Chapter 117: Twisted Jealousy

Vanya gave a sign that she had something to do before quickly walking away.

Isadora glanced at her retreating form, confused. Where could she be going? She wasn’t sure Vanya had other things to do because they were instructed to train for the whole day.

"You should cover up more, your cheeks are red," Rav said, brushing his thumb briefly against her soft skin. "It’ll get colder, Wintermoon’s close."

"Shouldn’t you cover up too?" Isadora asked, blushing, unable to stop her gaze from descending on his body.

Almadra should be pleased.

He chuckled at her words. "I’m hot, Isadora, a few rounds with the others got me like this."

"Oh." She nodded, eyes veering to Nyssa training some warriors in techniques. "It seems we’d be seeing the commanders more often."

"Mostly me," Rav mused. "I have the majority of the crowned warriors under my wing." His eyes leveled on the bow she held. "So bow and arrow?" He raised an eyebrow

Isadora blushed. "Yes?"

Rav amusedly eyed the arrow on the ground. So many of them, signifying how many times she had failed.

"I’m making progress!" she defended, mostly embarrassed, others made fast improvements and she didn’t.

"I’m sure you are," he teased.

"It’s just hard, I’m not an expert like you." She pointed out, remembering how during their travels he showed the prowess of a master when it came to the bow.

"I’ll have you know, bows and arrows are my specialty. Let me help." He went behind her and held her arms, setting them in position.

Isadora gulped heavily at how close he was and how his body heat slipped into hers.

"You’re so hot," she voiced before she could stop herself, it felt like the sun was close to her.

Rav’s heart skipped a beat at her words. "I’m a fire weaver," he replied stiffly. "Being hot is one of my things."

"I guess that’s why Vanya is always cold most of the time," she mumbled.

Rav grabbed her other arm, enabling her to pull on the bowstring. "Ease yourself," he instructed.

"My muscles hurt."

"That’s because you’ve been straining yourself too hard. Maybe you should take a break."

"Not until I hit that mark," Isadora said determinedly.

Rav smiled, leaning more to her and Isadora tensed as his body pressed against her small frame. Rav was massive just like Kraven, it was hard to differentiate them sometimes.

"You left the ceremony early."

Isadora gasped, the action causing the arrow to release. This time, it didn’t strike the ground but pinned itself in the wood that held the target.

"I-I got a stomach ache."

Rav stared down at her with a worried expression.

"I had too much ale." She chewed the inside of her mouth, hating that she had to lie to him but she had to because the truth was something private.

Isadora discreetly adjusted the collar of her tunic to hide the red mark on her neck.

"Then you should be resting."

"That’s why I left earlier," she raised her arms and drew on the bowstring.

Rav was stunned by her composure, it was exactly how he had set her arm to correct her mistake.

He was unable to stop the smile curling his lips. She was a fast learner.

He held her arm again. "Now... don’t focus too much on the target."

"But I’ve to—"

"Focus too much and then you’ll miss." He leaned closer until she could feel his breath at the back of her neck. Goosebumps found her skin, and it got harder to concentrate.

"I’m at the same eye level as you and I can tell you are still focusing too much on the target." He adjusted her stance, bringing his other hand to her waist.

Isadora tensed at his action, she focused too much on the contact than what was in front of her. She bit her bottom lip eager to shut the swirls of thoughts drowning her head.

’He’s just showing you what to do, calm down Isa!’

"That’s better, now ease yourself, and loosen the strength on your upper body, you’re still too tense."

Isadora released a sharp exhale, relaxing her body more, ignoring the warmth of his skin.

"Good." Rav took a step back eyeing her perfect stance and deep concentration, not at the target but the bow itself. "Very good."

Isadora felt lighter than she originally was, the ache in her fingers from pulling the bowstring was gone, and her muscles didn’t ache either.

"Now... release."

She did as command and the arrow hit the target, not a bullseye but a far better progress.

A breathless smile escaped Isadora as she turned to him, all giggly.

"That was a terrible shot but still... progress." Rav chuckled.

"But I did it!" She jumped.

Rav was both stunned and amazed by how she could derive simple joy from a thing like this. But the sight of her, happy like a child having their first present. It was the purest thing he had ever seen.

Kraven watched the entire display from a distance, keeping his silver eyes pinned on Isadora, her bright expression, and her laughter as Rav mirrored them.

His jaw clenched, and the dagger swirling around his fingers increased in speed.

He had always enjoyed her defiance, the heated look in her eyes. It was intoxicating—Because he knew how to pull the sharpest reactions out of her, to make her tremble between anger, hate, and fear.

Those emotions pulsed the blood running through his veins, it was always satisfying to feed on.

Yet seeing this side of her, something he hadn’t fed on before. Soft, light, and pure. The smile taking over her lips, her eyes squinting. Her soft giggles, her playful antics.

They were something else, a new shade of her he had never seen, never tasted.

Kraven had never craved her laughter, smiles, and peace. But watching them spill so freely for another, an unfamiliar rage coiled around his ribs.

Earlier he had seen how Rav pinned her body to hers, free, relaxed without having a voice dictating his entire mood.

He was free.

Kraven didn’t know which burned his rage more, the emotions his little bunny showed to another or the envy he had for Rav.

’I, Kraven Val Thrond is envious of Raviel?’ he thought, chuckling to himself.

But yet the idea twisted something deep inside him, dark and ugly.

"It’s rare to see you here." Nyssa’s voice snapped him out of it.

His eyes dragged to her as she approached him under the shade.

"Whatever has caught your attention this fine noon?" She mused.

"We’ve newly crowned warriors," he replied as a brush-off, glancing back at them. "My presence is needed."

Something snapped in Kraven’s head when he saw Rav pinning his body to Isadora.

It was happening. Again.

Kraven’s breath slowed. His swirling dagger ceasing, holding it like he wanted to launch it into the air and aim it at a certain head.

Kraven studied with a dangerous glint in his eyes as Rav’s hand hovered near her waist, an excuse to set her posture right. Speaking low and drawing her attention.

And Isadora on the other hand, welcomed it. She was comfortable, not tense, not glaring holes at him, not moving away. Her face eased, her guard dropped and she was smiling, briefly looking at him with a sweet look.

Did she like the feel of his body? Like the way he held her? The look in her eyes told him what he needed to know.

Kraven’s lips parted, exhaling a slow, lethal breath. Sheathing his dagger back in his holster, he pushed off the wall and stepped forward.

The other warriors acknowledged his presence.

"Lord Raven!"

The arrow released and hit the red mark. Isadora turned her head and found Kraven approaching them with Nyssa by his side.

Isadora gulped as she set her eyes on him, his presence calling to the rest of the warriors like a beacon. Not once did he halt his steps until he stood before them.

"Kraven, it’s nice of you to be here," Rav said.

He knew Kraven rarely came to the training ground, even if he did, he did it in the shadows.

"How are the training regiments?" Kraven asked, a smile curling on his lips.

"Good as always, you’ve nothing to worry about."

"Can I count on you as always?" Kraven asked, amused. "You go the extra mile to ensure they have all the attention. Don’t you consider that too much? They end up focusing on other things."

Rav narrowed his eyes at his words.

"Isadora here, under your guidance." He pinned her with his gaze again. "Her focus is divided and her progress is slow."

Isadora chewed the inside of her mouth to keep from cursing him out loud. Judging by how tense the air was it seemed Kraven rarely came to the training grounds.

He was the center of all focus. Cursing him would not be a good idea but then she smirked and said. "Yes, Rav’s guidance is helpful... I’m still a bad shot but I’m making fast progress thanks to him."

Isadora eyed the arrow pinned on the red dot and veered them back to Kraven’s."His attention is welcomed, Lord Raven."
