The Reaper's Wicked Obsession
Chapter 101: The Pact We Made

Chapter 101: The Pact We Made

"Fate has a way of surprising you... it always has," Nyssa said in an icy tone, glaring at Isadora’s sleeping frame.

"Ever since you stepped foot into this Court you’ve been nothing but a disease!" She seethed, stepping closer.

Her lips quivered profusely as she said. "You walked your way into every bloodstream and infected it. A stray you were, a stray who didn’t know when to keep her head down, a stray who still got back on its feet and defied everything we believed in. But at the end you..."

She leaned closer, placing her hands on the bed. "You’re still a stray..." she mumbled softly, her eyes stung with the emotions attempting to drown her. "You should have stayed one."

She leaned away. "Maybe I wouldn’t have hated you as much as I do now. Just the sight of you sickens me to the core."

"You’ve no idea about the gravity of your existence. The mere air you breathe will become a hazard, you’ll be more of a disease... you may have never sought death before but you will." She voiced a promise.

Nyssa used her thumb to wipe away the lone tear streaming down her cheek. "You never should have happened. I despise you, Isadora, and yet I give you mercy by doing this." She raised her dagger. "Say your last prayers to Lifara and greet Daudi."

Her dagger descended in speed but just when it was a few millimeters to Isadora’s head, a hand stopped her, gripping tightly in an iron hold.

Her stern eyes snapped to Ekko now suddenly beside her. She placed her other hand against his to yank it off but it felt like holding onto steel.

"Unhand me," she ordered in a low deadly tone.

"I cannot do that."

"Now!"

"Forgive me, Nyssara, but I cannot."

"You heard, didn’t you? You heard what she is!"

His fist clenched until they almost drew blood. "I did."

"Then are you defying a pact made between the ruling council, the promise we made? She’s a weakness that needs to be purged and I’m the only one sane enough to do this!"

"A weakness that was eliminated when she became a crowned warrior," he declared.

She scoffed at his words, the tension in the air dropping, but it did not lessen her bloodthirstiness. "Of course, he did all that to ensure she wasn’t, but what makes you think it changes anything? Her existence is the weakness, do you not understand me?!"

Ekko gulped, feeling the weight of her words and emotions. "We made a pact, but the master’s feelings change everything."

"Feelings?" she chuckled in a heartless sound.

"You know my point, Nyssara, take her head now and we all suffer the consequences far greater than you realize. It is too late to honor the pact."

She growled yanking away from his hold. Ekko stayed alert in case he needed to attack but Nyssa remained still, her chest rising and falling heavily, unable to steady her breathing.

"We have failed him," she mumbled faintly, glaring at Isadora’s form before she walked away.

Ekko kept his eyes on her until she exited, before shifting his attention to a sleeping Isadora.

Logi and Rav remained in the Feast Hall.

Silence passed between them, but then footsteps echoed and they both turned to Nyssa walking toward them with a dark look.

She grabbed the bottle of ale from Logi, taking a seat, before drinking.

"Now I’ve to teach you people how to fetch your own ale."

"What are we waiting for?" Nyssa voiced in a stiff tone. "Let’s honor the pact."

Rav’s heartbeat skipped a beat, his greatest fear after the revelation that had unfolded. This was it.

An unbreakable pact made between them was meant to be fulfilled, winters ago he wouldn’t have hesitated to do the right thing but now? He did.

"We can no longer honor the pact, it’s too late," Logi replied, waving his hand dismissively.

A rush of relief found Rav but that didn’t lessen his worry. Nyssa knew about the truth and he knew how she felt about Isadora in the beginning, what was stopping her from doing so much worse?

Nyssa chuckled. "You sound like Ekko, he said the exact same words"

Logi shrugged. "That’s because he’s right, and I’ll not repeat myself. The pact is void."

"Just at the moment when we should do the just thing, secure the future and you all become wusses!"

"Logi makes sense, although I don’t always agree with him on other things," Rav said. "Let us not poke the beast."

"Ah, you do too! Isadora have you wrapped around her finger after all and now Logi is her lap dog, the ruling council is just a fucking joke now."

"Leave her be, Rav, she’ll get over it," Logi said with a sigh already having a headache, his precious brain couldn’t take any more of it.

Today had been one issue to another, now he just wanted peace.

"And you knew about this the whole time, didn’t you?" she questioned. "Tinker?"

Logi shrugged in pride at the mention of his nickname. "I’m the smartest of all of you, the brain behind this magnificent court, if I didn’t, it’s a shame to my name. It cost me a hand but it was very well worth it."

"This stays with us, and it doesn’t get out of the circle," Rav said, in a serious tone. "We don’t want to cause any further disorder, we are the pillars, let us hold this through."

"Right you are, Rav!" Logi snapped his fingers. "Exactly what I wanted to say."

"I must be losing my mind because you two are getting along."

"Gods no, we’re just being reasonable."

"Whatever pleases you..." she raised her cup before taking a drink.

"Can we trust you with this Nyssa?" Rav asked.

"Is your faith in me wavering, Rav?" She rose to her feet. "I’m tired, it’s been a long day, you boys can stay and drink until your stomachs can’t take anymore."

Rav kept his eyes on Nyssa as she retreated for the night. An uneasy feeling gripping him.
