Chapter 118: A Spar With Lord Raven
Chapter 118: A Spar With Lord Raven
Kraven burst into a peal of laughter, the loud amusement ringing through the air.
Isadora gulped, disturbed by the sound. She had said that to irk him but who knew he would derive amusement from it.
Kraven’s laughter melted into deep chuckles, a wicked grin curling his lips. His eerily silver eyes pinned on Isadora like the force of a predator marking its prey.
Her body tensed at the mere sight of them, they glimmered like he was about to unleash havoc.
"Raviel! A spar, I’d like to demonstrate what a deadly combat will look like to our crowned warriors."
At his outburst murmurs filtered through from the other warriors. They were all eager to witness such a spar, it was a rare occasion.
"Now this is something worth watching," Logi said, sitting at the top of the tower, watching the entire display from the beginning.
He took a bite from his apple and said with a mouthful. "I’m looking forward to seeing some blood."
Cai sighed, clicking his tongue. "Maybe you should calm down on the apples."
"No, my boy, do not question my favorite fruit, and watch... I’ve got a feeling it will get chaotic."
"It’s just a spar. I know it’s rare, but I’m looking forward to seeing Lord Raven fight. Is it true he fights without channeling his aura and everything is just raw strength?"
"Yes, Kraven rarely uses his aura, he’s a beast," Logi replied, taking another bite. "And it will be a bloodbath," he added, eyeing Rav.
"Why do you keep saying that?"
Logi sighed, using the boy’s knitted cap to cover his eyes.
"Hey!" He struggled to get it off.
Down below, Rav and Kraven were already within the sparring circle.
"Kraven, is this necessary? I’ve already demonstrated enough for them today," Rav explained, pondering why he wanted to do this.
"Are you scared I’ll beat you up, Raviel?" Kraven said, chuckling as he took off his tunic in a swift move.
"May the gods be praised," a female gasped breathlessly, while the others beside her sighed in ecstasy, casting flirtatious glances directed at Lord Raven.
Isadora side-eyed them before turning back to the display. Her nails found their way to her teeth, there was a feeling deep in her stomach and she couldn’t shake it off.
Something about this doesn’t feel right.
"Is it true, that Lord Raven rarely comes here?" Isadora asked, turning to Vanya.
Vanya nodded in response, unable to tear her gaze away from Kraven, more captivated by him, stirring a strange feeling in Isadora’s chest.
"He’s not that great," she mumbled.
"Think what you want, Mannfae, but the women think otherwise."
Isadora stilled when Dain stood at her side, shirtless, arms folded against his broad chest.
"Are you here to tell me how useless I am?" Isadora said bored, not ready to deal with his rude remarks.
"I think we might be friends." He grinned.
Isadora scoffed. "I never pictured you as someone who tells jokes." She spared him a look. "Mostly the boring ones."
Dain’s smirk faded. "Watch closely, Mannfae, it might be you next in that sparring circle, with a willing opponent."
Nyssa had her hand on her waist, eyeing Kraven and Rav. The tension between them was ardent, and the fight hadn’t begun.
"This is just a spar," she reminded them, hoping to maintain some kind of peace.
"Of course it is," Kraven mused, keeping his predatory gaze on Rav who returned the same.
"Maybe we should—"
"Just call it Nyssara!" Kraven snapped, getting impatient.
"Begin!" she announced stepping away from the circle.
"Did I do something to irk you again?" Rav asked, raising his fists.
"I don’t know, did you?"
Rav was the first to attack, throwing his punches which Kraven swiftly dodged.
"You’re stalling," Rav said, pausing his attacks.
A smirk spread on Kraven’s lips. "I like to watch my prey put up a little fight, it makes them more tasty." He veered his gaze to Isadora, who stiffened as they pinned on her, singling her out in the crowd.
A punch slammed into Kraven’s cheek, causing him to stagger.
"You should keep your eyes on what’s in front of you."
Kraven spat a tooth. "Ouch," he remarked, wiping the blood off and getting in a fighting stance. "Keep up, Raviel."
"You’re still—"
Rav’s entire body froze when Kraven came at him, fast and unseen, before he could respond to his attacks; his punches were already slamming against him repeatedly.
Determined to reduce the impact, he crossed his elbows as a block, but each hit felt like his bones would snap.
"By the olden gods," Dain said in astonishment, how many attacks had he landed in that little time?
Isadora’s pulse raced as her bites against her nails increased. This was getting too one-sided and harder to watch. Each hit felt like a sharp dagger to her heart.
Rav acted quickly by coiling his arm around Kraven’s, using the other, he aimed for a hit but Kraven stopped it just a few inches from his face.
Kraven chuckled, yanking his hand away and headbutting him with a menacing force.
Rav stumbled backwards, as everything spinned for a moment but gained his footing and charged toward Kraven again.
Silence engulfed the training grounds as all eyes locked on the two, fighting like demons, too fast for anyone to track their movements.
It got bloodier by the minute, but the two kept going as if the hits were nothing.
Isadora’s breathing hitched as she looked away.
"What’s wrong mannfae? Too bloody for you?"
"This is not a spar," she replied, with clenched teeth, her fists tightening at her sides.
’He’s doing this because I called him Lord Raven.’ she thought as bile filled her throat. All this for that? Maybe she was overthinking it, but there was a strong feeling that it was.
Isadora took a step back, eager to get away from this. The guilt gnawed at her insides attempting to crumble her.
But Dain’s hand on her back stopped her. "And where do you think you’re going? You should enjoy the fight a little longer."
