Chapter 374: Chapter 374 – No, I don’t feel so good
Three days later, Robin received a call from the hospital lab where he had submitted the hair sample. "Good day, Mr. Jewel. The DNA test results have been sent to your email."
He quickly checked the email, tears welling up in his eyes as he read the result. "99.6% match. I have a twin brother and I don’t even know his name."
Robin had always longed for a sibling, which was why he was so desperate for a child to fill that void. He was overjoyed by the DNA test result, but he knew he needed to have a conversation with his newfound twin brother.
He reached for the phone, about to call Daniel before he remembered that Daniel was still on his honeymoon and wouldn’t be back for a few days.
No matter how desperate he felt in that moment, he couldn’t bring himself to ruin Daniel’s honeymoon. As he was about to call Peter, there was a knock at the door and his bodyguard went to answer it.
"Sir, it’s your secretary," the bodyguard informed him.
Robin frowned, wondering why his relief secretary wanted to see him in person instead of using the intercom. "Find out why she’s here."
The bodyguard returned after a few seconds. "She said she wants to thank you."
"For what?" Robin asked, annoyed. But since the bodyguard was right at the door, he let down his guard and said, "Just let her in."
As the bodyguard opened the door, a smile spread across Robin’s face. "Aria, you’re back. Sorry, I thought you were the relief secretary."
Relief washed over Aria’s face as she sighed, saying, "I thought I had been replaced."
She had been terrified when the bodyguard initially refused to let her in, as such rules had never applied to her before.
She feared that Robin had taken her job away because of the stillbirth she had suffered, which was the reason he had given her husband a job.
"No, sit down. How are you? I thought you would need more time off," Robin said casually. Seeing Aria, it felt as if 50% of his burdens had been lifted.
Having worked together for so long, Aria had gained enough insight into the company’s affairs to take action without always needing Robin’s immediate approval.
"No, I’m doing very well and I have the strength to work. Mr. Jewel, thank you so much for what you did for my husband. He has been so happy," Aria said sincerely. Robin smiled and replied,
"It’s alright. Through you, he earned my trust."
Excitement tinged Aria’s voice as she relayed the news, "He showed up for work this morning after dropping me off. I was with HR when he called to inform me that he has been given an official car and house. Is that part of the CEO position?"
Unbeknownst to Aria, her husband had been promoted to CEO within the Jewel group of Companies. Even he hadn’t taken it seriously when Robin mentioned that he would be trained by the other CEO.
The role of CEO’s assistant had been enough for him, so the news and appointment letter stating that he was now employed as a CEO, along with the accompanying perks, completely blew his mind.
He couldn’t fathom how CEOs could willingly resign from such lucrative positions.
"Aria, I’m disappointed that you even have to ask that question," Robin responded, expecting her to already know.
However, realizing that her job was primarily focused on his administrative duties and appointments, he softened his tone and continued,
"But then again, you don’t work with HR, so I’ll let it slide. And yes, all CEOs are provided with a house and car, along with a driver if needed."
Aria’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she recalled the joy in her husband’s voice. She couldn’t wait to see that same joy reflected in his eyes.
"Mr. Jewel, I can’t thank you and your wife enough. You’ve brought us so much happiness," Aria expressed gratefully.
Robin shook his head, wishing he had the power to do more. He knew that a content and fulfilled staff was crucial for success.
"While that joy can never replace the loss of a child, I hope you and your husband consider trying again soon," Robin encouraged with a small smile. Aria blushed and replied, "Yes, we are considering it."
Robin was relieved that Aria was back, as he had refrained from burdening the relief staff with too much work. Most of the tasks were confidential anyway.
"Good then. If you’re in good health, take over from the relief secretary," he said, glancing at the bodyguard by the door. He added, "And Joe, Aria is allowed in my office without permission."
"Yes, sir," Joe acknowledged.
Aria smiled once again before returning to her desk. Robin went back to work, but as soon as he remembered to call Daniel, the reminder about his honeymoon crossed Robin’s mind and he decided to dial Peter’s number instead.
Peter answered on the first ring but spoke in a hurry. "Mr. Jewel, if it’s not urgent, can I call you back? I’m in the middle of something very important."
Robin noticed that Peter was breathing heavily. At first, he thought Pete was joking, but there was no sound of wind, so Robin frowned a little and asked,
"Your breath is heavy. Are you jogging?"
Peter laughed and replied, "You’ve already ruined the mood. What’s the problem?"
Robin chuckled, happy to know that Pete had moved on from Mara and was even seeing someone new. He requested,
"I’m sending you a picture, but I don’t have a name. I need his personal details. Then I’m sending a pictureless name. I need information about her as well."
Peter was about to respond when Robin added, "Also, please give me my bill."
Peter started saying something, but Robin got distracted by a call waiting. He pulled the phone away from his ear and saw that it was Sabrina calling. He quickly said,
"I will call you back."
He ended the call and answered Sabrina’s call in a tender tone, "My queen, is everything alright?"
"No, I don’t feel so good," came the response. Robin was immediately unsettled.
