Chapter 373: Chapter 373 - DNA test result
Cecilia’s face lined with a frown as confusion washed over her. She found it disrespectful for Robin to think so poorly of his mother, whom he loved dearly. She asked, her tone serious,
"How can you ask such a question?"
Robin responded with equal seriousness, "Grandma, I met a man at the party who looked so much like mom. Same green eyes and that pretty face, except, of course, he was a man and had short brown hair."
Cecilia pondered deeply and let out a sigh of relief. "It could just be a coincidence, a case of resemblance."
Robin thought the same, but he couldn’t simply brush it off. He needed to be certain that the man he saw was not his mother’s blood. "I managed to take a hair sample from him for a DNA test," he revealed.
"That’s good," Cecilia agreed, though she still felt uneasy about the whole resemblance situation.
However, Robin wanted to be absolutely sure if he was his mother’s only child, so he asked again.
"But grandma, I believe you might know something. You and mom were very close, just like you are with Sabrina."
Cecilia nodded in agreement and responded, "It’s true that your mom and I were close, but when she had you, we thought she was going insane."
Robin released a breath he didn’t realize he was holding and delved deeper into the matter.
"Grandma, please tell me everything. The man mentioned that I took something from him."
The elderly woman froze and asked, her discomfort growing, "Something like what?"
"I don’t know, but he called on the phone and faked his voice. Before that, he had sent a woman to set me up. It was a miracle that I regained Sabrina’s trust," Robin recalled bitterly.
Cecilia felt like she couldn’t keep it in any longer, as the similarities in the matter became overwhelming.
"Hmmm. We always kept this a secret because it drove your late mother crazy whenever anyone mentioned it or when she saw her previous maternity health records."
"What is it?" Robin asked curiously, hoping it wasn’t what he feared.
Cecilia revealed, "Your mother was pregnant with twins. The scan showed two boys."
Robin was in shock as Cecilia continued to explain. "On the day of your birth, your father had an accident and I had to go back and forth between your mother and father since they were both in the same hospital."
"When I returned from checking on your father, your mother was asleep. But when she woke up and saw you in your crib, she started screaming for your brother."
"You mean I have a twin brother?" Robin was taken aback. His initial suspicion was that his mother must have had a child before marrying his father, or worse, cheated on him.
The idea of having a twin brother hadn’t crossed his mind, even after seeing the man who resembled his late mother.
"We never saw him. The doctor said he died, but your mother insisted she heard his cry. It was the doctor’s word against hers. In the end, they diagnosed her with postpartum depression."
The news weighed heavily on Robin, and he buried his face in his hands. He couldn’t help but suspect that something suspicious had happened in the delivery room.
Cecilia wasn’t finished and continued to explain. "When your father recovered, he investigated and was shown the dead body of your brother, just like your mother. But she still insisted that your twin brother was alive."
Robin’s lips tightened as he struggled to believe that the man who had his eyes on his wife could be his twin brother.
"If we were twins, then why did the man I saw look like her and not me?" Robin asked, feeling helpless. He didn’t think he could go against his own twin brother.
Robin regretted not taking his life more seriously. Even with all of Zayla’s mischief, if he had been more focused and not indulged in womanizing, he might have discovered these things earlier and never divorced Sabrina.
Robin still feared losing Sabrina because they weren’t legally married.
"Well, the dead body your father saw at the time was not identical. You were fraternal twins," Cecilia revealed, confirming the possibility that the man could be Robin’s biological twin brother.
"So why didn’t anyone tell me that my twin brother had died?" he asked, disappointment evident in his voice.
"Because we wanted to spare your mother any further distress," Cecilia replied.
Robin forced a smile, concealing the pain that consumed him. It appeared that his family had a penchant for keeping secrets from him.
While he understood Sabrina’s desire for anonymity after saving his life, the fact that they hadn’t disclosed the existence of his fraternal twin brother, whether deceased or alive, didn’t sit well with him.
Unfortunately, the responsible parties were no longer alive, making it impossible for him to confront them.
"I will submit his hair sample for a DNA test tomorrow and inform you of the results. I had suspected that Mom had been unfaithful to Dad," he confessed.
Cecilia shook her head and vehemently defended their mother, stating, "Your mother would never do such a thing. She was a decent and kind-hearted woman, just like Sabrina, and your father loved her deeply."
Robin pursed his lips, deep in thought. "No wonder he mentioned that I possess things that belong to him. If he was referring to his rightful inheritance, why did he feel the need to hide? He could have been honest about it. I won’t take all the money to my grave, and even when our children are born, they will still have more than enough."
"If we decide to divide everything equally, neither us nor our children will ever lack for generations," Robin mused aloud. He didn’t believe that even Sabrina would object to sharing everything with his twin brother.
Nevertheless, another thought crossed his mind, and he inquired, "But did Mom have any close friends?"
Cecilia’s dull eyes suddenly sparked with recollection, and she revealed, "She did have a best friend, but I’m not sure what happened between them. A few days after you were born, she left the state, and I have no idea where she is now."
Robin’s curiosity intensified, sensing that this woman held more information about the mystery at hand. "Do you happen to know her name?" he asked eagerly.
"Of course. Her name is Ethel Dwayne," Cecilia disclosed, and Robin made a mental note of it. "She might have some answers. I will try to find her."
Cecilia agreed and stifled a yawn. "Alright. I should also get some sleep."
Three days later, Robin received a call from the hospital lab where he had submitted the hair sample. "Good day, Mr. Jewel. The DNA test results have been sent to your email."
