wouldn’t work, there is no proof I ran the Spine," she faced him with stern eyes. "If fighting Nyssa can prove my innocence and stop being gossiped about then I’ll take this chance, even if I won’t win it"
"Isadora," he said softly.
He had no idea she thought deeply about this. She was hurting so much and it was stupid of him not to realize it until now. Maybe he did but he chose to ignore it because he thought she would eventually get over it.
But Isadora wasn’t that kind of person.
"Fine, I’ll trust you with this... but heed my words Isadora, you’re in the teeth of a tigress" he voiced. "So please redraw from this and don’t get devoured and you will."
Isadora stubbornly shook her head and stepped forward to the center.
Nyssa awaited her as she paced. A smirk found her lips upon seeing the stray about to be torn to bites.
"Since you have no experience, I’ll make it easier for you," Nyssa said, walking over to grab wooden swords and tossing one to Isadora to catch.
She caught it, but clumsily.
Isadora straightened her stance and gulped, watching as Nyssa skillfully rotated her wooden sword on the ready.
A strong gust of wind suddenly swept through, causing Isadora to close her eyes briefly. The moment she opened them, Nyssa was right in front of her, slamming her sword into her stomach.
It felt like her insides were crushed by rock causing bile to fill her throat, she half expected to vomit what she had for breakfast but crimson liquid spilled out instead and she fell to her knees.
"Never pick a fight with a predator," Nyssa said. "Because you’ll get eaten!" she kicked her and the force pushed her body backwards.
Isadora released a sharp breath, struggling to breathe from the pain. The difference between their strength was far too great.
Rav anxiety grew. He wanted to stop this but he couldn’t when the duel had started, he couldn’t interfere unless she yielded.
’Please yield, Isadora,’ he thought.
"Yield!" Nyssa yelled. "Or do you want more whooping?" she added, watching Isadora struggling to stand.
This was a waste of her time because it was akin to fighting a fly but she must admit she enjoyed it. It would definitely be enough reason not to her face again.
To be humiliated in front of all the warriors was one thing, but a cheater put in her place was like having a lifelong scar.
Isadora stood to her feet, her body on the verge of collapsing but she raised her sword.
Growling, Nyssa charged at her again, this time deliberately breaking her sword in two to reduce Isadora’s chances.
She struck Isadora in the same spot with the back of her sword, causing her to collapse.
"This fight is over... she is incapable of yielding or finishing what she started." Nyssa declared as she turned on her heels to walk away.
Suddenly, a sound reached her pointed ears, causing her to pause. It was the sharp sound of fingers digging into the ground.
Nyssa grew frustrated as she turned and found Isadora struggling to her feet.
’This pest!’ she thought in rage as she charged at her again.
If she so wishes to be beaten to death then so be it!
Nyssa swung her weapon, faster than her eyes could follow, Isadora revealed a dagger and sliced through her.
Nyssa stepped back in shock, the pain registering as her eyes landed on her arm, blood oozing from the wound.
Isadora spat a mouth full of blood and said. "In a raven duel there are no rules... give anything to win" she quoted the words Cai told her.
Nyssa’s wide eyes landed on the dagger, seeing the marking engraved in them she realized who it belonged to. It was Kraven’s.
Rage blinded her, not because the stray caused her to falter, but because of what Isadora had in her possession. She grabbed the whip secured at her waist and swung it for the kill.
But a hand shot out, catching it before it could take Isadora’s head.
